yeah....hahaha

oh well, I'm poor, I hope I get a 50%. My EFC on the FAFSA is $0....

O lucky, I wish mine was lower

Although I think Tufts uses their own formula to calculate how much to give out. They will use your parents income, mortgage, marriage status, etc. FAFSA didn't take these things into account. So I would assume FAFSA was only for federal aid and the stuff we sent in to Tufts was only was institutional aid.

Just hope your parents are poor too 😀

EFC on the FAFSA only takes into account your income, which for me means my EFC is zero. Tufts (and most other schools), take into account your parents income, which means that your EFC may be much higher than on your FAFSA.

well, the good news is my parents are poor too! wooooo

Unfortunately I think i'm in that situation where my parents make enough to keep me out of need based aid, but will be paying the full price myself.

Not complaining, my rents put me through undergrad, but that 315k sticker makes my wallet hurt.

At this point, I'm not too sure where I stand. I am definetely not wealthy as I took out loans for undergrad. But it seems there is an overwhelming population of people in medical school whose parents make very little....so I just don't know what to expect on that eFAN

can a letter of interest be emailed? i thought they were supposed to be mailed. i was going to send one too but wasn't sure where to send it to.

I suppose it's up to you since they provided a mailing address in the interview packet, but at least on my interview day Emily Condon mentioned that she's happy to receive anything short of full published papers via email (basically as long as it can be easily printed and put in your file).

thanks so much.

Anyone hear anything about an invite lately? I'm really really hoping a few more are going out...

My problem as a non-trad student is that I have a job. So my EFC is NOT 0. Even with a part time job, it's well beyond 0 🙁

Add to that my parents' incomes when the school considers you for a financial aid package...

ugh. +pissed+:bang:

Just because I MAKE money doesn't mean I actually HAVE any with which to pay for medical school 😛

Meh I shouldn't complain... what will be will be.

So... who's ready to discuss housing? Anybody else wanna live really close to campus to avoid taking the T everyday if possible?

I'm thinking either ridiculously close (Chinatown) or decently away (Cambridge or Davis Square). I guess I like extremes?

I'm thinking Posner Hall. I know dorms suck. But it's cheap, close by, and since I'm not from around the area, it might be a good way to acclimate to the city of Boston first. (Before moving into an apartment).

Does anyone know what the schedule is like? Was it 8AM-12 lecture? When is PBL? And all that good stuff? I don't remember 😳....

ehh...the dean basically told us during the info session that Posner sucked and we could all do better - I remember liking the frankness of it.

Yea I know it's not the best place to live, but for the price I pay (about 870) a month for everything, it seems decent. Rent around Boston is insane, I couldn't find anything less than a 1000 (that was close by). With the added expense of transportation, heating, television, etc, it would be even higher.

Although for those looking, some people have recommended the Metropolitan to me.

I've talked with a lot of friends, and it seems a lot of them have found places for ~800/month + heat as long as they have 2 roommates, which I am fine with.

Anyone who interviewed in Feb hear back yet? We got that letter saying we'd hear something soon....

O wow, would you happen to know the names of these apartments or their availability?

I interviewed in the second week of February, and got a call this morning! He said letters should be mailed tomorrow... hope that helps, and good luck!

When does Tufts offer interviews until? Should I consider this school a rejection?

I believe late March/Early April? Not sure, but at this point, the chance of an interview are not terribly high. I'm sorry

Yeah I'm hoping for closer so I can just walk a few blocks to get to campus and avoid the half hour T commute. AlthoughI believe the apartments nearby are expensive it should be okay if it's like a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom, or even a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom. Something like that?

I'm wondering when I should start looking for housing and if I need to actually go out there... My sister lives in Boston in Back Bay and she might go out and look for some for me. 🙂 Back Bay is nice, I've stayed there with her, but it's really expensive and a bit too far from Tufts imo.

Well, the problem with Posner is that you can't live there during the summer. Assuming you want to continue living there after your first year, or even do research during your first summer you will have to move out in June and find another place. Too much of a hassle imo since I just want to find a place, live there for four years, and then be done.

I know this area very very well. PM me and I can tell you where the good places to live are, how long each commute will be and the price of the area you are looking in.

I feel you to some degree Sentinel. Considering FAFSA believes I could contribute more than 1/3 of my income from working at a non-profit to the cost of my education...

But of course the thing for all of us to really keep in mind is that we'll be coming out in a few years earning doctors' salaries. Either go into primary care, get some loans repaid, and still be in the top 1-2% income bracket, or specialize and you'll make plenty enough to pay back your loans and be pretty comfortable. Of course that is considering we wait a few years to get the shiny boat in the driveway and second home in Aspen. Of course that being said, the COA at Tufts is a significant factor to consider against other schools, but we should all (myself included) try to keep things in perspective when staring at all those potential zeroes.

I really don't want to seem like I'm singling you out here, you do seem to have a good perspective on it at the end of your post (and I met you at another interview day and you seemed like a nice guy), just more of a general comment for everyone to keep in mind.

Good luck to everyone out there though as they wait to get in and/or decide on where to go.

Got a waitlist email today. I'm a bit disappointed, but just glad that I'm still in the running. I really like Tufts and am hoping to get accepted later.

Yea I agree. That is the one big CON since I know 100% I'm staying for the summer (b/c of the MD/MPH field experience). I'll hopefully figure something out or maybe do it abroad.

does anyone know if current interviews are for acceptance or just for the wait list?

I interviewed 2 weeks ago and was accepted a few days ago. So, I think that you are interviewing for an acceptance, not a waitlist spot.

Can I just say that I am sick to death of the ten million and one financial aid forms and supporting documents that are required? Like, wow, I have to submit my parent's mortgage statement? Argh.

That is all.

Agreed, Its a huge pain in the a**. Even for me when I live around an hour from my folks.
