November 1st small pool, no invite...judging by the timing of other people's small pools there still might be hope :xf:

Thanks... I think they may have taken some pity on my application because they never sent me a secondary (I had to call them to ask about it) and then there were some problems with LORs. oh well... I'll take it

Bummer, looks like i've been skipped over. I've heard that MCW favors MCATs with at least 10-10-10 across the board, anyone know how true that is? I feel like that might be why i keep getting passed over 🙁

I was a 8/23 small pool, and no invite today. Sigh I guess I was passed over as well. I do have a 9 in verbal if that means anything.

Hmmm...I have an 11/10/11 and have been pooled since 8/23 and still no word.

I've been small pooled since 11/10, which isn't as long as some of the other people, but no invite today for me. MCAT is 9P 11V 13B, so maybe they skipped me over because of the 9.

The school average is 30/31, so they are looking for double digit scores. However, there is no rule about 10/10/10.

Congratulations and thanks so much to all those folks sharing about their invites. I have 10-10-10R and that didn't help me, in the small pool since 9/29. My fingers are crossed for those of us passed over - maybe there will be some cancellations or withdrawals that get us an invite this month still.

Small pooled on 9/29, IS, 3.96 at UW, 35P MCAT, noooo invite..Really would like to go here too

Try to stay positive everyone. I got in with an "8" so you all are in solid positions on that front. It's still too early in the cycle to worry about all that yet. Remember, this whole application thing is a marathon!

I have been looking at some of the most recent posts and I thought I would share my opinion on the matter of MCAT scores for MCW as I have had A LOT of correspondance with Michael Istwan (director of admissions) on the matter. In point of fact, he was the main reason I retook the MCAT.

I received an interview and acceptance from MCW with a 37R. However, I sat next to a guy at my interview who had a 27 (I see no reason he would have lied, so let's assume it's true). The very best he could have done was 9's across the board. Since he made it to the interview I was no more competitive than he was at that point. There is not really any fast and hard rule about MCAT and GPA's except the adcom is wary about 8's (but clearly this won't prevent an interview as JustforKicks4 has shown) on the MCAT, and any score below an 8 will get you tossed pretty much outright regardless of the other 3 scores. I know it's hard but you guys need to look less objectively about previous year's stats because they tell you nothing about the other major qualities of those accepted.

Competitiveness fluctuates yearly which obscures things further for those trying to guess why they haven't heard anything yet. Believe me I know it seems easy for me to say now, but I really want everyone to get what they have worked so hard for, but don't beat yourselves over the head with stats and predictions!

Best of luck!

I'm in the same boat. I'm in the 8/23 small pool, no invite yet either 🙁. They invite you by email, correct?

Stats: 3.99cGPA / 4.0sGPA / 28M (9-9-10) / OOS

Well it's still an average, so people have gotten in with less than 30/31 and of course more. Surely people have gotten in without all 10s across the board.

Yup, exactly my point. It's hard to say a school is very specific about 10/10/10 when the average is 30/31. Some people have to have less than a 30, so they can't have straight tens.

So I believe I have been complete here since July 15th. I was never small-pooled, but I have not yet been rejected. Is anyone else in this situation? Should I contact the school to verify that my file is complete?

Recieved the email this morning:

Dear Candidate: Congratulations. The Admissions Committee would like to offer you a space in the entering class of 2011 at the Medical College of Wisconsin. An acceptance packet will be mailed to you today.

Again, congratulations and welcome to MCW.

Have a great holiday.

I will probably not be matriculating here, so this congratulations email will probably go to one of you! Good luck, and I hope it finds someone who really has been wanting it.

Also accepted this morning 🙂

Has anyone received an recent interview.. Small pooled oct. 15th and still no word... getting a little anxious

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be interviewing at MCW in a few weeks, and have been perusing the forum .. major thank you to everyone who's left some feedback about your experiences .. its definitely helped 🙂

A lot of people have said the interviews were conversational and laidback, but I'm wondering if anyone can offer a more specific idea of what kind of things you generally discuss? Is it mainly just your application or other topics as well? Anyone have a negative experience with an interviewer? I'm sooper nervous and would appreciate any help!

Thanks in advance!

Okay, first off I really want to stress (now having had all of my interviews and having spoke to several interviewees) that it is virtually a myth that any particular school has a clear and definite reputation as to the nature of their interviews (e.g. types of questions asked etc.). You ask around enough you'll find people completely unhappy with their interview just to find someone else who loved it at the University of Wherethehellever. Case in point: I interviewed at MCW. If you asked me how the interview was I would say it went really well, however, it wasn't laid back really. I was very well prepared which is why I was very happy with it, but it was much less laid back than several of the other applicant's interviews that day and certainly less than some of my other interviews. If I had the same interview a few months previous it may have not went so hot. The faculty interviewer had a very detailed and bullet-pointed list of questions (about 80% derived from my AMCAS). So long (and detailed) that we didn't have time for all of them. Conversely, at U of Wisconsin I was asked very open-ended questions about my family and other no-brainer topics (not even why do I want to be a doctor).

I would not just go around though and say MCW has more intense interviews and UW is a breeze. You need to remember that tons of people volunteer to give interviews and they will spend varying amounts of time reviewing and memorizing your AMCAS activities/experiences. The biggest thing you can do to prepare regardless of how many people swear "it was my easiest interview) is know your AMCAS and PS very well and be able to riff on why those things were important and relate to your desire/preparedness to be a doctor etc. However, no matter how hard you prepare you may have to field gems in the vein of some of the following I've heard personally (I'm sure there's way better ones out there!):

1) You have your lights in your house set to go on at 5am and off by 10pm by a timer. You arrive home at 5pm and your lights are off. Give 5 reasons why this may have occurred.

2) There is a book titled C.U.R.E. (I can't remember what the letters stood for, but it was a book about medicine) if you could replace any of the words, without changing the acronym, and keeping with the theme of the book, which word would you change and why?

3) Relay something you have read recently from a book that was meaningful to you and why?

4) I see you retook your MCAT and improved upon an already competitive score...are you OCD? Do you always have to be in the top 10% of your class? (this one reallllly caught me off gaurd).

Just remember: your ability to think on the spot and produce thoughtful answers is very valuable. But don't be afraid to TAKE YOUR TIME. Don't worry, it's not your MCAT

Best of luck! I'm sure you'll enjoy the school a lot.

I decided not to schedule an interview here. Hopefully one of you guys gets my spot.

Thanks a lot phylum! Really appreciate the help!

Can anyone else offer an idea about the types of questions/difficultly level at their interview? Thanks a million!

I thought the "Interview Feedback" page was pretty accurate of my interviews. MCW prides itself on not trying to pimp its interviewees, so just know your AMCAS info. and read up on current events and you should be more than fine!

My experience pretty much bears this out. I went in not knowing what to expect and was a little apprehensive because of this, but there was no need to worry in retrospect. Both of my interviews were very conversational and friendly in style. I wasn't thrown any curveballs or anything out of the ordinary. I did get one "discuss an ethical issue you faced" question, but I'm certain you've encountered questions like that on other schools' secondaries. But phylumchordata is entirely correct that your experience may vary.

My advice is pretty applicable to any interview situation, med school or not: don't psych yourself out. You are the most qualified person to talk about yourself. Relax, and have fun. 🙂

Has anyone rescheduled their interview and knows how receptive the Admissions Office is to doing this? I waited until the last minute to book a flight and they are SUPER expensive. 😱

Received an interview invite this morning!! Very excited! I believe the email mentioned Feb. 4th as the date. It's a bit late and I'm feeling a bit lazy but I can look up when I got small-pooled and post back tomorrow! Hope others got invites today as well! 🙂

this was probably asked before, but does anyone know what the dress code is for the reception the night before?

Definitely casual dress for this event. You will not be out of place in a T-shirt and jeans. Wear a coat though....it is February in Wisconsin after all. 🙂

January* but you're right. I checked the weather...its going to be FRIGID! I was born on the equator dammit! lol. I'm still super excited! MCW seems amazing. Rivaling UVM for my top choice depending on how the visit goes 🙂

I was accepted to MCW in November.
Is anyone else, who is accepted, getting a request for a criminal background check??
I got a cryptic message from the AAMC asking for consent for a check and I can't tell which school is asking for this check, though it is probably MCW, which is great!
Obviously I applied to other schools too and have been WL at a few places, so I'm just checking it out. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Haha, I came here for the very same reason! I was kind of hoping that it was some other schools that I've interviewed at, but it's probably MCW.

Thanks for responding. I love MCW, so that's cool, but the whole game ain't over yet........just gotta wait and see I guess 👍

So close, and yet so far away. 🙂 Don't forget to enjoy this time before then, though!

Great advice 👍 Right now, I'm in a "so far away" mode 🙂
but thanks for the reminder.

Hey guys! Does anyone know if there is any on-campus housing? I don't see anything about it on the website or the handbook they gave us, but I thought I'd ask just to make sure I didn't miss it anywhere. Thanks!
