I have lived in 3 states and traveled to almost all of them at some point in my life, but I love living in Washington it is hands down my favorite. If you can get past the rain and overcast skies, it is a wonderful place to live.

UW is the only allopathic medical school in WA so moving here to obtain residency may be somewhat limiting if you are coming from a state with multiple medical schools. That said, only about 6% of UW students come from out of region, so it would definitely be favorable to have in state residence.

Keep in mind that there are tons of residency programs in Washington, and the residency program you attend is a better predictor of where you will practice than the medical school you attend. With that in mind if you get accepted in your home state but not at UW you will likely still have opportunities to come to Washington when you graduate.

If it were me, I would be afraid that I would move to WA and then end up going to a medical school in another state and have to move again. I am not a fan of moving.

Great points, thanks for the reply.

And you're right, if acceptance/in-state tuition was the main goal, other states would be better options, statistically (Ohio, Texas, etc).

I can second that the Idaho decisions were released 3/8. I'm also on the alternate list. Anyone have any idea if the Idaho specific wait list ever moves? I'm not too optimisitc...🙁

Did they give you any sort of placement or just that your name is on a list?!

I am an Idaho resident & I interviewed last thursday & was rejected today 🙁 but it is ok because I am accepted at U of Iowa. Good luck to all. Go Hawkeyes!!

Congrats Hobo, my parents went to UI Carver College of Medicine it is a great school.

Yes, I have read that WA confers residency in 6 months, but do remember, that is 6 months before you APPLY not matriculate. So, if you are applying in June 2010 for the class beginning Sept 2011, you'd better be a WA resident by December 2009 latest

Does anyone know of an applicant getting in that had two interviews (within the same week)? Apparently there was a discrepancy between the interviewers :scared:

yeah someone earlier on this forum said they had the same thing happen, and they were already accepted!

If anyone else has two interviews, the difference was night and day! It is crazy. I have no idea what happened! Good luck with the process. :xf:

It's a ranked list. I'm placed as alternate #4.

Does that mean that the class is full and they are beginning to pull people from the 'under consideration' category? Or is a alternate list rank of 4 specific to OOS Idaho applicants?

Thanks!

No, I'm pretty sure that is just an Idaho specific list. They haven't had their final meetings yet for the WA spots, those will happen at the end of this month, and then an alternate list should go out after that...

It is an Idaho specific list. Sorry for the confusion.

Surprised there isn't much going on in this thread. Has anyone heard back from the recent MT interviews yet?

Ah, my first post. I interviewed Tuesday and heard nothing today. I was really hoping to hear tonight, so I could have my weekend without wonder.

I'm guessing Monday will be the day... Good luck to you guys.

:luck:

I interviewed 3/2, got the email today... still under consideration. Seems like a lot of folks are in the same boat.

congrats on still being under consideration! i was interviewed on 3/2, as well, but still no news. oh well, the beauty of interviewing as late in the game as we did is that we don't have to wait too long for a final decision  best of luck to you!

Best of luck! Let me know how it went, my showdown is on the 17th.

my interview was okay...not the horrendous interrogation that some people say it is, but nothing to really write home about, either. just a couple of ethics questions, the usual "why medicine?" with some follow up, opinions of health care reform, and some other basic questions.

so, we'll see. i haven't heard anything yet, so just patiently waiting. heh, okay, not so patiently 🙂

best of luck to you during your interview on wednesday!

So... tomorrow I find out if I get accepted into UW or not... and I'm FREEEEAKING OUT!

Anyone who sees this, say a prayer for me. If you don't believe in God then just cross your fingers. It'll be good karma and the positive energy will help us all get acceptances! :luck:

I wish you all a great week.

how do you know that you find out tomorrow?? and yes I will pray for you lol, even though I'd rather have that spot for myself 🙂

nevermind, just realized you're from montana, so we are not competing for the same spot (wa resident), good luck!!

I spoke with the admissions office last week, and while they made decisions on Friday, I don't think MT applicants will know until the middle of the week. Good luck! :xf:

Its gonna be a nail-biter of a week, possible two weeks. I hope we all get in, the more docs the better. I know thats not realistic though. Just keep in mind if you don't get accepted that you still have a lot to offer medical schools, especially if you have made it this far.
Good luck to everyone who is still waiting, especially those of you who are interviewing this week. I will keep all of you in my thoughts.

ugh.....

Just received my acceptance email 😀

I interviewed Wednesday, March 10th for a MT spot (non-TRUST).

Good luck to everybody! :luck:

Just notified as an alternate for MT WWAMI. Anyone know how many alternates there are or how to find out what number you are? 🙁

I was also put on the MT alternate list... I emailed them to accept the position and asked how many of us there are, if it's ranked, etc... If they reply I'll let you all know!

I pulled this from the UW admissions site:

As students withdraw, additional students are accepted from the ranked (in the case of Montana, unranked) alternate lists established for each state.

This is from the UW interview information:

The Non-Washington WAMI states have ranked lists varying in number between five to ten alternates.

Hope this helps and I hope you get pulled into the acceptance pool! :xf:

Thanks SpecialK! Congrats on your acceptance 👍

I just found out that I'm on the MT alternate list and have my fingers crossed that I'll get off the list soon.

Congrats to those of you with acceptances already and good luck to everyone else!

I received a "still under consideration" email about a week ago and nothing since then. What does this mean exactly? it's not like I have been put on the alternate list so... I sent a letter of interest the day after I interviewed. I am out of state so perhaps they want to fill spots with WWAMI's first? Just hope I get some good news soon:xf:. I love to be here in the fall!!

I'm in the same boat. To be under consideration is actually a fairly good sign, as far as I know nobody has been rejected yet after getting the under consideration email. A few people have been accepted after getting the message but most of us will be reviewed again after the last interviews (March 19). Most of us will hear back some time between March 23rd and the first week of April.

The vast majority of people who are not rejected after their interview are put under consideration, and as an out of region candidate to be under consideration means they really liked you, as very few OOR's even get interviewed.

Good luck, rest assured that you are not the only one anxiously awaiting any news from UW.

Latinabelle, you are still lucky to be in the running! 'Still Under Consideration' status means they really like you. As for me, I wish to be in your position. I still don't have any email after my interview, so my future is bleak. You'll be fine. 👍

Kitsnia, just wanted to let u know that I also interviewed on 2/25 and have heard nothing sense. I don't think we should read too much into it, the excom commitie has prob just been busy with the out of state applicants.

wow, its been quiet here lately!
Looks like we are getting close to a big decision week here from UWSOM!

Good luck to everyone!

Anyone else getting the nervous vomiting feeling when thinking about the week ahead?

this just adds another layer of stress onto my sprint to finish thesis!!

Good luck to everyone!!

I was looking at last years UW thread, it looks like everyone who didnt receive a final decision before the final meeting was either rejected or waitlisted, I didnt see any acceptances given immediately after the final meetings. Does anyone know if this is the case?

yeah I just read through all of those too, it does seem like there weren't very many acceptances. but the waitlist last year seemed to move really quickly! and they got to like #40 on the list. so there's still some hope I guess!

i spoke with the dean (Dr. Teitz) and she said that they accepted up to #42 on the waitlist last year, and that if you are numbers 1-10 or 12 on the waitlist, you are for sure getting in because of the way they hold spots for the MD/PhD program.

So for those on the waitlist, or for those of us who have yet to find out their decisions, hopefully it makes things a little easier.

Good luck to everyone this week!

The waitlist hasn't been made yet has it? I thought they decide that during the final excom meetings, like today thru thursday??
