If you are in the IU system, you can also check the admissions status online via OneStart... I think I've checked about 10 times today...Good Luck All!

Do you know if that is updated right away? I also have been checking that think like crazy but not sure if they will update it right away or not.

Honestly I have no idea, my guess is that it will be updated when a letter gets sent out. I know my advisor always gets a list of the students from our school who are accepted, so if I'm accepted she will pobably let me know before I find out online or in the mail. Doesn't stop checking though 😉

How are you guys checking your status online?
What is the website for that?

I can't wait to hear back. I live all the way out in California so it will probably be around the 18th or 19th by the time any snail mail reaches me.
Arrrgggh!

Cheers!
Sam

We are in the IU system meaning we go/went to undergrad/grad school at and Indiana University school. So on our student portal where we have our grades, financial stuff, and class adds and drops is a thing for pending Indiana Admissions. It just says that we are complete and under review. Check back for updates and postal mail will be sent when decision is made. I know they update at some point because it changed for some friends but I don't know if they do it right away

as retake posted, we are in the IU system. I'm not sure if you can sign up while pending an admission, but you could try. The system is iu onestart, so if you google and get to the website, you can try to see if you can sign up. The pending admissions is in the "student center". Good luck, i'd be curious to know if they allowed pending students to sign up.

Since they email rejections and snail mail acceptances shouldn't the rejections for this round have gone out already?
Does anyone know if rejections were emailed a few days ago? Do they generally come in waves just before or after the 15th?
Cheers,
Sam

How friendly is this school toward OOS applicants? I'm thinking of the next cycle.

I see 43/308 matriculated non-residents for 08-09 in the MSAR. How's my chance from California? 😀

Just to give an update: a friend of mine had an appointment with the admissions office today and he was told that they do not update the OneStart system until a couple of weeks after the initial send out of letters. So I am probably going to calm down on the checking, but I guess it is always worth a look 😉

thanks for the update. saves me some time on onestart

do you think meeting with admissions through an appointment, sending a letter of intent, updating activities would improve chances of getting in at all? I'm wondering what I can do to maximize my chances

I don't think making an appt will make a difference as far as getting in, but making an appt with the dean (Karen Smartt) will let you know where you stand as far as your application. You can make an appointment to find out what problems (if there are any) there are and what could be holding you back if you have been waiting a while. I have had several friends make these appointments and have gotten good feedback (even if it wasn't great news). I am going to wait a while since I only interviewed on 2/17/10 and this would be the first adcomm meeting that my app would be reviewed in. I will definitely be making an appt if I get a rejection, to find out what I can do to get accepted next cycle (hopefully won't be needed :xf:). Otherwise it definitely cannot hurt, I feel impatient as I would love an answer one way or the other, but I am thankful that I have not been waiting as long as some people I know, as that could be torture. So if you have been waiting a few months, make the appt and find out what she thinks could be problems with your application and GOOD LUCK, hope to hear you get an acceptance!

They are friendly, so long as your numbers are good. Because IU is the only med school in Indiana (private and public) they are supposed to give preference to in-state students. That being said, from my experience and what I can gather, they tend to be very focused on numbers/metrics (GPA and MCAT). If you have a high GPA and MCAT (probably 3.8+ and 34+) I would definitely apply. The only reason I list those numbers is because if your scores are lower, there are just too many in-state students with comparable numbers (or slightly lower numbers with in-state preference) or OOS students with great numbers. Of course, if money is no object, apply anyway. They also give special consideration to those with ties to Indiana. Of course if you have any special EC's or good research experience, those help. The MSAR data should give you an idea of how many of those OOS students that apply get interviews. Good luck! I am in undergrad in Indy and know that IU is a great school that is pretty well respected (among state instutions, that is), but I was less than pleased with the interview day. The interview was great, but the tour and other activities were pretty much useless, IMHO. Long story short, if you do interview here, don't be turned off by the tour, etc. Try to find a student to show you more.

Thanks. I definitely have the stats. My bf's home is in Indiana (he lives in Los Angeles now) but I'll concoct some story up 😀

Maybe...I go to school in Indiana about an hour from Indy so I was hoping it would come soon! 🙂 We'll see...guess we keep waiting! Best wishes!

I live down the road from the school and haven't received anything yet...I interviewed on the 17th of feb. Not sure what the hold up is.

I'm all the way out in California.
I've given it till friday until my panic sets in... 🙂
Who am I kidding, I've been panicing for months now.
Good luck everyone.
Let us know when anything arrives.

Just called. Decisions went out this month and more will go out next month

As in the 15th of next month?
I thought they were only regularly sending decisions through March and then a smattering of acceptances would follow.
Hmmmm.....

Yeah I thought the same thing but that is what the lady told me. I hope we don't have to wait another month because this wait is killing me. We will see what the mail holds tomorrow and Friday then.

Waitlisted, Interviewed on 02/17 🙁
I learned my outcome by calling the Admissions office, the Adcom met on Monday it seems.

Did you have to talk to a specific person? they gave us the impression that no decisions were released over the phone. I guess I will try calling tomorrow and see.

Wait,the adcom met on monday?
Does that mean decisions didn't go out on the 15th?
Ahhhh! The wait. I want to call, but don't want to hurt my chances.
Gersh dern it!
😀

It is better than knowing nothing!!! I interviewed 02/17 too and the wait is killing me! If I don't hear anything I will stop by the admissions office or give em a call. I am in Indy and have had no mail....argh Happy St Patties everyone!!!!! I hope we all get good letters tomorrow!!!!

Checked the mail today and nothing.... my mail has already been delivered and nothing from IUMed was there. This wait is killing me! I guess if I don't get anything tomorrow, I will call or stop by next week. Good Luck all!

Same here...mail was just dropped off and nothing. If nothing tomorrow I will also be tempted to call. No one has spoken up about receiving anything, so they must be delayed with their decisions. I literally live 15 minutes up Illinois and can't imagine the mail taking this long. Everytime I check my mail box and nothing in it is marked IU I die a little inside...

So guys I don't know if this is good news or not but I called today and explained to the lady that I had an interview coming up and depending on how things went there I may not pay for an extra trip and if she could tell me if a decision had been made on my file. She checked and said that no they had not made one yet and my file was still under review. I interviewed 2/17 so for those of us in that group some of us may not hear anything till next months is what she told me. Just thought I would share.

I'm in the 2/17 group too...may well be the same issue... ugh this waiting is NUTS! I know of some 2/17 people who have been told they are on the wait list, but I havent heard about anyone getting a decision yet this month...we will just have to wait and see...

I just called today and the admin office person was super nice and let me know that my file was not reviewed yet (interviewed early Jan.). She said another round decisions was going out the 15th of April meeting.

Yeah I felt the same way too. I believe her name was Sara. probably the nicest admissions person I have talked to ever. I just hope I can find out soon. Another 4 weeks? I guess I just need to forget about this and whatever happens happens.....

hey all,

ill be starting at iupui for dentistry this summer/fall, i was just wondering if anyone was looking for a roommate, PM me.

thanks

So I didn't get anything in the mail today and I ended up calling the admissions office. My file is still under consideration and another round of acceptances will go out the 15th of April. I interviewed 2/17 just to let you all know! Good Luck everyone!

How are you all getting them to tell you things?! I called the office and they were very firm and wouldn't tell me anything at all. 🙁

I just called the admissions line and asked if it was possible to find out the status of my application and gave my name. She then asked me to confirm with my AMCAS id or SSN, she then told me my file was still under consideration. I thanked her and that was it. How are you approaching the conversation? Sarah is extremely nice and helpful, I have dealt with her a few times and she really is great and will give you any information that she can.

I interviewed on 2/17 and just got my acceptance in the mail today! I'm an Ohio resident, but I go to college in Indiana. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear!

Congrats!!! Good to hear that someone got a letter 🙂

Hmm, I thought I approached the conversation in much the same way. I definitely didn't talk to a Sarah though. Maybe I'll try back later with a bit more luck. 😛

Congratulations!
I'm surprised it took so long to reach Ohio. Was it postmarked the 15th?

Oh, could you give stats? Don't worry about it, if you feel uncomfortable.

I can't answer on the postmark...I haven't seen the letter! I'm at Taylor University in Upland, IN and the letter went home to Ohio. So my mom called me when it came today. 🙂 Sorry about that!

My stats are 31 S (13 V, 9 P, 9 B), 3.98 GPA, and experiences and activites include things like two medical missions trips overseas, over 100 hours of shadowing, volunteering in a hospital, working in assisted living, team captain of varsity cross country and track teams in college, etc.

So I guess letters have gone out, just a little late. Wishing everyone the best!

Hope that any phone call you make goes better and perhaps you can find out more information. Maybe they won't tell you anything because an acceptance letter is in the mail for you? 😳
..

I also talked to Sarah and she was very helpful. I interviewed on 2/17 and also am still up for review. I wondered if they are really backed up, being that it's so near the end of the cycle. Congrats Maverick! We have nearly identical stats, so hopefully that's good news. I also had a friend at school that intervied on 2/10 that got accepted yesterday (I think she was a 31, 3.7-3.9 with lots of research). I don't think I can wait any longer!

Haha, this process is definitely not for the impatient. With IU you also have to rank campus preferences, does anyone know when they assign these?

They just sent out an email with a form for ranking campus preferences. It says assignments will be made in late April/May. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for April! 🙂

Does Indy not email rejections post interview until June or is that an ongoing process as well?
Does anybody know of someone who was rejected post-interview?
