I'm currently in Australia right now, so I was wondering if I could have my dad send a check and I just fax the signature page. I'll call them tonight (morning in the States) and see what they say.
I emailed them and got a response (3 minutes later!) that both ideas are cool with them.

Does anyone know the USMLE pass rates? I've been looking, but can't find any numbers.

Just wondering how their students perform compared to other schools...

I was told Wake Forest is slightly above the national pass rate (92-94%) for first time takers. Students also match very well to their desired residencies. You can email the office for the most recent match list.

hey, you're already accepted to WF this cycle? How? Did you apply EDP?

I'm pretty sure propel1 got accepted last year and deferred a year.

I was accepted last year through the EAP (Early Assurance).

Also, when many of you later check the status page and see that you've been placed for an interview, call the admissions office right away and they usually will set up a interview date for you. I know many last year waited for the email to tell them they will receive an interview but that may take a week.

Hey fellow Wake Foresters. I am just being paranoid and had a quick question.
I got notification that they recieved my primary today and when I checked the status it said "Your app. has been recieved and is being evaluated, we will email you in 1-2 weeks"
This isn't the dreaded rejection is it? Or is this just the notification they put up before they decide if you get a seconadry.
Thanks guys!

That's the "You're in the process of being screened. Hold your horses." message. You're cool 🙂

Thanks Aggro, I saw that and of course being a crazy pre-med started thinking of the hidden meaning of those words...I went from excited to crap in my pants in like 3 seconds.😱

Yeah the bad one is "You will be receiving an email updating your status" or something like that.

I called the school and they said it is fine to use work experiences for the "service activity" essays. On a related note, is anyone else considering using the same activity for both essays?

For these essays, are you guys making it very personal , like here's a cute little anecdote about when i helped little Juan learn his ABCs, or just talking about the activity in general?

Just wondering if anyone has every been to Winston-Salem? I have never been and would like to know a little bit about the area. Any information would be helpful, positive or negative. Thanks.

regarding the question about using the same activity both, I emailed them last night got a response this morning saying "yes" so that's a green light.

Like others have said, don't worry.

I got that email last night, my first hearing from Wake, and had the same status. This morning, they changed it, saying I was getting a secondary.

So keep checking that status page.

I have family in the Winston-Salem so I visit there every couple of years. From what I remember it's a pretty quiet suburb setting, and the hospital is big.

I live in NC and a few weeks ago I visited Winston-Salem. It was a nice town, not a booming metropolis (but really no city in NC is). It isn't a bad drive to the mountains or beach so if you like outdoor stuff then you are set.
I know at least where I live in NC right now the nightlife isnt great so my friends and I kind of have to create our own fun. But all of NC is really pretty throughout the year and its a nice mix because you get warm southern summers but sometimes can also get snow in the winter so really all seasons are represented nicely.

I'm going with a general one for the one that had the most impact on me and a specific example for the most impact on someone else. Seems good to me.

I lived in Winston-Salem for nearly 9 years. It's a pretty good town. If you look for it, there is a nice variety of cultural/historical events (NC School of the Arts is here, Old Salem), restaurants, outdoor activities within comfortable driving distance, basic malls/theaters/shopping, BARBEQUE!, and good close cities that offer more of the night life type stuff (Greensboro~35min away, Charlotte~1hr away).

I've got a lot of family in Winston and they don't plan on leaving. Just the right size for someone who wants a small townish feel in a relatively larger city.

This is one of the big things I am looking for. I am ready to get out of the big city.

Two quick questions -

Does anyone think it's a big deal to not include ACT/SAT scores?

-and-

Is pretty much everyone writing something in the personal comments field? Is it almost expected to write something about why you're interested in Wake?

Thanks!

I didn't.

I wrote about something else.

I don't think it is intended as a "why Wake?" prompt. If it was, that is what the prompt would have said. I don't think they want "why Wake" at all. They make it seem like an extension of the personal statement/tell us more about yourself. I don't think including why you want to go to Wake Forest is bad, but that doesn't seem to really be what they are looking for.

It is not a Why Wake prompt. Write anything you feel the committee should know about you, that is not in any other part of your application. If there is nothing, then don't write anything.

So if I had a nice essay on why playing guitar helps me in life, I could use that and it would be something like an "anything else to add/tell us something not on AMCAS" question?

If you can tie it into how it has helped develop you as a person, or how it could play a beneficial role in your career in medicine, then absolutely. But don't spend the paragraph comparing real guitar to rock band guitar. 🙂

Well of course that's what I mean  - I use it about connecting guitar and medicine. If I didn't like it I wouldn't have already sent it to 2 schools.

Oh that's lame. I was kind of hoping for the real guitar vs. rock band guitar breakdown 😛

But yes, go for it - that would be a relatively unique supplement.

Anyone submitting more than 2 LORs for Wake? I have a total of 5 and I don't want my others to go to waste!

i submitted my primary to them on wednesday . . . how long did it take before you got this email?

I submitted three letters. You can submit more than 2 if you want. I emailed them and they said you can submit up to 8 (but doing so is probably not a good idea). I might add a fourth one...still deciding.

Up to 8 eh? That may be excessive, but I could see it adding up if you're a non-trad. I mean really really non-trad.

MaryLennox it after I got the reciept from AMCAS saying they got my application, to the time I got an email from Wake was exactly one week. AMCAS says you should notify your schools if you don't hear anything over 2 weeks.

Totally stupid question I know, but I'm paranoid enough about apps to ask it anyway. On the signature page, do we have to sign the "combined degree release" too, even if we're only going for the MD? It says "if applicable" but I'm not sure if we have to sign it regardless of the degree we're going for.

If you're MD only, you don't have to sign it.

I'm mildly frustrated Wake hasn't sent me a secondary yet. They say they're waiting on my mcat (which was uploaded about 5 days ago), but outside of a complete bombing of it, I don't see how they could screen me out already, especially because I'm in state. Oh well.. I'll just have to wait and submit mid-cycle even though I completed amcas on june 1st.
