Officially confirmed my withdrawal from the Indy campus... Best of luck to everyone!

btricycle, I wouldn't worry yet. They have until June 1st to let people know. I know of people last year who didn't get on the waitlist until the last week in May. As for acceptance, the class is full so they aren't accepting anyone else. As for us waitlisters, we can't get too excited about the people withdrawing. IU accepts more than the 328 student class. Therefore, the people withdrawing are bringing IU closer to the 328 they are aiming for. But don't lose faith, hopefully they will start pulling people off the waitlist by late June. That's when they started last year. This process is killing me, can't wait for this to be over!
One didnt hear until end of may and she got an e-mail rejecting her. However, she was out of state. So she moved to Indy and got accepted this year! The other didn't hear until May 24th and she got accepted to the Northwest campus on July 23rd. The thought about people hearing about waitlist early being placed early is not true. We are not ranked. The waitlist acceptance process is the same as the normal acceptance process. The commitee talks about us and reveiws us and places people to fill the withdrawn spots. This is just my knowledge from previous applicants and from the 2015 IUSM facebook group. So technically, all waitlisters have an even chance. So again, don't lose hope. As of last year people were taken off the waitlist at the end of June, beginning of July and end of July. There were one or 2 that got Indy at the beginning or July. Some people lsat year got worried that they weren't being pulled off the waitlist at the end of May. People thought that since the deadline for students to decide was May 15, then schools would go to the waitlist. However, since schools over accept it doesn't quite work that way. I'm trying not to worry/think about being pulled off the waitlist until the end of June. I'm assuming if I haven't heard by Aug, to give up haha. So far withdraw total I know about is 5. Let's keep em coming. 🙂
Hey guys,
I was wondering if there was any correlation between when people applied and when they got their interviews. Was applying to IUSM by mid October too late for an acceptance considering average stats?
Could the people who made it on to the waitlist please share their stats and when they applied and got interviews? Its really difficult to guage who IUSM accepts and at what time. I'm sure interviews play a big role too.
Thanks!
It doesn't matter unless you did early decision. I applied Oct, interviewed Jan and was waitlisted in May. Timing of turning in your app doesn't matter as long as it was before the dead line. I think Early Decision people kind of have a leg up, but I'm not positive.
The only problem is that I am taking the August 23 MCAT, which means my scores aren't available until late September. Would you guys suggest that I apply before receiving my scores? I do know that the committee doesn't look at the app until everything is available so perhaps it would only be beneficial since the verification process would be complete and the app can move forward as soon as the mcat score comes in. I definitely want to apply this cycle. I'm taking my time with the mcat so i can do as well as possible the first time, since my gpa is a little below avg. I know that ideal time to have everything in is by late july. I just don't know what should be done in my situation. There probably is a higher rate of acceptance for earlier interview dates/application submission with average scores.
Appreciate any advice/ input!!!
Besides the time spent on the personal statement, how long did it take for you guys to complete the app? Does IUSM have secondaries or anything else after the primary app? I will probably just list IU when I apply, and then add other schools later after getting the score. Could that work?
Thanks!!!
Thanks so much for the info! Really appreciate it! What other schools did everyone apply to? I have below avg. gpa and am instate, so IU seems like the best shot. Hoping to get a 30+ mcat.
Any other suggestions? Goal is to apply by the end of June. Hopefully will have started on AAMCs by then. Still have to write the PS. It would help if you guys could offer some PS tips or what worked well when you got to the interview stage.
Good Luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear back from IU!
Found out yesterday, Indy campus. I really hope those of you waiting get good news!
And so the waiting continues. Again, how were people notified that just found out? When they say we will be notified by June 1 does that mean a letter could be sent on June 1 or WE WILL KNOW SOMETHING by June 1?
I think this is correct but I also think they consider "You are waitlisted" to be a decision. The e-mail that was received after the file was complete stated, " Everyone will receive a decision by June 1". My interpretation of that is that you will know something by June 1st because you will have received it by then.

accepted off the waitlist a few days ago. haven't seen the letter yet because i'm on vacation in mexico but got an email from financial aid congratulating me on my acceptance. i called the admissions office the next morning to confirm and they told me i was placed at the bloomington campus. it was the middle of the road choice for me but i'm trying to stay positive. i've just never been there and know nothing about that campus, so let me know if you all have any information! i'm just super pumped i got accepted - especially with my mcat score and especially off the waitlist so soon! good luck to all those still waiting!
Do you mind sharing your mcat score and gpa. i had a mcat 27 Q and gpa 3.61, science gpa 3.59
During my admissions appointment they said I prob won't get pulled off the waitlist b/c my mcat is too low. Since you made a comment about your mcat I was just wondering what your stats were. I'd really appreciate it.
Could people who got in please share their gpa, mcat and when they submitted their application? It would be very helpful!
Agree to disagree. GPA and MCAT are 80% of the equation. Having a 27 and 3.5 all but eliminates you, while a 30 and 3.9 almost guarantees you a spot. Its the most accurate predictor of where everyone stands at this point, assuming you didn't fall asleep during the interview.

I think we are on the same page. I completely understand that an application "full of experiences" is desirable. Congrats on getting accepted. I <3 Magic...and Equations.I would have to disagree. I am a very strong believer that as much as the school wishes to "keep its numbers up", they are also becoming more and more aware of the fact that good "numbers" does not always produce a good physician. I was accepted with a 28 MCAT and a 3.5 GPA. The rest of my application was full of experiences (study abroad, medical missions trips, personal world travels 🙂), and a well written personal statement that altogether, I believe helped set me apart from the rest. I am not saying that MCAT scores and GPA do not matter, I am only stating that from what I have observed in my case, and in the case of many of my friends, there is more to the decision than some magic "equation".
