really appreciate the response. my gpa is right there but my mcat is a 28 so that's why I was wondering. Scared that below 30 will get me waitlisted especially this late in the cycle. thanks for responding and Congrats!

I have a 3.77 and a 29 on the MCAT. IU interviewed me in October and I was accepted in November. Don't lose hope! Some students that score under 30 (28-29 range) don't test well in general, but IU knows we can make great doctors. 😀 Keep your chin up!

I got the letter today!!! So Happy!!! I wish all you still waiting good luck!!! I interviewed Oct. 7 and I stay in Indy, for those interested.

Interviewed early Jan.; IS; 3.8<GPA<4.0; 30<MCAT<35

First acceptance; best of luck to everyone else waiting.

Interviewed Jan. 6; IS, GPA <3.2 (Master's GPA 3.8), MCAT 34. Many unique ECs.

Accepted!

Best of luck to everyone else! Hope to see you in the fall!

Dear IU,

Thanks for inviting me to fly up an interview with you! I very much appreciate the opportunity to have bought that plane ticket for $300, rent a car for $60, get that hotel room for $100, skip 2 days worth of school and work, and then spend only 20 minutes in front of my 2 interviewers!! I can tell you guys were REALLY excited to have me there!

I mean, 20 minutes is good right?! We were getting along so well, and you seemed so darn interested in all of my answers! Good tidings to come, I am sure!

I also want to take the time to thank you for the very dark and cold winter day and night I got to experience while up in Indy. It certainly was much colder than I expected! Brrr!

But no, seriously... IU, I really appreciate it buddy! You top my list as one of the best interview experiences EVER! Right above USF! Good job! 👍

Lol,

Dude seriously? I've never heard of an interview lasting only 20 minutes. When I went, the interviews were an hour long. What happened? Drop the n-bomb or something? lol

Got in last night!!!!!!

Congrats!

As a current IU undergrad I was wondering how much being an in-state student really affects acceptance to IU med... I see average MCAT and GPA but is this lower for in-state students if they accept them more freely?

In my opinion, being instate with decent stats (ie a min MCAT of 30, GPA 3.6) is all you need to get in so long as you can hold a decent conversation during an interview. If your stats are below that threshold, you certainly have a shot at getting in but your interview needs to be good. IU has a huge in-state mandate with regards to admissions, so that works in the favor of everyone in IN.

I had my interview yesterday (02/17) so this is hot off the presses.
.Fall 2010 students will number 280.
..Wishard is building a new hospital right beside the VA center.
...Tuition went up this year by 4% IS, 0% OOS.
....And last but not least, the AdCom meets on March 15th. If I'm not wrong, this is the last month that they conduct interviews.

Nice to see you all there and GOOD LUCK!

Do you know how IU Med look upon a withdraw from a class? I am currently in an awful religious studies class (grade distribution last semester of 2/90 A's) and I want to get out before my GPA takes a hit.

It isn't a science class but it lowers me to 13 hours so...

I'd stick with it. Withdrawals don't look good in any case.

do you mean they are meeting March 15th or sending the letters out? I thought they meant towards end of the month and sent letters out the 15th. Also, does anyone know if they meet and send out letters in April or if you don't hear this March then you probably are waitlisted or rejected?

Hahaha, my interview was 12 minutes

mine was 30 mins and he seemed rush from the beginning saying he was behind and we didn't have much time even though I was the last one... who knows what that meant

do you mean they are meeting March 15th or sending the letters out?

I guess the latter is correct.
Here's a direct quote from Renne Akins, the Associate Director of Admissions, on the issue. "..A decision could be rendered by the 15th of the following month or as late as June 1, 2010 but we cannot guarantee when you might receive a decision."

Doesn't say much, I know. 😀

My acceptance letter was sent out on 11/15, but I didn't even receive it until a week later because the USPS sucks. I live in Bloomington and still cannot understand how a letter could take a week to be delivered!

interviewed 2/17 for about 45 mins 1-on-1 with a general surgeon. really happy with how comfortable/laidback and thorough it was... aka no regrets! anxious to hear from the adcom.

(stats on mdapplicants)

I believe that this was the last day for interviews? Did they mention anything to this extent? Good luck with the process and glad to see some acceptances going out again!

I am an IS with a 29 MCAT and a 3.85 GPA. I was a language major while doing all my pre-med prep including a paper about genetic research, and HIV research in a foreign country. I interviewed in September and have heard NOTHING. People who have one point higher than me on the MCAT and a lower GPA got in a month after they interviewed. I need to call IU and start asking questions. Has this happened to anyone else?

thanks...I'm in FL..not looking good I guess, congrats tho!!

i am sure ill be in your boat. 28 mcat and 3.84 gpa instate. the way they said they review people was they rank people on mcat, gpa, and interview score and they only review so many at the top. according to my interviewer no news is good news because it means you haven't been rejected but it still means you haven't been reviewed...

he said the score was 40% mcat 40% gpa and 20% interview score. no idea if they normalize the gpa to like gpa x 10 to make it a comparable number to mcat, otherwise gpa differences barely matter

did you feel your interview went well?

I'm concerned as well...and if it helps, I am IS with a 31 MCAT and 3.7 cGPA. I interviewed in mid- November and STILL haven't heard anything either. I know its hard, but don't despair! No news is still good news right (although I have to agree the waiting game is definitely not fun)?

If it makes you feel any better I have a 27 MCAT, 4.00 GPA, Psychology Major, quite a few interesting ECs, including research which includes a grant I received for it. I am in-state. In fact I do research at IUMed in Indy. I interviewed 2/17 and I did have one of the chairs of the adcomm (no clue if thats good, bad, or indifferent). Interview lasted about 45 minutes...however, he hadn't even looked at my file. Was conversational and not too bad, some interesting ethics conversations, but I have absolutely no idea about whether or not I will get in (especially since i had no indication, since he hadnt looked at my file). I know people with good gpas and 30+MCATS that interviewed in as early as october and have still yet to hear anything...so I can honestly say who knows....

On another note, during the interview we did discuss how the class size dropped and how it would impact admissions. The numbers will apparently be coming from the satellite campuses as thats where they were doing the expansion. The actual number that they had planned to accept this year was more than the 322, but he said that 280 has been their number for a long time and thats just what it will be now, unless something changes politically.

Did we walk up to Riley together for our interviews amid the Financial Aid session?

Best of Luck!! 🙂

hmmm, was this in the afternoon? I had my interview in the science building, but I definitely chatted while on the way to Riley for the info session and tour.... Good Luck to you too!!!!!!!

For those of you who recently got accepted...

I have been reading past posts where people mentioned getting a postcard saying they were complete and under review. Did all of you who got in Jan/Feb get a postcard before your acceptance saying you were under review?

The postcard is supposed to just signify that all is well with your application and it is complete and available for review. If there is something missing or a problem with the file (I had a problem with one of my letters) the admissions committee cannot review it and a decision cannot be made. If you have not gotten a postcard, I recommend contacting the admissions office ASAP!
Best of luck 🙂

I found out today through calling that they will meet in March and April to send out letters

Hope everything was fine with your application, and definitely hoping that we get those acceptance letters!!!!!!

"A participating school has now requested that a background check be procured on you via this service, and you will soon receive an email from Certiphi Screening, Inc. that requests that you log into their online system and provide consent for this report to be procured. To ensure that you meet this requirement, please ensure that you have added [email protected] as a trusted email sender."

Anyone get this email last week but not get the follow up one from certiphi?

Hey all you accepted students, be sure to join the facebook group (Indiana University School of Medicine Class of 2014) !!!!

Good luck to all of those still waiting to hear back.

To the previous poster, I think it takes a few days, if not weeks to get a second e-mail from certiphi. good luck 🙂

Hell yea, just joined. Did you end up applying EDP Ashish? If so which campus?

In-state (but go to school down in Austin, Texas so i figure that would be some sort of good diversity?), 28 MCAT, 3.96 GPA, lots of extra-curricular activities, and worked at a surgery center full-time for a summer.....interviewed in mid-November (which I felt went well). and I still haven't heard anything either...

i feel better hearing other people are in this same boat. i never sent in my transcript from fall 09 though (it wasn't bad, but not as good as the rest of my application). would that maybe be a factor?

Post-acceptance withdraw in the mail - good luck everyone.
