Hi friends, I am applying to Duke-NUS for 2011 intake too. Where did you guys send the university results/transcripts to? Is it the same address to Dr. Craig R Stenberg as the reccomendation letters? Or do we not have to send our transcript? 😕

Do we need A levels results too?

Yes, we need to send the transcript to:

Dr Craig Stenberg, Associate Dean (Student Affairs & Admissions)
c/o Ms Tammie Zhu, Assistant Admissions Manager
Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore
Admissions Department
8 College Road
Singapore 169857.

Hello everyone.

I've applied for the 2011 intake as well. May i know how are the applicant days? And how often does the applicant days occur?

Hey, I have some queries:

How many applicants are there on an Applicant Day?

When/how do we apply for bursary? Do you guys do that on Applicant Day too?

I am actually wondering if the number of applicants is dwindling. It may be one of the reasons they refuse to tell us the statistics.

Also, they seem to be interviewing every single applicant (even though they claim to have some shortlisting procedure in place) because, as far as I know, no one has ever been rejected outright without interview. Just saying.

I believe the early acceptance emails have been sent out already. Unfortunately I'm not one of them =( Hopefully I'll hear something positive from them soon!

yup i think the early acceptance mails have been sent out too.
received an email this morning stating that they've accepted a selected number of the strongest candidates only, and that my application is still in active review.

i wonder how long they'll keep reviewing me for!

I also got the same email. I wonder how many did they accept for the early acceptance round. And now is another few months of waiting again...

What sort of trouble? Maybe you can try switching your browser. I can't remember as I submitted my application quite some time back, but I might have met some trouble with firefox and when I switched to IE it's fine.

I think the number of applicants vary on each Applicant Day but it's somewhere between 10+ to a max of around 20 for Singapore interviews. I don't know much about interviews in the US but someone did mention in an earlier post there were only 8 applicants.

The school will send you an invitation to apply for the bursary very soon after you attend the Applicant Day, around 1 week. And it's all done online. In case you were wondering, it's not an indication of how good your chances are because everyone will get the invitation as long as they attended the interview.

Cheers!

Invited to interview on 16 December. Any one from this batch too?🙂

Icic. Wishing you all the best Fizban! Im also still waiting

Hey! How was interview yesterday?

It was definitely very exciting. Impressed by many talented applicants.
The faculty are very friendly and the teamLEAD session is engaging.
A staff told me that the results may be released in February.

Let's keep our fingers crossed and wait for the letters!:xf:

Have fun, funsmith!

Just wondering why there are so few Applicant Days this time round, like one per month?

So far, we only know there were/will be one on 1 October (?), 25 November (SG), 16 December (SG), 5 January (US), 11 January (?).

Do remember the 23 september batch for the early intake people

Hey guys,

My first post on SDN! I too have been invited for an interview on January 5th in San Fran. I applied on Dec. 1st (last minute possible, i know 😳), and got invited for an interview the following week, which was pretty fast!

From what I know, they also have an interview date on January 4th in San Fran as well as several dates in March. It would be nice to know just how many applicants they receive and how selective they are in offering interview invitations. If they're interviewing most applicants, it could mean applicant numbers are dwindling.

Look forward to seeing those who are coming out on the 5th! My first trip to San Fran 🙂!

How do you guys think of NUS & DUKE's SECOND PHASE OF COLLABORATION IN MEDICAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH?

I won't be surprised if the number is dwindling, especially the applicants in US since the economy isn't getting any better right now. Having said that, it seems like their past cohorts have been pretty stellar and I don't think NUS/Duke will run a diploma mill and blemish their reputation. It's not like they desperately need money like the Aussie schools - if they are, they would have asked for some insane tuition fees.

2011 is coming! Wish every Duke-NUS applicant has a happy, inspiring, colorful, successful and prosperous new year!
Hope our dream of becoming a doctor finally come ture in 2011!
:luck::luck::luck::luck::luck:

Happy New Year to all future duke-nus students!!

I hope everyone will ace their interviews 😛

God Speed!

The question is whether it would be sustainable. It might not be apparent for Duke-NUS now, but all joint programmes have the inherent risk of de-merging don't they? Also, I am getting the impression that the quality of its subsequent cohorts seems to have reduced compared to its very first one, but that is just a personal observation.

I wouldn't say quality of the cohorts would be reduced since none of us would know unless you got some inside news =) The international number of applicants might be dwindling, but the local number is probably increasing since it is the next best option for Singaporeans if they wish to practice in their country but couldn't get into NUS MBBS, which is ridiculously competitive. So, perhaps the future cohorts will be less diverse, but I'm not sure if they will be less qualified.

I do not know whether the international number of applicants is dwindling, but from my obersvation, quite a number of international applicants were interviewed or are going to be interviewed.

Since Duke and NUS has agreed to begin second phase of medical education and research collaboration (reference: http://newshub.nus.edu.sg/headlines/1210/duke_01Dec10.php), I believe their previous collaboration are quite successfully and pleasant.

As this second phase collaboration will definitely further strengthen duke-nus' capacity both in education and research, I am optimistic about the quality of the MD program offered by duke-nus.

I agree, duke-nus is not the ordinary medical school that only trains MDs, but with an emphasis on clinician scientists. Personally, I really like this approach and seeing how much money the Singapore government has invested in this new school/program. It will just get better and better. They didn't just build this brand new school several years ago for no reason. I am sure they have a big plan for this institution.

Yes, the Singapore government plans to make the country the biomedical hub of asia, and the establishment of duke-nus is an important part of the plan.

Just got back from the Jan. 5th applicant day in San Fran. Very nice overall experience and they made a good impression. Good candidates as well. One 1st year student from Duke-NUS even served as an interviewer. He was outstanding and of high caliber. I'm convinced the school has no problem attracting top students and top faculty! In fact, the Duke-NUS curriculum is supposedly much harder than top medschools in the US and this reflects the caliber of students they enrol. There was a grad from UCSF medschool who did a teaching stint at Duke-NUS last year and said their curriculum is second to none.

My question (I didn't get a chance to ask at applicant day), anyone know if they offer full scholarships for international students? Or at least one that covers 80+% of your tuition costs over the 4 years?

Acceptance decisions will be made towards the end of March/April apparently, for those who were wondering.

I assume you applied to the MD program? From what I know, with scholarships + bursaries + loans, it can cover up to 90% of your tuition :meanie:
