Hey, ya know what, if I get accepted I'll tell Dean Garcia about our group! 😀
Request accepted.
Now for more (somewhat) useless statistics. New US News rankings. Stanford unfortunately dropped 6 spots to #11. MCAT averages of enrolled students went down from a ~34.8 to ~33.9. Of more important note....
5820 applied, 450 interviewed, 206 were accepted, 86 enrolled
206 accepted! That means that given there are about 130-140 acceptances sent out...up to 70 waitlist acceptances could be given out. This is complete conjecture and probably means absolutely nothing (or have any relevance). Seems like a tough year for Stanford, went from 2.5% acceptance rate to 3.5% which is actually a big jump. I guess the waitlist did really get moving last year.
Good luck all and good night.

Boooooo. Obviously USnews doesn't know what they're doing. 🙄
Wow, 206 Accepted. Good news for us!
Woops. 5 spots to #11. It was #6 last year. This is strange because Stanford hasn't been out of the Top 10 in a while. Seems to be partially do the high waitlist movement last year and lower MCAT scores of matriculated students.
Wow, 206 Accepted. Good news for us!
also - I've been wondering this - where the hell are all the accepted kids? do they have their own secret thread? only the waitlisted kids hang out here anymore.
I've thought about this as well. The past 3 or so pages are just waitlisters, friends of waitlisters, and people going to HMS or the like wishing us good luck...where are the Stanford 2014 matriculants?
Oh man!!! Good news to help me fall asleep : )
EDIT: I will say that that is a rather huge drop in rankings...and one thing that does scare me (although they're still my first choice baby), is the insane drop in students receiving their first residency choice:
Last year: >70%
This year: 56%
I would argue that residency directors didn't look too favorably on Stanford applicants this past year :/

they're probably off being busy doing all the things that got them accepted to stanford in the first place![]()

Haha, so, um...Stanford!

I nominate premad to be the SDN waitlister's already-accepted ambassador to Dean Garcia. 😀

premad...didn't you crazy offers from like everywhere? where did you end up choosing from? are you going to stanford?
Any news for those who interviewed the last week of March/first week of April?? Getting antsy....
we're close yeah. i think it might have been two weeks plus change. Was the last week of interviews last week or two weeks ago? If it was two weeks ago then maybe today will be the last day of non-waitlsit acceptances.

Found this on Stanford's website:
Year Tuition per Quarter:
1920 $50
1960 $335
1980 $2,446
2000 $9,902
2005 $12,765
2009 $14,463

Is this adjusted for inflation?
Man, can u imagine 50 dollar tuitions?
Time to pay up! *shuffles through pockets* Ok, i got a 20....another 20....ooo a 5.... 4 dollars here....two quarters....damn...im 50 cents short...
Who did everyone call(if they did) for post interview status? The admissions coordinator or counselors? Thanks.
yeah wlers get in on this. with our powers combined...
at least four people got in over the past weekend
you mean off the waitlist or post-interview? how do you know this?
So because Stanford charges per quarter, the second and third year have a COA of about $91,000? Most other schools are listing COA for those years at $65,000-$75,000.
Can somebody set me straight if I'm confused? Does this end up sending us into significantly more debt than at other schools (assuming no grants)?
Yes. This is kind of ridiculous expensive...How is debt load at the end so low?
I mentioned this in a post on someone else's "Stanford vs. Cheaper School" thread, but I figure that I should repeat it here. When I interviewed they noted that their grads have the lowest debt, second only to Mayo, because their students work *really* hard to maximize their use of the school's funding options (MedScholars, parental matching, etc.). They stressed that the school itself is NOT inherently cheaper, as a matter of fact it is rather expensive. BUT, they offer so many sources of funding that a workaholic individual can really profit at Stanford.
In other words, Stanford *can* be as cheap as the UCs are to begin with, if you're willing to work your butt off.

👍. That was my impression too.
I'm not sure if the general financial status of the student's family play a role. For example, students might have relatively wealthier families who pays for a larger portion of their tuition and expenses.
All financial things aside, Stanford = 😍
To clarify, the middle income match works like this:
To be eligible for anything, you must have more than $0 of financial need. You receive your financial need, X, in grant money.
The maximum middle income grant is $4,600 per quarter. They subtract your actual need, X, from $4,600: $4,600 - X = Y. Stanford will match a parent contribution up to the value of Y. (So even if your parents can't give you the whole amount, Stanford will match what they can give).
However, if you are not determined to have need, then they will not match anything. 🙁
mdeast, I think you're getting $5,000 per quarter from the old system. Because of the reduction in tuition, the middle income match is reduced.
ditto. ive actually been trying to offer this eyeball to get in but for some reason its not working.yeah I've completely tuned out from this conversation. I'd sell my right eyeball and walk around like a pirate if I had to.
Do you remember what the new quarter tuition is?
Tuition is normally $14,732 and if you are only doing research for a quarter (such as taking time off to do full MedScholars) then you pay $2,946 per quarter.
Yeah, but getting significantly reduced tuition for your med scholars quarter is a pretty big decrease.Well that's not really much of a decrease. lol.
