I was really excited to get accepted to Stony Brook, yay!! But I've never taken biochem before and they strongly recommend taking it, they even made a point of this in the acceptance packet. Does anyone have any advice on this, could I get by with just getting a text book and reading it myself?
You don't have to do that. If they already accepted you, why do you care? Biochem is not THAT important for medical school.
They told our interview group that it could take a highly variable amount of time. The numbers were something like anywhere from 2 weeks to 10 weeks. So I would say that's normal. It seems like a couple of people who got acceptances received their packages in about 2 weeks. Is that normal? Because they told us 4 to 8 weeks and I haven't heard anything yet =\
is anyone interviewing between dec 18 and jan 25 thinking of rescheduliing/cancelling their interview date. I was originally up for 12/9 but had to postpone it and it went all teh way to jan 25! so if you are planning to reschedule/cancel please let me knowwww! thanks
Accepted today!!! On cloud 9...interview 11/15
I interviewed the day after you.. I hope I have a package waiting for me at home!!

Accepted!
I'm very excited about this school (probably my top choice) but I'm just not sure if I'm ready to make a decision just yet. The acceptance package said I need to compile a letter of intent that I will attend Stony Brook, along with a deposit. Is this any different than other schools' acceptances that you're allowed to hold until May? Or is this actually committing to Stony Brook?
It's just like every other acceptance.
So do we have to send the letter of intent right away or can we wait till May? Do all schools do this? What if we love Stony Brook but still are "curious" about other schools? And how binding is the letter of intent?
Sorry if they are stupid questions (still awaiting my first acceptance!!)
I've been complete since the first week of August and still no word... Anyone else in the same boat? I think I definitely got looked over 🙁
I had my interview at Stony Brook 6 weeks ago, and still haven't heard anything back yet. Has anybody had a similar experience?

Actually I screwed up the date, interviewed 11/16, so I suppose we interviewed the same day. I hope that package is waiting for you too...best of luck!
It came a week later than yours but I'm not complaining!!
PS. What are you supposed to write in your "intention to enroll" letter?
Accepted on Thursday 🙂. Had a letter waiting for me 1 week after my interview.
yea stonybrook does grade on a curve, starting in second year. I interviewed there yesterday and the students who gave the tour told us that things get a bit more competitive when 2nd year starts, and courses are graded on a curve so that only a certain number can get high passes, etc.
Interesting...thanks for the info. I would prefer they didn't, but what are you gonna do.
Any current SB students reading this page? I was wondering about some of the more minute details of SB that weren't covered during the interview and tour. How do you like the community at SB? Is it competitive? What days are exams on? Are there good/comfortable/productive study areas? What neighborhood or town do most med students live in? And any other everyday stuff like that...Thanks for any input
ya only your first 2 classes (biochem and anatomy) are not graded on a curve. for my year (2013), biochem honors = 89, anatomy honors = 85. which are very doable. many people honor these two classes. after that every class is graded on a curve. generally Honor = 1 STD above mean, and high pass = half STD above mean. but some classes have more generous curves. pretty much everybody passes every class.
Any updates recently?
I'd love to hear back, so I can save money by canceling a future interview.
Why's this thread so much slower than threads made in the past?
