Anytime a school asks why school X, leaving it blank is a very bad idea imo. I mean you are basically saying i dont have the time or effort to write a paragraph as to why I am going to want to attend here. And if you have nothing to say but BS, why are you applying in the 1st place? Lizzy commented on this a while back she basically said if you fill out an optional essay half ass, why do it at all, and if you want to leave it blank why bother even turning it in?

I agree, but why can't they just say "Required" , if it's so important?

location alone (5th ave manhattan) is worth a two hundred word essay

how optional is the second essay?
I didn't even realize it was optional. Never leave a question like that blank - any chance you can get to explain why you really want to go to their school (which you should, if you're applying there) is golden. The only questions I see myself leaving blank are the "Is there anything else you want us to know that hasn't been covered?" types.

Can the LOR requirements be edited in?

I just realized that I made a slight grammar mistake in the FIRST sentence of my second essay. FML.

Asking again just in case anyone has more info...

"Once we have received your completed supplemental application and your letters of recommendation (either the committee packet from your Pre-Med Advisory Committee, or one letter from a science faculty member and one letter from a non-science faculty member) your application is considered complete."

Are we really only supposed to submit two letters of rec? 😕 Will they take more?

They didn't complain when I sent my standard 4 letters.

did anyone actually mail their LOR to mount sinai? I know someone mentioned this earlier but i just want to confirm that the direction on the email about mailing in LOR is a mistake, right?

So don't know if this was mentioned before but I emailed about my app status and they said to call them on Mon or Wed between 2 and 4 for statuses

not all at once now 😀

it isn't on the part of 5th avenue that's fancy. it's at the bottom of spanish harlem. i love it up there, but you should know what you're getting into 😎

that was in the email they sent confirming receipt of the secondary.

oh haha... I'm quite a tool 😀

Hey guys
I submitted my amcas on june 2nd and have had all other secondary's flooding in, but no contact from Mount sinai-- does this mean that they already screened me out of the candidate pool? no one else seems to have any concern...

They don't screen.

What size is the photo that you guys uploaded? Does it change the dimensions automatically?

is there a status check page for sinai??

thats awful...
they probably dont email you when youre complete either right?
thanks though for the help

It's actually not as bad as being shot in the head. It took me like two minutes because that's what everyone is calling about right now.

they were very nice on the phone

the lady said I was complete and under review!:scared:

Anyone know how big the photo should be? I wanna submit today!

I feel pretty bad for whoever has to answer the phone when thousands of applicants call to check their app status every Mon and Wed. 😛

Would doing an unpaid summer internship for a doctor at Mount Sinai count as being an employee at Mount Sinai? I had to go through the volunteer office and get a security badge and all of that but I don't know if this would count.

hey are there any second time applicants applying? im not sure how i should "explain" having applied to other schools in the past. anyone have any thoughts?

it asks you to list the schools you applied to in the past. that is what i did. honesty is always best and mssm is such top school so i doubt they'll even care what you write.

Awesome name and avatar! Go Giants!

(btw) i mustve just completely missed that it asked to list them. that would make sense. i was worried for a second that id have to actually write something.

SWEET! He's 1 inning away from a shutout!

haha he's done. he's already changed shirts and wilson is warming up. hopefully he doesn't blow a save. his era is down to 2.18... hes on my fantasy team in a keeper league and im rooting for a sub-2 era this year.

Lincecum is the best pitcher in MLB hands down. He'll win the Cy Young.👍

I mainly wrote about what I've done since then (i.e. completed my post-bacc prgm) and included some info about a "unique" circumstance influencing my decision to apply last year, when I should have just waited a yeah. Ah well, you live and you learn...

I paid my secondary fee but was unable to submit my app. Other people are having this problem too so if you run into this problem contact the admissions office and they'll tell you what to do.

Hello all,

My name is Pranav and I will be doing research at the Mount Sinai
Icahn research institute for about 2 years. I graduated from the University of
Pennsylvania in 2008 and want to pursue medicine in the future. I am
22 years old, responsible and laid back.

For those who are coming to mt. sinai as a medical student or who are currently at the school, I am currently looking for housing near the campus. If you're interested in finding a place, please let me know asap. I currently live in Philadelphia but plan to start researching at Mt. Sinai starting mid-late August. email: [email protected]

thanks!

Sorry, Blue, I disagree.

Halladay > Lincecum at this exact moment. Halladay faces a DH every outing.

Lincecum will surpass him in the near future though.

anyone else having problem submitting the payment? it keeps telling me the CVV code is wrong..

Halladay ERA 2.75 and only 134 K's compared to Lincecum's 2.18 and MLB leading 191 K's. More importantly, Lincecum is keeping the Giants in the NL Wild Card race, while Blue Jays are pretty much out in the AL at this point.

Yeah, but part of what I'm saying is that Halladay pitches in the AL, so it makes some amount of sense that his ERA is higher.

Halladay finishes a game better than anyone in baseball though (led majors in complete games last two seasons, and is currently leading again this year).

Once Lincecum learns how to economize pitches after the 6th inning, so that he can put games away and keep them out of the bullpen's hands, he'll transcend into a very elite group...

And don't try to pin the fact that the Giants are still in the wild-card race solely on Timmy--Matt Cain has also won 12 games and has almost been just as much of a stud 🙂

So, after wondering why I hadn't received the complete email, I called them.

They informed me that I'm missing the non-science letter of recommendation.

"Didn't you get that letter from my anthropology professor?"

"Oh, yes, we have that. But we consider anthropology to be a science at Mt. Sinai."

😕

Are we supposed to get a "complete email"? or just one that confirms that we have sent the supplemental in?

My school does committee cover letters in addition to the three LORs i had in the packet (research PI, 2 science). Should I check if this fulfills their requirement?

1. you have to call them to check on application status-- the number is 212-241-6696 and you can only call monday or wednesday from 2-4 to check your status.

2. usually the committee letter/packet trumps all other requirements. but what you described should be fine either way.

will call on monday-thanks for the response dw

(I currently work here). I believe if they give you a life number (# used as identification for all employees) then you would be considered an employee and can put the life # on the spot of the secondary where they ask for it.
