Just received a waitlist notification by mail...bummer. The letter said the class was already full. I think I'm going to try and make an appointment, as well. The letter says about half of the hundred or so people on the alternate list last year got in, but the numbers vary highly from year to year. Anybody else heard anything?

Well at least you got a decision! That kinda bothers me that i have no decision and they are telling people that the class if full... I don't know what to think at all about that....

I haven't heard anything yet and am still waiting. Why are they telling some people the class is full and not telling others anything at all?! I am so confused....

I agree. They way they send out decisions is really confusing. I applied pretty late, but still had a solid application (30+, 3.9+) with research, shadowing, yada yada yada (if you like Seinfeld) and this was the first I had heard from IU since my interview, while several others I go to school with/have talked to have gotten in with comparable or lesser numbers (I heard they focus pretty heavily on metrics). I usually interview well, so I really just want to know how I can improve my application or what I did wrong. But the fact that some people haven't heard anything (that interviewed last year) and some have been waitlisted and told the class is full...I just don't get it. I hate that this was dragged out because now we are all behind in the job search, applications for next year, etc.

I'm only replying to this because I like your name. I think you have a great great chance at coming off the waitlist, probably sooner rather than later (ie peri-May 15) because the IUSM list moves a lot because its a state school. You would probably be in already if you applied earlier. However, I encourage you to remain as anonymous as possible because there's not too many people applying as late as you did with your stats on the waitlist at a particular school (maybe there's only one and you blew your cover already). I guarantee someone from Admissions is reading this, so don't let SDN be a liability on your app.

Best of luck.

Is anonymity really so important?
As long as you maintain a polite demeanor, surely asking questions and encouraging your fellow students isn't viewed as a detriment.
Is it?

Cheers,
Sam

If you're a student currently unaccepted at School X, I don't see how letting School X see you on their SDN thread helps in any way. I'm not positive it hurts, but I know it doesn't help. I wasn't criticizing Jimmy for anything he had already posted, I just didn't want to see him give out more information that could tell an AdCom who he was if he wasn't aware someone was listening in. I don't see a problem with being non-anonymous if you're already accepted/content with your app cycle, but I would be careful up to that point.

i just called to confirm IU had received/processed my letter of interest/intent (yes, both). i also asked if decisions are still only sent out monthly on the 15th and was told it could be at any time before june 1st, with acceptances and waitlist notifications arriving by regular mail and "some rejection notifications [being] sent by email". hope this helps!

i'm really excited about the prospect of staying in-state and attending IU! i hope things work out for those of us for whom IU is our #1

Thanks catalase. I am trying to remain anonymous (I figured most of what I said almost everyone has on their application and my stats have lots of variability). I have only been positive and am sure most schools do read these posts. Just like everyone else I like to have an idea of what's going on at the school(s) I applied to. I never divulged my undergrad institution (it's not in Indy) so at a school the size of IU's I hope they couldn't pinpoint me, if, in fact, I'm doing something wrong. I hope there is quite a bit of movement on the waitlist, but I wonder if the reduction in the number of spots (from 300+ to 280) will change this at all?

Did anyone else receive their campus assignment? I'll be at Indy, which makes me happy.

I haven't even gotten my acceptance mail packet, and I got campus assignment and technical standards questionnaire. Maybe because I live in South Korea... Anyway, if I did really get accepted, I think I want to go to either Bloomington or Indy... I hear int'l students usually get assigned to Indianapolis anyway.

I received my assignment early yesterday evening via email. Interviewed in January.

Still no assignment. Got my acceptance letter in Early January and sent in my rankings the week after I received the survey. Beginning to wonder if they got my rankings. I even had medical reasons behind the location I chose. Anyone know who I should contact about that? I don't want to pester them during this busy time.

Probably Renee Akins (she recently emailed us about the assignments). Good luck!

got my big, fat envelope (ok, maybe not fat) today... quite happy right now...

Congratulation GTE! IU is an awesome school, they put out some impressive residencies. are you going to go to this school? I am waiting to hear back, but I have high hopes.

Thanks! I'm going to IU unless I get accepted at UMN-Twin Cities. They are making a decision on my file this Wed... not that nervous, though. Probably because I already have one solid option in the bag😛

Good luck to you!

Just got assigned to Bloomington. It was my number 2 choice, but that's ok. 😎

I got Evansville, like my 5th choice, but that won't work for me. Does anyone know how to appeal the campus assignments? I have a serious heart condition and have frequent doctor's appointments. I'd be missing days of classes to go to doctor's appointments in Indianapolis because Evansville is out of my insurance network and they will only pay for emergency care.

I don't think we are able to appeal assignments. Sorry for your luck! 🙁

I don't know how much it helps, but you are eligible for health coverage as a student and I believe you are actually required to purchase it if you will not have comparable coverage in your student location otherwise. Hope you find a solution that works for you. I know they are willing to consider family situations in making assignments so hopefully a medical concern would also qualify.

Sheesh, I certainly hope they read people's preference explanations before assigning campuses. Yours seems like a seriously bigger deal than what most other people's reasons might be, so I don't understand why you didn't get your choice. I would still write/call them and tell them that your choice was based on a very good reason.

(They might just ask you to buy better health insurance, but I think it's still worth a try.)

I got my third campus choice, but I have heard they do not allow appeals since there are so many students that they would have to accommodate.

See health insurance isn't the issue. My mother works at the hospital and I get great health coverage within her network, 140,000 dollar open heart surgery cost us 100 dollar co-pay (I still have two more years under coverage). I'm more concerned about my physicians. I see a specialist who knows not only my medical history since diagnosis, but also the implications of my special condition. The cardiologist I see in Evansville where I do my undergrad is clueless and expensive.

Update: I called and they said I can appeal based on my medical condition and the costs of care in two locations.

Has anyone received the Financial Aid Notification by snail mail yet? I got an email Friday saying they would be sent out by Monday, and here I am in state Sunday with no packet yet. Although I have looked at it online.

Yeah my folks got mine at home address on Friday. It basically just says what onestart says in paper form.

Does anyone know when the latest we will figure out campus assignments will be? From reading this board, it seems like people have already received theirs but I have not heard anything yet...

I would think that a large wave of assignments would go out before May 15, because that's the deadline for those who have multiple accepts to choose a school. If you have more than one school and need to make a decision, I would strongly encourage calling them and telling them that you would like to know where you'll be assigned so you can make a more informed decision (such a request is more than reasonable). If you do not have more than one acceptance, I guess you'll just have to wait. Of course, I don't know for sure that you'll be assigned before May 15.

I withdrew from IU, good luck to those of you still waiting =). This should also open up a spot at the Indy campus, as well as a small amount of scholarship money (assuming they re-award).

Just got my campus assignment, Indy main campus. 😀

Which is good, I'd hate having to move after Year 2.

Good luck to everyone still waiting for their campus assignments.

EDIT: Thanks, shayk? 😀

LOL I doubt the turnaround time is quite that quick... for some reason I don't think they're that efficient.

Congrats on the Indy campus guys! What did you put on your rankings? I got waitlisted for Indy after I appealled my placement at Evansville. Kind of hope a spot opens up soon, so I know one way or another where I'll be at.

I just got Indy assignment as well... I had Indy and Bloomington as my first two choices.

1 - Indy
2 - W Lafayette
3 - Bloomington
4 - South Bend
5 - 9 can't remember... 😛

Hey guys! I've been looking for some IUSM gear, but I haven't really been able to find any... 🙁 I found a website where I've created some cool shirts and stuff. If you're looking for some IUSM gear, check it out at:

I really hope everyone gets their assignments soon! :luck:

Surely every med school has a bookstore in which they sell overpriced gear...? 😕

(I'm just assuming though...)

Just got my campus assignment today. Going to Indy, first choice OOS.
Look forward to meeting all of you and good luck to all of you still waiting

Congrats to those already in...must admit I am jealous! 🙂 interviewed in Nov and still waiting... fingers crossed for good news soon

I received an envelope from IU today. I am on the alternate list. Anyone else get these letters today? I love IU. I just HATE that they waited so long to give me a decision. Good luck to everyone!

any insightful information contained within the waitlist letter? i.e. does it say explicitly that the class is full, how many individuals IU typically waitlists, or if/how the waitlist is ranked? i haven't heard anything back post-interview, so i'm just trying to gauge my chances from here. thanks!

I got my letter saying I was on the alternate list recently. I interviewed in November. The letter basically said the class was full, approximately 100 people are on the list, typically around half are accepted off the list (but this varies year to year), and the list is not ranked. I guess they sift through everyone when spaces open and decide. I'm trying to stay hopeful though!

I got my wait-list letter today. I already signed up for the next MCAT😛
