Hi,
About the campus rankings, is anybody choosing Bloomington as their first choice?

I think a lot of people will select various regional campuses as their first choice. Some people want to be closer to home, prefer a certain city, or think one of the academic programs at a regional campus is a better fit for their learning style. Smaller class sizes definitely make the regional campuses more appealing. 😉

In my experience, the majority of people choose Indianapolis for their first choice (I did back when I completed this since I was from a distant state and didn't know Indiana at all). I got placed at a satellite that I ranked at least 5th or lower, and most of those in my satellite class are in the same boat. It worked out though as our class here has been consistently strong, but there are downsides (much more difficult to do research, etc.).

I'm surprised that you didn't get one of your top three choices! 🙁 Most of my IUSM friends graduated from IU Bloomington for undergrad and wanted to continue with medical school in Bloomington. I'm fairly certain they selected Bloomington as their number one choice and were awarded the Bloomington campus. I have a bad sample size I suppose! 😀

Well, you have a better chance of getting your top choice if it's a satellite campus. However, most everyone ranks Indianapolis and Bloomington at the top (although I prefer our curriculum to Bloomington's, which I dislike), so for those, it's a different story.

Does IU even give out waitlists or rejections? It seems like they just keep everybody waiting and let u know if u get in or not by june...

I know people who have been put on the waitlist, I haven't heard about a rejection post interview yet. I know of people who didn't get the interview, but nothing about post interview.

Ok thanks. Does anyone know what the interview class size was this year? I see a lot of 2/7 interviewers on here still waiting so if it makes u feel any better, I interviewed 1/6 and still haven't heard anything yet. And what is the date that they require students who have been accepted to confirm or defer?

Me neither. I haven't interviewed since early November and have heard nothing. Tis but a distant memory. I don't really want to play this waiting game anymore.

interviewed 11/18....still nothing. i feel better knowing other people are in the same boat haha.

I was wondering, is it better to be waitlisted than to not hear anything back by now? I interviewed in Jan but I still don't know anything. For everyone that hasn't heard back yet, is our best response right now that we've been waitlisted?

Better not to have heard anything. There's a decent chance it means you haven't been presented to the committee yet.

I know some people on here wanted to know what happened if you were rejected, and I found out through a friend today that it is an e-mail. So, if you get snail mail from IU=good and e-mail=bad lol

That's what I keep hearing, but has anybody, or do u all know anybody that has gotten the infamous rejection email?

Yes, my friend got the rejection e-mail 🙁
Ok. Yikes, so I guess when they say "no news is good news" they really mean it. I thought they would wait till the end of the whole admissions season b4 they started axing people, since I haven't really heard of anybody being rejected after an interview

so no one's really posted in a while...

is everyone nervous/anxious to hear back in the april round of decisions? has anyone contacted his/her interviewer(s) and/or sent an update/letter of interest?

i'm really hoping things work out for IU! i'm pretty sure i'd pick the muncie campus since that's where i live now. anyone else in the same boat?

I've been putting it off and keeping my options open, but I just gave up my seat at IU. Hopefully one of you gets it! Good luck.

I've just decided to randomly check the mail next week and not obsess about it. all it will do is cause a bunch of stress and anxiety every day waiting for the mail and checking here to see if people got letters. I guess i just figure I'll be pleasantly surprised if anything ever comes for me. however, my hopes aren't high

everyone who got accepted non edp please post your campus assignments, along with how you ranked them, when you hear. Someone told me they planned to tell you by about early april? 🙄

If I recall correctly, the email containing the campus preference questionaire said that assignments won't be made until the latter part of April, which I would assume means next week at the very earliest.

An M2 told me that he didn't get his campus assignment until late in June, even when he was expecting his assignment late in April 👎 Although correspondence seems to be a lot more fluid this year than in previous years. Anyone know the criteria for how they assign the campuses? I suppose they weigh your reasons based upon your additional essay that state your reasons. It would be a lot nicer to choose your campus based upon a first-come, first serve basis..=P

Does the adcom meet tomorrow or do they send out acceptances tomorrow or is it both the adcom meets in the morning and they send out letters in the afternoon?

If I remember correctly it was pretty late when I got mine. As for the campus assignment, good luck figuring that out, I don't even remember where I ranked the place I ended up, but it was below number 5. Then there is the mystery of how they work third-year rotations.

It would be pretty lame for them not to give out assignments before the May 15th decision date.
Could you tell me more about the 3rd year rotations (how many "away" rotations you have to do, how long they are, where they are, etc)?

I'll be absolutely livid if I don't receive my campus assignment until the end of June. I can't imagine becoming familiar with a city, finding an apartment, and moving in that amount of time. Hopefully, the class of 2014 will be treated with more consideration than previous years! :xf:

has anybody been waitlisted yet by IUSM? or do they only waitlist ppl at the end of the cycle?

You don't really do away rotations third year (although I suppose you could do a non-clinical (i.e. research one) but most people do away rotations fourth year before they send out the ERAS. You basically rank 12 choices of your sequence for third year. There are three "blocks" that everyone takes, but does so in different orders (Psyc/Neuro/IM; Surg/Surgical subspecialty/Anesthesia/OB-GYN; and Fam/Peds/Vacation or Elective), and they assign you one order. Then you pick locations, etc. Individuals parts are somewhat different in length but the blocks work out to be the same length.

I called today and asked if they could tell me about my application status (whether or not I'd been waitlisted or rejected) and they said they couldn't give that information out on the phone.

I would say try talking to Sara..I just called and she told me that I had a letter on the way.

So my question is are all rejections done via e-mail?

If it helps any, I know of a couple of rejections that came via email, so possibly looks good! I just tried calling and I didn't get Sarah so no info 🙁

that sounds like good news so far... i'd really like to know if everyone who interviewed 2/17 will be hearing in this round of decisions, but i guess we'll see! all we can do is wait and [compulsively] check our mailboxes/SDN! 🙂

I know of one person who interviewed on 2/17 who got their acceptance letter last month. Me and my buddy are still waiting. 🙁

Well a very good friend of mine got an acceptance in the mail today, I am very happy for him. I haven't received anything at all yet, not sure if I will be getting anything. My friend and I are both in town in Indy. Anyway just figured I'd let you all know that there is good news out there! Good Luck everyone!

Oh the wait.
Can you post your mate's stats?

Aoberlin, are you OOS? Mind sharing your stats since a letter is on the way? Also, let us know when it arrives. I'm all the way out in California, so I'm wondering what the travel time is.

A long-time SDN lurker here. I just got my acceptance in the mail today! Can't wait to meet everyone else! And good luck to those still waiting.

Lol I interviewed waaaaaaaay back before thanksgiving and havent even heard anything from this school. Also, the interviewer talked on his cell phone in the middle of our interview. This place is pathetic. I wouldn't go here even if this would have been my only acceptance.

I called today and I am "still under consideration"... No idea what it means besides that it isn't no, yes, or waitlist. I've made an appointment with Karen Smartt to figure out what to do. Good luck everybody, I hope there is some good news!

i also called today asking if they could tell me if i'd been reviewed yet or if i wouldn't hear anything until may, and i was told i (like everyone else) would get a decision by june 1st. i didn't even give my name...

let us know if the appt with karen smart is successful in helping you know where you stand. good luck everyone!

Did you e-mail Karen or did someone make the appointment with you over the phone? I also have yet to receive anything and was really hoping to hear back (I interviewed in February). I can't imaging not having heard back yet after interviewing last winter/fall. They make it really tough on us if we don't hear back until June 1st, considering the applications for the next cycle open up then, as well. Still, no news is good news.

I made the appointment over the phone when I called to find out my status. Also just FYI for everyone who is still waiting, apparently now we will no longer be reviewed by the adcomm, it goes down now to a 3 person Executive committee to make the decisions... not sure quite how I feel about that. Otherwise, best of luck, and if the nerves are killing you, call the office and see what you can find out!

Hey guys--hopefully this will ease the nerves of some of the people that feel like they have been waiting forever, but I just got my acceptance on April 16th...the first thing i've heard from the school since my interview on November 17th, 2009...!

28Q MCAT, 3.96 GPA, in-state (went to undergrad in Texas). So, for the people who interviewed in like Jan/Feb that still haven't heard and are starting to lose hope... do not despair!

I want to wish everyone still waiting for a response good luck. I know that this is an emotionally difficult time and I hope we can all look back as physicians and laugh. :luck:

On another note, I believe it is officially the "latter part of April." Hopefully, campus assignments will start to be sent out soon! :xf:

Were your wait-listed friends informed of their status via e-mail or regular mail? I know that acceptances are sent by mail, and I'm pretty sure that rejections are sent by e-mail (correct me if I'm wrong on this one). But I haven't heard anything definitive about how IUSM informs this year's wait-listed applicants. Thank you!!!

The only way I know of has been by people calling the admissions office, otherwise I have no idea how you can be notified that you are on the wait-list. Not sure if there is anyone on here that might be able to answer that question better.

Received OOS acceptance in the mail today. Somewhat dismayed by, quote, "The Admissions Office will email campus preference questionnaires in about week". I'm assuming it's "about a week".

Good luck to everyone else still waiting for an acceptance, hope to see you next year!
