I don't think we were complaining... but you seem tense?

no, no i wasn't trying to reprimand you. I'm only saying you guys sounded as though you were getting impatient and I was trying to show you an example of someone who DID get an interview but had to wait 2 and a half months....so just sit back and don't think not hearing after a short amount of time means anything. in fact I'm taking this process way more relaxed than i thought i was going to and hopefully you guys are too 🙂 sorry for any misinterpretation.

^Sorry you got that feeling from our/my post(s). I was just trying to.. idk. Let other members know my status, to put myself out there, and to perhaps get feedback (like I recieved) about others experiences. Patiently waiting...for now. 😛.

Just got interviewed here ... STILL WAITING for my offer ! Just kidding.

One TRAVEL TIP: by all means do not fly in/out of the Lebanon airport. We had heavy rain today and all flights out of Lebanon got canceled, which really messed up the schedules of quite a few. Instead, just fly to Boston Logan, and take the Dartmouth Coach bus. The bus picks you up directly in front of Logan airport's terminal (where "scheduled bus" signs are), drops off you right on campus, and runs quite on time. Your interview day ends around 4pm; the last bus leaves at 5pm and arrives to Logan before 8pm, so you can certainly take a return flight departing from Logan after 8:30.

The school is fantastic and I highly recommend it, but I won't go into the details for now.

Hey Schlieren (or others),

I assume we use the Hanover stop for the Dartmouth coach (not the Lebanon one) right? And also, is the med campus adjacent to the undergrad (and other grad schools)? Thanks!

Do you mean to take the bus to Dartmouth the night before, spend the night, and then have the interview in the morning? I live in Boston and didn't know about this bus. This will save me a car ride to Dartmouth, thanks!!

Notice for those living in Boston that it also picks up at South Station--so no need to go to the airport unless you are traveling to Boston from out of town.

Highly recommend this bus service (although to be fair to the airport, the rain we experienced here the last 2 days wasn't a very good indication of normal weather!)

Also--the med school is right next to the undergraduate campus and the stop that is closest to the medical school is the one in Hanover (probably a 5-10 minute walk from the bus drop-off spot to where you would interview). If staying with a student host talk with them about which stop (Hanover or Lebanon) might be the most convenient to meet you.

Yeah.. the Hanover stop is on campus in front of the Hanover Inn, and 10-minute straightforward walk to the admissions office, but many students live in Lebanon and therefore near the Lebanon stop. They can easily pick you up from the Hanover Inn though. There are also many good restaurants, e.g. Molly's, near the Hanover Inn. And yes, there is a dedicated stop in the South Station. Note though that there is no ticket office in Boston so you shall order online and print out the ticket.

The hospital where you'll spend most of the 3rd and 4th yr is actually at an isolated location, and you need to take a shuttle (Blue line) from the main campus to reach there. I felt that the student tour of hospital is too brief, and I spent only 1.5 hours including lunch there because I have an early interview back at the main campus. So my recommendation is that if you arrive the day before, try take the shuttle to the hospital and take a self-guided tour of it. The hospital is much newer than the main campus building, and is very beautiful.

Oooh isolated hospital... that sounds like the perfect place to learn medicine (it sounds like that's sarcastic but it's completely not, one of my favorite things about this school).

By the way, does anyone know how DMS responds to "in the area" emails? I'm from California and will be in Boston for a health care symposium at the end of this month. I'm applying to med school on fee waivers, so any savings are huge for me. Oh and I submitted my secondary in the middle of August.

I submitted an "in the area letter" about a month ago and they could not do much. All they said was "we will put this letter in your file" - whatever that means.

I'm from Oregon and e-mailed a top 5 school to let them know I had a couple interviews nearby. The person responding was very nice and even held an interview slot open for me on my preferred travel day until they reviewed my file the following week. I waited to book my flights until I heard back and it worked out great!

I think the admissions people understand how expensive and time consuming it is to fly from the west coast out to the rest of the country. I doubt they will all be as accommodating as that school was, but even if they just put it in your file it sure couldn't hurt. BTW, when I first e-mailed that school I just said I wanted to let them know I would be out in their part of the country the week of xx/xx for some interviews in X and X cities. It was very short, polite and in no way pushy. Oh, and when I signed the e-mail I put my city, state and AMCAS # right underneath.

Good luck and I hope it works out.👍

How come this thread is so quiet? C'mon, we need more ppl to participate.

Anyways, I just interviewed here, (Sept 30) and I love the town and campus. :xf:Here's to hoping.

I'm so jealous! In a "good for you" sort of way haha. I love small towns (my hometown was very small) and can't imagine how that, combined with how amazing Dartmouth already seems...

Anyway, I wonder if it's quiet because there haven't been notifications? It's been a few weeks myself. When do they finish interviewing?

I just received an interview invite here--these guys definitely don't go in order. I was complete in mid July.

Grats on the interviews! 😀
Yeah--- this school seems awesome!
Unfortunately I haven't heard back about anything yet-- but I was complete in late September... so might be a while!

thanks, you might have to wait, or you might get an interview next week 🙂; I really dont think that dartmouth examines apps in the order applicants submitted them, since those receiving interviews seem to have no order based on the date the secondary was submitted.

probably quiet because in this case no news isn't good news; most of us are still impatiently waiting for the magic email

Hi all, I'm new to SDN (although I'll admit I lurked a little while before I joined).

I went to Dartmouth for undergrad and LOVED it. I'm interviewing at DMS at the end of the month, so I don't have any interview insight, but if anyone has any questions about Hanover or the campus or practical travel stuff, I'd be happy to answer!

For anyone interested (secondary submitted 7/16, complete: 8/3, interview invite 8/30). My GPA and MCAT are below average for DMS, but I have good ECs and was VERY active on campus as an undergrad.

I just received an interview invite last week. It's my first, and it was very exciting. I interview Dec. 9th. I really hope it goes well.

Congrats! Dartmouth was my first invite as well and I kept refreshing my email because I couldn't believe it lol...I actually still can't believe it but I am grateful 🙂
Good Luck!

Congratulations to you too! I actually checked the email right before my physiology test, and needless to say it was really hard to concentrate during the test. I had to have my buddy reread it, because I didn't think it was true.

Did anyone who did not apply to Darmouth get an email from them? I got this email from Dartmouth today and I didn't send them my primary:

"When you registered for the MCAT examination, you were given the opportunity to have your name and address supplied to American medical schools as part of the "Med-MAR Registry." The registry is a service of the Association of American Medical Schools (AAMC) designed to identify minority and/or disadvantaged students interested in applying for medical school admission. The AAMC recently shared the registry, including your name and address, with me."

Does this mean if I apply I'm guaranteed acceptance??? Or do they just send out this email in random.

NOTHING guarantees you acceptance. this is an automated email to get people to apply to their school that may not have already. it's just an advertisement for the school for you to spend your money applying there. you would have the same chance as everyone else, possibly a little lower since it is now later in the cycle.

aww 🙁 that sucks

Lol sorry I had to answer this... No. You are not guaranteed acceptance. You signed up for this when you took the MCAT and are now part of a registry that schools use to find URM's and disadvantaged students- you will probably receive brochures and emails from lots of schools. They are just welcoming you to apply in order to recruit URM's/disadvantaged applicants in an attempt to increase the diversity of their class.

The question I originally wanted to answer: we found out last year that "no news is good news" from Dartmouth. They interview until March I think. Last year, I sent back the secondary on the first day possible and didn't interview until February (invited in January), and was subsequently accepted ~2 weeks later. Ended up in Texas for financial and other reasons- but I LOVED Dartmouth. It was an awesome school and place in every way.

So, sorry to encroach on your thread 🙂 just wanted to share with all of you waiting what I learned last cycle.

Thanks for the heads-up. Do you know if Dartmouth sends rejections earlier in the season or do they wait until the spring?

I seem to remember rejections were kind of sent in a trickle throughout the cycle, and if you hadn't been invited to interview yet, the longer you didn't hear the better. I kind of thought about it like my application was going through successive rounds of evaluation and kept surviving... no idea if that's how it happens but it would make sense.

Does anyone (physicsnerd?) know how Dartmouth will be communicating post-interview decisions this year? Is it still by snail mail? Thanks!

for anyone who received an interview recently, could you please please post when you were complete? 🙂

Wow. Thanks for the hope. Always happy to hear from those who have been there.

Hey guys, I interviewed there in mid-September. I also felt like the hospital tour was a little short. However, I was lucky enough to have my interviewer offer to show me the skills simulation center. I definitely recommend you guys to try checking it out if you can. Unfortunately, you have to have a guide to bring you in there. That being said, the school was beautiful.

Does DMS offer student hosting? I would rather not spend money on a hotel if I can help it... though more likely, I would wake up really early and drive from Boston to Dartmouth.

Yes, Dartmouth does offer student hosting. You contact the students directly, there should be instructions in one of the attachments sent with the interview invite.

Also, some of the local hotels have special rates if you tell them you're interviewing. I'm pretty sure both the Hanover Inn and the Marriott have special DMS interview rates.

In the past, acceptances have all been by snail mail because the admissions staff likes to include hand written notes. Now that the app process is completely online that may change, but I doubt it. Acceptances post-waitlist are typically phone calls (because the offers are time sensitive). I am unsure but I assume that waitlists and rejections would also be snail mail. If I get a chance to drop by the admissions office over the next couple of days I can ask and get back to you.

I'd do the hosting. You'll get to know the students on a more informal level and the price is right. That being said, it's about a two hour drive from Boston if there's no traffic. There shouldn't be too much traffic heading out of Boston in the morning but I'd give yourself some extra time if that's the way you decide to go.

Hi! Is anyone interviewing on the 28th of October and thinking of driving up/back down on the 27th from Boston and back on the evening of the 28th? Would you be interested in taking one more person who'd split the cost?

If someone is, would you be able to PM me? (Or reply to this thread). I would take the Dartmouth Coach, but I want to be back earlier on the 28th (leave at 4:30 and be back around 6:30) rather than 8pm (if I take the Dartmouth Coach at 5pm).

Alternatively, I am also thinking of renting ZipCar, and driving up and would be interested if someone would join to help with the cost!

Rejected 🙁 Oh, well. No big surprise.

31S/3.35/OOS, complete 7/15.

Finally some news... REJECTED 🙁 OOS/31Q/~3.7
Really no big surprise here

Anyone call/know if they started snail mailing acceptances yet?

Joining the misery party here. Rejected today 36/3.33 OOS. Complete 7/15

so, I was complete on July 14th, and I haven't gotten rejected yet, but haven't heard anything else really...

does anyone have any insight as to what that may mean?

I feel like the Dean of Admissions said that the committee was pretty conservative in giving acceptances this early in the cycle. I interviewed in late September, and he told us to not expect anything before late December (at the earliest!)
Hope that helps some people.

Received acceptance letter in the mail today. Interviewed very early September. OOS, 38/3.9

Just got an acceptance!!!! OMG. Interviewed Early September!!

Update: Letter postmarked October 15th.
