Hi all! I interviewed last week (3/3) and am on the bottom 1/3 of the wait list. Those of you who were waitlisted a month ago and got in off of the middle 1/3, may have actually been moved up. The waitlist moves every Thursday when the interviewed people from Wednesday are added and those they are accepting of the list are removed from the list. So, if you called right after you saw your name on the waitlist and were told top third a while ago, you may have moved down to the middle or bottom third by now. It might be worth it to call again and see where you are now. Also, if all these people are being let in from the top and middle thirds, we may have moved up! YAY for me! 🙂 Finally, they don't offer enough acceptances to fill their class until the day and week after their last interview (April 22nd last year). Dr. Severin has a certain number of spots which he'll fill every week until the end. If they are not filled by people from that interview Wednesday, he decides which people off the waitlist should be offered an acceptance in the place of those who stunk in their interview (to put it harshly 🙂)
Interview odd questions.......
Just be prepared to write a page long essay about some random topic in 10 minutes while he lets all the 1st and 2nd years eat lunch and move chairs around and talk really loud while you're writing it. My topic was-Explain what "empathy" means to you. Easy topic for me, and I knew right away what I was going to write, but then he lets all these loud shuffling people in and they start eating lunch right next to you when you're STARVING! Also, make sure you eat a good, filling breakfast. There is no coffee/tea/juice/etc... once you get there until lunch at 12:30ish. (I was going to bring a granola bar to keep in my pocket and eat on the walk to the library, but I forgot b/c I was so nervous! good idea though!) Finally, I was really prepared to be asked ethical questions and current events or things like that-GOT NONE! My questions were all just about me and my application and why I wanted to be a doctor. The only "odd" (not really, but the most random I was asked) was "If you had to find out how many women got mammograms last year, how would you do that without using a computer or technology?" That's what I've heard of in the past being the lunch essay question, but that was a question I got in an interview. The other random I got (in my second interview) was "If you could interview one person, living or dead, in the news, who would you most like to interview and why?" Not super hard ?s, but for some reason (although I had practiced answers to every question under the sun in my head for the whole week before), my mind was going in 100 directions. I would be answering and trying to give an example of something but I wasn't saying what I was thinking. The words that came out were just coming out and my mind was thinking about other things. It was really hard because once I realized that was happening, I'd try to stop myself and ask myself what the heck am I supposed to be answering again and I'd get all lost! lol. I've never been that nervous before and I have no clue why it had to happen at that minute, but oh well. I'm praying and waiting a few weeks to see if I move up on the list. Good luck to all of you!
