I've seen quite a few more pre secondary rejections than I expected. How strict is their screening? And about how many people get post secondary interviews(like percent or something)? Cause I've seen their stats, but I assume that the applicants they list include those rejected pre secondary as well.

This is kinda sad - I've been checking my status so much the past week that I've memorized both my user id and applicant nbr 😳

lol and to think I was surprised when I had my AAMC ID # memorized

you know, we should all think of this post-submission time as relaxation time. Ideally haha

I would love that, but it's just become a time of obsessive email checking and status checking. Hahaha. I feel like I am certainly not alone either.

According to the numbers I have, about 8% of applicants get an interview.

I've seen 8-9% as well. But I would assume that includes those who get screened out pre secondary. Maybe not though. I'm curious about how thorough the screen is.

Exactly my point. I wonder what percent of people that actually do the secondary get an interview or what percent get screened out pre secondary. It may not be possible to find though.

Well I was under the impression that about 1/3 of all applicants get the secondary. If 9% ultimately get interviewed, I guess about 27% of those who get the secondary ultimately get interviewed. I don't know how accurate the estimate of how many get the secondary is though, I don't recall where that number came from.

Yeah, but we are talking as a whole right now. Considering nobody really knows the numbers for this in the first place, discerning IS/OOS really is silly. I would imagine it scales proportionately though. I didn't know that only about 1/3 make it to secondary. That's impressively strict imo.

my rejection letter said something to the effect of 'we don't like to screen based on numerical criteria alone and we reviewed your application personally before making this decision.' (not the exact words, because i don't feel like rereading my rejection.) but it does appear that they ARE looking for something, some sort of fit that apparently i was missing.

but then again, my gpa IS low. maybe they throw the low ones in the about-to-be-rejected stack, then go through and rescue a few of the really good ones 🙂

You have a 36. So I think you will be fine with other schools 😎

Well, i have no idea what they are looking for either, and I have been trying to figure it out. Earlier you thought it was maybe because you were an older student. That can't be true because I am older than you and got one. Sorry you didn't get one though, it makes me sad to see the other non-trads go... 🙁

Does their email take a while to get or something? My status says it has been emailed to me but I see nothing in my inbox.

Did you end up getting it later that same day? Or did you have to call them? I have the same thing going on.

Fall 2007 Admissions Statistics

Total admissions data 7485 applied, 501 interviewed, 276 were accepted, 120 enrolled

In-state admissions data 842 applied, 141 interviewed, 91 were accepted, 43 enrolled

Out-state admissions data 6643 applied, 360 interviewed, 185 were accepted, 77 enrolled

More than half interviewd get accepted. Please give me an interview, WF.

Most schools I've seen accept "most" of the interviews. They call you in to get you to go there, not to waste everyone's time.

How did you find out? Via snail mail, or email, or just by checking your status online?

Sorry for your bad luck.

Email- it totally sucked too, the subject line was like, 'Your Application to WFU 2010" or something, and there was an attachment. So i was thinking, no way, i got a secondary after all??? then i opened it and the attachment was the rejection letter. lol. so if you see that subject line don't get excited.

anyway it's ok, its going to be the first of many rejections to come, i'd rather it was a school i was lukewarm about to begin with. my luck will come from another school. best of luck to the rest of you!! :luck:

Alright everyone, I've got some good news! I emailed Wake Forest about what the status "means", and if it's a post-secondary hold or not. Here's the reply I got:

"What the status means is that you have been placed in an interview pool and may get an invitation for interview. There usually ends up being about 1,000 in the top interview pool with spaces for only 550 to be interviewed. So we send the invitations. That hasn't been done as of yet for the interviews which will begin mid September. Stay tuned, you could possibly hear something soon."

That's more re-assuring than a straight-up hold. So everyone sit tight and hope for good things.

so at most 55%

It seems nobody else is looking at this like I am:

So ok, we've been placed in an interview pool, but is it the top interview pool? I hope so...

So this may be the completely wrong place to post this but as you will see I'm kind of new to SDN so give me a break 🙂 Just wondering if anyone could give me any information on the strengths of Wake Forest, good points, reasons to go there etc. I'm trying to decide whether to apply here and I looked on the website but it didn't seem to really help much. I kind of got the feeling they are really interested in people who want to do primary care--which is not me.

I noticed that too, but if they are only interviewing from the top pool, it seems a little odd to call other groups "interview pools". Is the "no interview" pool an "interview" pool?

When I visited Wake Forest SOM, all of the med students that I talked with absolutely loved being there. I think part of the reason why is because the faculty and staff are just so nice & wanting to see you succeed--it brings about a positive atmosphere all the time. The hospital is first class along with the facilities. The area around campus is seriously beautiful. The personalities of the faculty make a huge difference in how you will enjoy your years, and I know for a fact Wake Forests' faculty are the best.

I don't think WF is really interested in students that only want to pursue primary care. In fact, last years Match List had many students go into anesthesiology, surgery and two neurosurgery residencies--its truly up to you on which residency you want to go into and the people at Wake will help you get there.

I don't like this "double screen". You get past the first screen and you can still get the shaft!

question..

the address we mail the signature form to...doesn't have a street address. is that correct?

is so, how the deuce do the postal workers know where to send to?

mhm.

Does Wake Forest not have a student host program? 🙁

I know people who have interviewed there and I am pretty sure that they do have a student host program. Like 80% sure. Or at least that they did last year, but I could definitely be wrong. I would check at least.

True, no number in the street address. But, the zip code is actually the most important thing to locating an address, and the 10 digit zip is basically a bulls-eye, bingo. The postal worker who has the Wake Forest route definitely knows how to get it there, and probably LOVES this time o'year. Better than Christmas. 😀

Do they send email confirmation or update the status page when they received the signature form and the application is complete?

A message appears on the status page saying the file is complete. It took a week or so from sending my materials for that message to show up.

The status page goes from
1) we have received your secondary application and are waiting for your signature page and check
2) we have received your signature page and check, we will email you once your letters are confirmed
3) we have received your completed application, we are reviewing your file now

From the day I mailed out my sig page and check to getting the complete email was about 11 days.

Do they send email confirmation or update the status page when they received the signature form and the application is complete?

They will do both ... I received an email an hour ago telling me everything is complete and that initial review will take 1-2 weeks.

FWIW ... I mailed the signature page 7/28 and just got the "all complete" email/status update today, 8/14.

Wow finally got the secondary and submitted! I feel so late to the party with this school. 🙁

Same here, sent off the form today. Hope we're not too late in getting early-ish dates for interviews.

Judging by people who say they are getting interview dates already, I'm pretty sure they've moved past the early dates. But who knows? Just wish I didn't get screwed by "technical problems".

Ok I decided to apply and complete this secondary. But what are people doing for the additional info section? Is this a why wake forest and does any current wake forest student think by not filling it out I will hurt my chances for an interview?

Yeah you're right, by the time they mark us complete and review our apps I'm guessing we'd be lucky to get interviews for November.

Um, FWIW I wrote a "Why Wake Forest" essay and I got an interview.

How long after receiving the "complete/your application is ready for review" email did you all start getting interview invites?

I got a status update email from Wake today that said that my application is being reviewed. Thirty minutes later, I got an interview invite! I didn't get any notification though. Do they send you an email or anything with additional interview information or are you just expected to call? Good luck everyone. Godspeed!
