Anyone hear anything about second look weekend yet?

Maybe they're not inviting me because they KNOW I'll come to an interview and go here if accepted...

That logic makes no sense.

NO ACTIO NO ACTION NO ACTION NO ACTION..... since Sept. :( Come on Buff.. Really why can't you take action?

Seriously. No action since ~August 15th.

I am so sick of seeing that haunting phrase every time I open the status page.

Hmm, I was hoping my interview went to one of you folks...

Considering I attend the school and had good enough stats to get interviews from all the other SUNYs you'd think this would be the first place to give me one.

seriously!!! i'm no action since like august 1 ish!

No action party up in here!!!
Same boat, although I hear they interview very late, and Mr. Rosso said they review apps in a "random" order and no action means your app hasn't actually been reviewed. :( ... one day they'll find our apps, one day ...

No Action since about 7/1. Sent in my app 6/29. Am I to believe that my app has not yet been reviewed? Even if it was completely random, that seems a little unrealistic. O well, I haven't given up yet with this school because I do believe time is not a factor here as long as you are eventually invited.

oops I meant to say no action since 6/29. I was complete at the end of JUNE holy heck.

They apparently don't like their own:oops:... I haven't heard of anyone else with us getting interviews either, it's kind of sad!

seriously, I would gladly go here if accepted. but first, I need an interview!
gratuitous no actions:
NO ACTION NO ACTION NO ACTION NO ACTION NO ACTION NO ACTION NO ACTION

Since the waitlist is already pre-ranked in "thirds," does anyone know whether sending a LOI will actually bump one up? I'm not sure about doing it if the list is pretty much set in stone already...

Did you find out which 3rd you are in? I have tried calling the past 2 days and no one answers the phone. Did you email?

To answer your question, looking at last year's waitlist thread, you can be moved up/down the waitlist. I'm not sure if a LOI would necessarily do anything, but if it is your top choice, you should absolutely express that. If you are only sending one to improve your chances but wouldn't actually go there above all other schools, I wouldn't do it.

an LOI will make no difference, the score you're given will not change no matter what you do and it is this score that determines your waitlist position...your position changes according to the scores of others

I just learned that I'm probably going to be denied NYS residency my first year. Does anyone know how easy it is to pick it up. I assume I will have no trouble getting a 12 month lease in the student village or some other apartment? And once I get that, will the fin-aid office give me a hard time about picking it up for the following year?

you posted the exact same thing in the upstate forum but there you mentioned putting in a request for an apartment.....figure out where you're gonna go first then worry about where you will live (and please don't clutter forums by double posting)

madison/jefferson are likely full by now so rent a house if you go to syracuse, and you should be fine in university village if you go to buffalo but there are better and closer and cheaper apartments available

I think there is some relevance to posting this in multiple places, such as finding out where to live in city X. But sorry if I offended you.

BTW, I still have some time to figure out where I want to go, and the quality of my living arrangements may factor into my decision.

What is this status page everyone has been talking about? Is that for people who have had interviews? I'm still waiting to hear about an interview, or at least some decision...I've been complete since November...

You can find links to the status pages of various schools on this sticky thread.

I too am in the no action boat...

I have been complete since mid-July, and hope to get an interview at UB...Perhaps I will get lucky late in the cycle...

I was told by a member of the admissions staff that since applications are reviewed at random, all candidates regardless of their interview date are given a fair shot...

At least it makes me feel better than like a million of us have no action yet... but seriously, positive action some time soon would definitely be appreciated :) Yes, I know I stated the obvious, oh well. Just felt like adding to the sea of no-actioners

Does anybody know if the curriculum offers any courses related to teaching in an academic profession?

Also, what kind of community service opportunities are available? can anybody provide a link to them?

NO ACTION

Thats a term you use when talking about your relationship....

Hey SUNY B, You aint getting no ACTION from me!

+ a million bajillion on no action.... oy

Anyone have any idea how likely it is to get accepted off the top third of the waitlist before May?

soooo i just talked to my friend who is a first year at buffalo and she said that there are people in her class that were no action till like april and interviewed in like may and got accepted basically immediately! while it sucks to wait waiting doesnt mean the end of the world! there is still hope for us no actioners!!!

Good news

And to the post above, I'm not sure about timing but i I were on the top 1/3 of the WL, I would definitely be expecting an eventual acceptance (unless you are moved to another tier, which I think is possible at Buff).

March 3rd
I got my interview for March 3rd too!

Also, for anyone who is freaking out about not getting an interview here yet.....They accept students from every interview session. Actually, last year 2 people who interviewed on the last day (April 22 I think) were accepted. They do have a lot more applications this year than they have had in the past too. Normally around 3600 and this year its over 4200! So, it is taking them a little longer to sift through everyone's app. Good luck!

Does anyone know if letters of interest to Buffalo are worth writing?

Yes, I think they're worth writing. They still review applications and send out invites until March 31. And they do still accept from interviews through April. Good luck!

Is writing a post interview LOI worth it at buffalo. I know the waitlist is based on a score you received after your interview. Would a LOI make any difference?

Snail mail or email? Does it matter?

The LOI post-interview. I think would be worth writing, but I'd wait until you find out where you are on the waitlist (they'll tell you which 1/3). b/c they don't waitlist all interviewees, some just get flat out rejected and that decision is made the day of your interview. But, if you're waitlisted, I'd e-mail Mr. Rosso your LOI in April. It's good to keep your name and intent at the top of their mind. If they have people who had previously accepted drop their acceptance, it's due by May 1st for the deposit back. So, if you do it just before that, they know they'll be filling the spot with someone who wants to go there rather than extending an offer to someone they don't know will accept.

I would e-mail. I know Mr. Rosso checks his mail every day that he's working and is really good about getting back to you.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I am on the bottom third so my chances are slim to none. I am still going to send in a LOI though. From my understanding there have been times where they have taken a handful of people from the bottom third.

very true. You may move around (even up) on the waitlist as they finish interviewing through April. So, I'd do it. You can even call Mr. Rosso and ask where you stand later, after you send the letter or just ask if they got it. Good Luck! My interview is tomorrow!

Hey Guys,

I have a question for you. I'm in the middle third of the waitlist, however, I have serious interest in attending Buffalo. Looking at last year's thread, it looks like if I get accepted it will be after May 15th, and I will only have a few hours to decide. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong; last year's thread looked like ppl got the acceptance call in the morning and then had to call back by 2pm-ish)

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=615761&page=7

But, I wouldn't feel comfortable accepting an offer at Buffalo without looking around again at the school, the community, and maybe talking to a few more students. Do you guys think it makes sense to visit Buffalo in early April to look around more? Or is this a waste since there is no guarantee the waitlist will move as much as last year and I might never get in? If I go, should I contact the admissions office and let them know I'm coming?

Thanks!

I would say it's worth looking around more if you'd go there. The middle 1/3 tends to almost all get accepted. There have been years when the entire waitlist was accepted. If you want to go on another tour or something, talking to Mr. Rosso wouldn't hurt you. But, all he'd really be able to do is give you the same tour you already got and it'd have to be on a Wed. with everyone else probably. Really depends what you're interested in seeing though. GL

Personally, I don't think it's worth it to visit the school again. Everyone generally makes their decisions on medical school via a cursory glance unless they went to undergrad at the same institution, etc. I don't really think you'd get a better understanding of the school just by walking around or something. My advice would be to email students and maybe some faculty if you're bold enough. I would say we're pretty friendly;).

I almost wrote another letter yesterday but I already sent and update in December and called Mr. Rosso in February. Decided not to hit 'send'.. I don't want to be too annoying... but I just want them to look at my app =/
