Any hotel recs? I will have a car, so it doesn't have to be next door or anything, but say within 20 mins driving time?

The Hawthorne Inn is a legit hotel. It's not a bad price either since they work in conjunction with the medical center, a call them ahead of time and say your interviewing at Wake and they'll give you a discount. I had a car too but they had free shuttles to the medical center, which I used to save the hassle of parking and the driver was nice enough to drop me off right in front of the complex I needed to be at.

Hawthorne is decent and ~5 minutes from the med center. Really though, you could even stay somewhere cheap by the airport if a 20 minute drive is OK with you.

I know I posted already about the last prompt on the secondary, because I was debating what to do with it. I thought of it sort of like a "why Wake" kind of prompt. So I typed something up, but considering how short the first two prompts were I'm debating about the length of what I have. There's a version that's about 300 characters more than my first two, and another version that's a lot bigger than that, about 2/3 page. What do you guys think: 2/3 ok, 300 over good, or best to keep blank? I promise, my last question about this, heh. Thanks!

Wake seems to value interest in the school more than the typical med school. So I'd say definitely include the essay, and if the longer one isn't overly repetitive and actually filled with strong reasons, I'd go for it.

Been looking through this thread, but thought it might just be easier to ask. I have already received and filled out a secondary application, but I have not seen anything about checking status updates or anything.

In which email was the status update given to you guys, because I would really like to go and check mine. It has been about 3 weeks since I submitted the secondary. All I got was this email:

"The Committee on Admissions will now evaluate your application for interview status. Interview is by invitation from September through March. Not all interviewable candidates can be invited. If you have not heard by April, you will receive notification of your status at that time."

Thanks

got a snail-mail letter from them that started with "I sincerely regret" and my heart just dropped. turns out, it was the director of minority affairs "sincerely regretting" that he did not meet me during the interview. here's to the faint glimmer of hope!

That's basically the complete/hold email. You get it upon completion, and it changes when you get an interview. I had that message for about a week or so before I called them, and they offered me an invite over the phone. A few others have tried it and gotten an invite that way, but I think they've stopped doing that now.

I think it's status, email, AND snail-mail. So I'm assuming status goes up first.

You're right that it's all 3. I'm not sure if status goes up first (i didn't check it before I got the email) but that would make sense. I got the snail mail a few days later.

hey.

what do yall think about being in a lower pool at this school--"one that the're not currently interviewing from."

Do you think it's worth schecking up on or should I just wait for late season serendipity?

Thx

I don't really understand what is going on with Wake now. I called to ask about my status and was told I was in a pool being constantly reviewed, like the emails said. However, when I asked whether there were multiple pools, she said no and that everyone was together. What does that mean considering that some people heard about "top pools?"

I have to fly into Greensboro because there are no flights into Winston-Salem the day before my interview. Did anyone else have to do this? Any hotels offer shuttle services??

I didn't think Winston had an airport?? I flew into Greensboro, but it was pretty late so I had to get a cab from Ground Transportation to my hotel, which was very close to the med school. $51 one-way (probably got ripped off). But since it was late, they drove me in a 2009 Lincoln Towne Car lol 🙂

I posted instructions on how to get from Greensboro to WS earlier in the thread. Check it out. 👍

Good luck this week. I have seen a lot of you coming through the school these last few weeks. For those of you who get in, I would tend to say it is quite a privilege to gain admission to Wake at any time, let alone in the first go around so congrats. to you. Also, if anyone has any questions let me know.

Found it, thanks! Four interviews scheduled for that week (nuts, I know), can't afford to run into transportation problems anywhere 😳

yup same thing with me. i've been complete since mid/late august or so. the status still says something like "interviews are from september to march. if you're invited then we'll email you." hmmmm

For those of us who have already been interviewed and whose applications are supposed to be reviewed today....think we'll see a decision posted today? Would they post a decision as soon as they're done reviewing? Eeek!

i think one time they were posted @ 3pm (eastern time) but i just checked and no news as of now!! ill check back in a couple hours ugh

Part of me wants to call the admissions office and just ask when decisions will be released, but I'm afraid they'll be like, Uh, impatient much?

well i called to see what was going on. they said it may take up to a week for them to post their decisions

Yup, I was about to post the same thing. I called around 4:15 (eastern time) and the woman said that the committee still hadn't met...lol.

I get an error message when trying to access it now. Could be good news.

EDIT: Nevermind, now it works. Same old status. They're probably going to do it tomorrow.

So does this mean that for those of us that interviewed three weeks ago that they still don't know??

Just spoke to admissions and she said that the committee met yesterday (Wed) and they are in the process of counting up the votes. She said the online status will be the first to be updated which will be well before you get an email and we should know by no later than Monday. Another weekend of hourly heart attacks...

Guys, don't be discouraged! Send in a letter of interest right away, it may work in your favor. You just have to let them know your still very interested in their school.

wow, rejected post-interview.

wasn't a good fit, I'm okay with it. good luck!

Wow, no one has posted an acceptance. Very strange. Not sure what Wake is looking for, but it must be something very specific. I'm still waiting to hear back about an interview. Stuck on that stupid hold message for like 6 weeks. I'm debating whether I should just beat them to the punch and withdraw. Better than a rejection. But I don't see a withdraw option online.

waitlisted!!! I thought this school gave out acceptances like it was candy! boo wake forest, yall suck

Wow, not a single acceptance??

i know, that seems really strange to me too. has anyone that interviewed in september not heard anything yet? if so, maybe they're sending out waitlist/rejections first?
