My understanding is that there are currently no attendings who graduated from this program so we can't say whether they're staying in academia.
Right, there are currently no alum attendings from CCLCM. The first class graduated in 2009, so they are now in their second year of residency. The earliest some of them will become attendings is in July 2012. This is assuming that they don't do a fellowship.
I was wondering though if anyone knew how many of the residents are pursuing research-heavy residencies. I know there are certain pathways (ie. the Holmann Pathway for radonc, the ABIM Research Pathway, etc) that emphasize academics and provide protected time to conduct research. It'd be interesting to see if a large percentage of graduates of the College Program are pursuing these types of residencies.
Sorry, I don't know the answer to that, and I haven't ever seen any stats about it. It's possible that some of the IM residents are doing ABIM--those programs don't require applicants to have a PhD, just substantial research experience. But my understanding is that people join this kind of program during their first or second year of residency, not while they're applying. So the med school probably isn't going to know who is doing ABIM unless the alums tell them. Offhand, I can only think of one person who went into rad onc, and I don't know if he did Holmann.
The other thing to consider is that a significant number of CCLCM grads from the first two classes went into clinically oriented specialties like surgery and surgical subspecialties, which generally don't have formal research track residencies. So obviously these people cannot do a research track residency, even if they're planning to have a research-oriented career. This is the category I fall into: I'd definitely be interested in doing a research track residency if I could, but I'm not going to have the option. A lot of my classmates are applying in these kinds of clinical specialties as well, so same thing.
I'm still out of town on my away rotation, but when I get back in a couple of weeks, I'll ask around and see if any of my IM-bound classmates are planning to do ABIM. It's a highly unscientific informal poll, but it's better than the noninformation we currently have. Also, since you're interested in ABIM, you might find this website from the physician scientists forum useful:

Sorry to repost a question but I was wondering if any current students of CCLCM happen to know anything about this. I searched around on the school website but couldn't find any such info.
Patience, my friend. I am the only CCLCM student posting here who has been in medical school for longer than a couple of months. And even I am still learning to navigate my way around the vagaries of the residency application system.
😉
Congrats on interview invites! I heard that interviews start mid-September...time really flies. And sorry to hear about rejections from the college program - but the UP is absolutely amazing, don't let that get you down! Really, they keep bringing in leading experts in the fields to present topics, and the facilitated small-group learning process is better than I even thought. <3
I agree with all of the above.
A few CCLCM students I've run into so far have expressed interest in doing a gig in an educational institution and going hybrid clinical/research. But CCLCMer is the true font of knowledge of all things College and the secrets therein. 😀
Just when I thought this pressure cooker of a rotation couldn't get turned up any hotter....now all of you are making demands on me too???
😛
And it seems CCLCMer's coming back in a week or so - what day shall we set for the Eggplant Potluck I, 2010?
I'll be back in the Cleve at the end of next week. Are you guys going to be around for Labor Day weekend?
And what's more, how do we FIND all the SDNers who haven't posted in ages in order to invite them? I could always send the listserve something like
"Calling all of SDN - please email me for eggplantelicious details"

lmao
I think we know who all of the CCLCM posters are in real life, so there won't be a problem from our end. But pretty much the entire CCLCM first year class posted on SDN last year, so you should probably just spam all 32 of them.
