Hey guys,

I think interview invites come through snail mail....or atleast they did last year and I did not recieve an email, and I do think they interview SDA first and then non-SDA since they are an SDA school.

Excellent, gives me time to finish reading the Good Book. Is reading the Old Testament necessary for admittance or can I just start with Matthew?

I received this email last week.

Did anyone else get such an email? Does this mean I'm likely to get an interview?

If you read past posts, you'll see that several people received the email -- even people who haven't completed their secondary. So consensus is that it doesn't mean anything.

I officially received an interview invite for October 20. I am an SDA, so I'm guessing that other interview invites will follow shortly after the above date. I'm excited that we are finally getting the ball rolling here! 🙂

Nice congrats!! Is it true Loma Linda sends interview invites by snail mail? Or did you get it via email?

This school's invite was unique in that I got an email invite, and then I was able to select my own time slot from a list of available choices over a three day period. I wonder if any other schools do it this way too...

Congrats on the invite! I am SDA too; however, I have not received an invite. Hopefully one comes:xf: I have been out of school for awhile (WWC graduate), and I was wondering if the interview happened to be scheduled at your college or are you flying to LLU. I know that they send interviewers to the SDA colleges.

I guess Dr. Nyirady is flying out here to Michigan, but I've heard that LLU does it both ways. This certainly will be nice on my traveling expenses! 👍

Nice, being an SDA premed at an Adventist college really has its perks with LLUSOM. Hmmm how about being an SDA premed nearby LLU... I only live 15 min away from LLU, I wonder if Dr. Nyirady would be willing to drive to my house to interview me . Maybe enticing him with a vegan cheesecake will do the trick. Lol jk.

LOL! Home visits would be nice. I am a graduate of a SDA school, and I had not received an interview yet. I emailed and asked if I were to recieve an interview would it be possible for an interview at my old school (WWC). I now have an interview setup with Dr. Nyirady for this coming Wednesday🙂. YIKES!

when were you guys complete? and did any non-SDA get an interview here yet?!

I was complete on August 11. I wouldn't worry too much though as Loma Linda's interview policy is apparently very unique.

Come on I'd give anything for an interview here, even up to half my kingdom!!!

Finally complete! (I know it's late) still no non-SDA interviews? I'm really looking at this school. I feel like their mission matches me perfectly.

Well tomorrow's the interview... I think I'm going to wear my maroon shirt & tie with my navy suit. I really hope I don't slip up and say something completely *****ic without thinking about it! :xf:

Good luck😉 Dr. Nyirady is very nice. Make sure you go through your transcripts and if there are any semesters you did not do as good as other semesters or low grades you can explain why. For example, I got a C in a class and he questioned why. I had a friend interview with him a previous year, and she had a B in organic chemistry: he asked why. I explained that it was not a strong subject for me, and I retook the class and improved.

Most of the inteviews at SDA college are get to know you interviews. For me there was no ethical, current events, or health-care questions; however, that is not to say that others will not get those questions.

GOOD LUCK!

I was complete sometime around August 7th. I think they interview individuals that are not at SDA schools later. Since I had gone to an SDA college, I asked if I could interview there. It was a lot cheaper than going to Loma Linda.

Thanks for the input! Did Nyirady ask you anything about research? I think I'm going to review my research project so I can talk about it if the need arises...

Most of my interview was explaining why I dropped out of dental school, and medical school is where I should be. Therefore, I had less time for other questions. We did not talk about my research. I was somewhat disappointed about that because I have a Master's in Biology. I even brought my thesis to the interview. I thought that would be my strong point; however, no questions. I did give him a copy of a published paper with my name on it, and he put it in my file. I talked to some of my professors, and they said that LLU does not emphasize research. Thus, it does not come up often in LLU interviews at SDA schools. However, it would not hurt to skim your research, but do not expect to go into detail. He does have a PhD in microbiology.

If you had to fill out a pre-interview sheet, he probable will look to see if you have enough medical experience. Also, have an answer for the ubiquitous question of what are your strengths and weaknesses. As mentioned before, do not forget to review your transcripts.

Just a side note LLU stats have risen to an average of 10P, 10V and 10B on the MCAT. I forgot what their GPA is but it is higher than what I thought it was.

In addition, for the interviews at LLU I do not think you have the same interviewer. Thus, expect the focus of the interview to probable be different. He said something about the interviewers to be physicians.

Does anyone know if loma linda has rolling admissions?

From my understanding, Dr. Nyirady said that they start looking at applicants in December. Those applicants will be highly competitive; thus, high states and good extracurricular. So there will be a wave of acceptance in December from that group. Then in January/February they will have a another round of applicants with similar stats and degree of competiveness. A wave of acceptance will be handed out to that group.

Then so forth.

Are those dates just for SDA or everyone?

So I'm pretty happy with my interview today. 🙂 Overall it was a really low stress environment and Dr. Nyirady was really easy-going. We talked about the stereotypical med school interview topics: Academic numbers, explaining X, Y, and Z on my application, my healthcare experience, etc. Research barely came up as a topic. The real fun began when he started throwing ethical situations at me and responded to how I would react in those instances. But I feel he was pretty happy with me and now I guess it's time to play the waiting game! :xf:

I did ask about rolling admissions, and yes they start rolling admissions in December, then their committee meets once a month until April. Acceptances start regardless of religious preference in December, but they do give a slight preference to SDA's, so the majority of acceptees will be SDA's at first.

I'm glad your interview went well! Thanks for the feedback! Is Dr. Nyirady the only one that does the interviews or are there others?

There are others if you go to LLU for the interview, but because Dr. Nyirady came to my university, it was only him.

I got an interview invite (my first one)! Got it via snail mail, dated 10/20. I'm SDA but went to a public univ. I still have to call them to schedule a date. But I'll do it tomorrow morning; I'm too excited to call

I was complete on 09/30.

Aw poo. That's past my complete date. Congrats on your interview though! Keep us posted on how it goes. 🙂

This school seriously needs to interview me though. I hope for their sake that they realize this soon.

And OneMCAT -- I always see you posting in the threads that I'm freaking out over too. Are you a CA resident?
