Very quite here. All interview invites gone out. Interviews over. So I guess it'll either blow-up if there's a new wave of acceptances or on March 1st when we all find out.

I am interested to see the possible effect of the new dorming situation (once it comes to fruition for sure) on how many accepted students go to NYU...Rubin was about the only NYU related thing that I thought was sub par...The rest of the school is amazing in terms of education/clinical training/location/research

anyone at the school now-if you hear anything, let us know!

wait are they planning on renovating the dorms?? where did you hear this? and when are they planning on doing this?? yeah the dorms were very mediocre and dirty..

has anyone received post-interview WL or reject notices?

i interviewed 12/4 and haven't heard anything. i called the admissions office and asked them if its safe to assume that i've been waitlisted or rejected since i've yet to hear anything. the representative said, "it's not safe to assume anything...we are rolling."

mergh ugh bahh! what's the likelihood they will still give out acceptances in march?

just shoot me, put me out of my misery, nyu!

The likelihood is probably close to 100% unless they do the mass final decisions on the last couple days of February. They seem to do a lot of waitlists and rejects then too.

Guess I'll try this again...anyone from the final two interview weeks (01/19 - 01/29) hear anything yet (besides today's interview survey email)? I assume that the acceptances around Feb 1 and 2 were too soon for any of us late, late interviewees to have heard positive news, but you never know.

The school is planning on knocking down Rubin to make way for a new neuroscience building. So starting next year, the primary med student dorm will be on 26th st and 1st ave. It's currently is an undergrad dorm, it's all 2-person apartments, and the top floors have gorgeous views of the empire state and chrysler buildings or downtown. This isn't set in stone, but it's looking very likely.

And in other unconfirmed news, looks like second look will be Friday, April 23 (with activities Thursday night too). This isn't official, so don't book your plane ticket or start calling the admissions office yet or anything, but keep it in mind. If you're debating which school to go to, I highly recommend coming. It definitely gives you a much better feel for the school, the students and the area than interview day did.

Congrats to those of you accepted recently!

So I'm going to just assume I've been silently rejected, since the interview season is over 🙁

My friend is currently an undergraduate RA at this dorm and he told me that the deal is most likely happening 🙂🙂🙂. I second ElegantWeapon, this was really the only thing that made me question the idea of attending NYU but now I feel this: 😀😀😍😀😀. It's located by Bellevue hospital so it's nice to walk a couple blocks every morning..

From what I remember as an undergraduate, the 26th street apartment was considered a lot worse than the other nyu undergraduate apartments. Part of this was because of its distance from the downtown undergraduate campus and the small number of undergraduates housing there, but it was also because the rooms were a lot smaller than those in the other nyu apartments. That being said, the 26th street apartments are a lot better than Rubin. However, I think the best bet is to rent an apartment with fellow classmates.

Though I really wish NYU let medical students reside in its top apartments like The Palladium, University Hall, Carlyle Court and of course the best of them all, Gramercy Green. You even get free HBO if you live in Gramercy Green 😛, and its brand new! Too bad only sophomore undergraduates live there! 🙁

Can you definitely not apply for housing in those nicer places? I know some of my friends working in the city in past summers have lived in NYU dorms without even being NYU affiliated.

Not during the school year because all the nice residence halls are packed with undergraduates. However, during the summer you can pretty much live in any of the nyu residence halls even if you are not NYU affiliated because nearly all the undergraduate go back home for the summer break.

Guess this is the end of the road for me here....no interview given and I hear they are finished....it was fun while it lasted 🙂. Would have liked to interview here.

I'm a student at NYU med and I wanted to give you guys some new information. Scean posted something a while back about a "rumor" going around that Rubin hall will be demolished and the medical school will be moving the students down to 26th street. We just got an email from Dr. Grossman (Dean/CEO of NYU Medical Center) that this is indeed true and they are planning on razing Rubin hall. They plan to build a new research building in its place. Students will be relocated to housing on 26th street and University Court on 25th street starting in the Fall of 2010.

I REPEAT: YOU WILL NOT BE LIVING IN RUBIN HALL IF YOU COME TO NYU.

I hope this helps with your decision!

Hey guys,
26th street is unfortunately the undergrad dorm that when people find out they are assigned there, they often drop out of housing  It's notoriously awful. That said, most NYU undergrad dorms are really nice, so part of the issue may be the fact that 26th street isn't nearly as nice as the Union Square dorms or Water Street etc. But unless NYU renovates the 26th street dorm, it's probably no prize either 😉 I doubt it has communal bathrooms, none of the undergrad dorms do, and that is a HUGE plus over Rubin imo.
For clarification: I've never actually been inside the 26th street dorm, just heard the complaints. Edit: just asked a friend and he said 26th St is def better than Rubin 🙂

Everyone should also keep in mind that, while 26th Street is nicer than Rubin, rent will probably be more like $1000/month than $600. That price makes off-campus housing a bit more attractive...

As a med student who's been in both, 26th street is without a doubt better. I think part of the reason undergrads dislike it is because it's far away from their campus (but 4 short blocks from ours) and they share bedrooms. Currently, there are 4 undergrads in the 2 bedroom apartments, but there will only be 2 med students per 2 bedroom apartment. That said, it's still not a brand new building or as nice as maybe of the undergrad dorms, but it's a huge step up, and comparable to other med student housing I've seen elsewhere.

26th St has a kitchen, bathroom and small common space in each apartment. And the bedrooms are decent sized (since they do hold 2 undergrads now), especially for NY.

And in terms of price, it sounds like they're planning to drop the price to somewhere between Rubin and the current price of $1000/month (I've heard around $800/month, utilities and all included).

We'll keep you updated as we know more!

11/18 MSTP interview still waiting on the word. They will def get back to us by...when?
"Final Decision Pending" is driving me crazy.

does anyone know what the chances are if we had our interviews earlier (Dec) but have not been accepted yet?? is it most likely that we are going to receive a wait-list/rejection in March?? does NYU like letters of interest/intent??

I'm curious about this as well since I interviewed at about the same time.

just to make sure I undertand...we will have "singles" at 26th street...not bedroommate only an apartment mate. Plus separate bathroom per apartment ... this is Huge improvement over Rubin.

And apparently we might get a room in the top floors which "have gorgeous views of the empire state and chrysler buildings or downtown" according to juxnyu!!!! 👍👍🙂🙂 - it would be nice (or distracting 😕) to study while looking at Manhattan's view 😀

i interviewed in early november, have had "final decision pending" for a while now, but i checked today and it's reverted back to say "application complete - under review." anyone else experiencing this?

I interviewed mid November. Status still says "final decision pending."

Either a "bug" in the system, or maybe they change your status while they re-look at your application in the committee meeting. But I doubt thats the case.

I int'd in mid Nov as well and my status also changed from "Final D.Pend" to "AppComp-Under Review"

I suppose they passed over once and now are giving a second look to all who int'd already?

Anyone know the FAFSA school code for NYU SOM? I don't see it on the financial aid portion of the website. Thanks!

I'm sending my letter of intent here tomorrow... I interviewed back in early Dec. I wanted to wait till I went to my other interviews so I had something concrete to talk about and compare to. I hope they haven't decided on my file already, but it still will only help I think

I interviewed in early December, and my status is still on "Final Decision Pending."

I am guessing the status changes only for a short when you are being re-reviewed. Not everyone can be reviewed at once.

considering no one else is experiencing this issue, i'm fairly certain the status change is specifically occurring for mstp applicants (i.e., myself and JmanDO) who haven't yet heard back.

About two weeks until March 1 when we all find out for good. Hope it comes soon.

So I'm on MSTP waitlist. They invited me for a 2nd look though.

How is the movement on the waitlist at NYU? Not much I assume?

How about you newapple?

Anybody hear any acceptances lately?

The website says waitlist and rejection letters will be sent by March 1st.

I'm starting to think I'm in one of those 2 categories 😱

just a quick shout-out to all of you waiting for news on the waitlist and/or for scholarships...

I think NYU gives out few more scholarships than they let on, I know quite a few people who are not paying full price (myself included)

Here's the interesting part, I was waitlisted, got accepted in mid May, and received a decent scholarship offer a week later. Not sure how that works but the point is - stay patient with NYU, you never know 👍

thats awesome-that would definitely sway my decision...NYU was awesome and close to home for me, so some (merit based) scholarship money would definitely help me turn down some of my other schools 🙂

merit-based or need?

as above, HOPEFULLY some will be merit!

Does that mean no acceptances will be handed out then?

Can't say for sure. The website says:

Rolling acceptances handed out starting Dec 15. Waitlist and rejection notifications sent by Mar 1.

Pretty vague IMO

From what I read last year, there were acceptances then too.
