Do any of you have recommendations for hotels close to the medical school?

Try the Baymont inn, it's really nice and economical too! It's in Lebanon, its not that far from campus, but you would need a car to get to Dartmouth though.

Any hotels that are walking distance to Dartmouth?

I just google mapped it, and the Hanover Inn is on campus but its $250+ per night. 👎

Thank you for comments! I wanted to ask about flying into Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. Would that be a good option other than flying into Lebanon?

Thanks

Anyone with any interview invites recently after the initial batch?

Lets us know, so we may congratulate you 🙂

Do most interviewees fly back the day AFTER the interview? it seems like it would be hard to get a flight late enough. Interview day ends at 3:30 or 4 PM....

Yea, there were hardly any late night flights out of logan, especially since I have to take the Dartmouth Coach after the interview. I guess I'll be staying in hanover for two nights.

Edit: I'm also debating getting a hotel in Boston by Logan for the second night.

Does anyone know if Jim Yong Kim is involved with the medical school at all, or is he too busy being president?

interview invite today. received the complete email on 7/27

Do you think they're reviewing applications in order of completion? I was complete at Dartmouth early July and haven't heard a peep...and it looks like they are "all over the place" in terms of "complete dates and interview invitations".

I don't mean to sound presumptuous in assuming they've reviewed my application already or that I'm expecting an interview, it just would be nice to "have an idea" where my application stands.

For everyone that's interviewing..why don't you guys go with the student hosting program instead? it's much more convenient than staying at a hotel esp cuz the Hanover Inn is so $$$

There isn't a student host coordinator, and I feel it awkward to email each host individually. Plus, Hanover Inn is only $160/nite if you mention that you're interviewing at med school. I am aware tho that Hanover Inn is not a great hotel, but its location beats all else.

it's definitely not awkward to email each host and i'm sure we all welcome it. PM me if you want more details

Theres a student hosting program? How do I get in contact with the student hosts?

What would be awkward is to pay $160 when there are hosts willing to accommodate you for the night.

Where is the Hanover Inn by the way?

The host info is in the second paragraph of the "Confirmation Letter.doc" file attached to your interview confirmation email.

Hanover Inn is on the front of Dartmouth, which will be approximately an 8 min walk to the medical school.

and ditto to what schlieren said for the location of the hosting link

Thanks for the welcoming, reflex. I shall add that Hanover Inn is where you take the Dartmouth Coach bus to/from Boston Logan airport. If you stay at other hotels and take the bus, you'd have to drag the luggage around on the interview day. I plan to store my luggage at Hanover Inn, and at 5pm take the last bus from there, arrive to Logan one hour before my flight. I hope the bus doesn't run late and I can catch my flight.

When do you interview?
I just scheduled my interview for October 5th. Flights out of Lebanon are at 5:05 at the latest though, and I dont know if I will be able to make that flight.

Call the admissions office and let them know that you have to catch a 5pm flight and they'll put your 2 interviews back to back in the earlier slots, so you won't have to wait/miss your flight.

Hmm for the 'share something with us' essay, would it be appropriate to describe some activities I do to take the stress off university? Such as camping, hiking, ball hockey, squash, table tennis even though they're mainly recreational?

That's more or less what I wrote about for that essay (granted, I don't have an interview invite 😛). From poking around their website, Dartmouth seems to emphasize out-of-class activities, so I wrote about what I've been doing (including work, volunteering, recreational/well-being stuff) in my year or so out of school and how it helped me sort of refresh and prepare for the challenges that lie ahead blah blah blah.

Yay! Interview Invite!!! Completed yesterday (August 19), and interview invite today (August 20).
Stats: 35T, 3.9
😀

Nice! 👍

Interview invite for me as well. I was complete one week ago. Sweet. First one of the season 😀
Stats for the interested: 3.9, 37R

So how heavily does dartmouth weigh in MCAT scores? Their website speaks of how MCATs are not required, yet the people getting interviews seem to be getting MCATs in the late 30s...that seems like MCATs DO matter...alot. Any input?

Yeah, it looks like DMS is being stats-heavy this time around. 🙁

Where does Dartmouth webpage say it does not require MCAT ?? This is what its webpage says:
"Students who choose not to submit MCAT scores will be at a disadvantage. Although the Admissions Committee does not employ rigid cutoffs, applicants should be aware that the average combined entering MCAT score is approximately 34, and the average undergraduate GPA is 3.8."
"Applicants have a mean undergraduate GPA of 3.7 and an average MCAT total of 33"

They matter to an extent. Dartmouth adcoms cares more about getting people who will fit into the Dartmouth family than they do about stats. Stats are important, but if you're extraordinary in another way you can still get in with more modest stats.

The only people I know of who didn't take the MCAT and got in are those who did the Bryn Mawr post-bac.

just got an interview! ecstatic about this, my number one choice🙂

was complete second week of august.

This is making me really nervous. I was complete on July 28th and haven't heard a peep since then while people complete recently are already getting interview invites. Can't be a good sign...

I wouldn't worry yet. I too was complete sometime in July, and haven't heard anything either. It's still pretty early in the cycle in terms of interview invites...so don't lose hope! Dartmouth is one of my top choices, so I'm trying to stay optimistic. 🙂

Just submitted the secondary and paid the fee. Just have to wait for AMCAS to verify my primary now and get my MCAT scores

Yeah, I don't think that Dartmouth checks the applications in order. Chuan19 got an interview a day after submitting it--either they're not doing it in order, or they're so up-to-date that they are waiting for apps to come in. Its probably the first.

Of course, I would want it to be the first, since I have not gotten an invite yet, even though i was complete 7/27. 🙂

Hope you're right..since I submitted in early July..but knowing my application, it might be that they just passed me over.

Received an interview invite a few days ago (8/18). Secondary was complete 8/11. That seems really fast. Do they have an auto-interview system set up?

Do you mind posting your stats and EC's?

Hey I'm a little late in the game and just got their secondary...for the additional info essay would talking about living in Mexico with my grandmother for a few months and the experience there be appropriate???

Thanks and congratulations with those with interviews!!

This school is fast, I just got verified today submitted secondary yesterday and I am now complete! Other schools don't update daily so it is so annoying because I've had their secondary turned in for a while...

Here's to hoping for an interview!:xf:

Congrats dude! That was fast! I just got the completed email today and AMCAS had just received my LORs, so they do seem to update daily (unless I got lucky they were just updating that day..)

I hope I get the same turn around you did !

Is the Dartmouth Coach the only way to get to Logan Airport?

Is the Dartmouth Coach the only way to get to Logan Airport?

So there are a bunch of ways, but the Dartmouth coach is definitely the most convenient and comfortable.

Greyhound runs from white river junction (which is about five minutes away by a free bus service from dartmouth) to the south station at odd hours. You can then take the silverline directly to logan airport.

The amtrak also runs from white river junction and it will take you to springfield MA. You can ride the metrorail from springfield to boston.

Again, Dartmouth Coach is your best option since i) it runs pretty frequently ii) it runs directly from hanover to logan aiport and iii) the people on board the bus are classier than those on greyhound. you also don't have a fixed itinerary with Dartmouth Coach - once you buy a ticket you can use it whenever you want to.

Does anyone know the format of the Dartmouth interview? I understood there are two 30 minute sessions, but is it with an individual or a panel/ committee?
-thanks
