I know this is a bit too early for me to be asking about it, given that I haven't gotten in yet. But, supposing I get off the middle third sometime in the middle of June, is that enough time to take out loans and to find an apartment in Buffalo? Does anyone care to explain how the loan process works? I didn't take out any loans for undergrad, so I'm completely new to this.
A few years ago I came to Buffalo, looked at apartments the first day of classes, and chose one, signed the lease, moved in that night. You can very easily find an apartment the day of classes. You just need to be careful in terms of neighborhood safety (if you live in the city), but as long as you visit and it seems pretty safe then it's probably okay. To answer your question, June is a huge amount of time to find an apartment. You'll be too late for any on-campus housing though.
100% of your loans/financial aid will be dealt with by Buffalo. Have you filled out a FAFSA form yet? I suggest you do so and add all your accepted and waitlisted schools to it (it's free and I think you can add up to 10 schools). They'll probably start giving financial aid around June/July. The only thing about the loans is that you have to call up their Bird service and accept them. I have no clue why UB doesn't just have it online (maybe they'll change it this year). Loans must be accepted by August 1st, but if you are accepted after that time I'm sure they have a later deadline. There is also a Master Promissory Note you'll have to sign, but they'll send you all that information. Basically you have to do almost nothing.
