Maybe they'll make calls this Tuesday too? Come on Drew, you're killing me!!!

I think it's back to the waiting game....remember what Conchita said about second look....it's in a month......I would assume that all of the admissions made so far would have been announced in one or two days......let's just hang in there.......

Thanks for responses. If you do this program, is it likely you can only do Primary Care Residencies? Or do some peeps match into Surgical/Specialize as well?

The students at Drew go into a variety of residencies!

I was looking at the matches made at some schools, and I asked why most of the matches were for internal medicine.....they told me that it is self selecting, and students tend to gravitate more towards internals and peds....if you want to be a surgeon, it is your call, so don't worry (unless you want to go into a super uber competitive program). I've also heard that it takes a very specific type of person to be a surgeon and that a lot of people just fall in love with other specialties during their 4 years in medschool.....

Thanks guys...is the school itself well regarded amongst residency programs? I mean I know it is "linked" with UCLA, but the actual Drew Hospital has had a very bad reputation based on what I have heard from the Physicians I work with. I know the hospital and school are two completely different things, but I just want to make sure that the reputation may spread.

As of right now, I am interested in primary care, but I also like some aspects of surgery. I know it is all going to boil down to performance on Step 1 and school performance, I just want to be sure that I will get a good base if I attend CDU in terms of training, faciliities, etc.

Ultimately, my goal is to work with underserved individuals which is why this program appeals to me so much.

BTW, I have looked at the typical students and most seem to be URM....I am of South Asian descent but I have a strong background working with the local poor patient population.

Sorry if these questions are a bit elementary! 🙂 Good luck all! :luck:

We're very similar so let me give you my impressions. I too am very interested in primary care and southeast asian. I've worked with one of Drew's underserved communities my whole life - Long Beach.

From visiting other schools, I can safely say that if you are truly committed to working with LA's underserved, there is absolutely no better program. Drew gives you the opportunity to rotate in and work with this population throughout your 4 years of med school. I personally know many graduates of Drew - all of whom went on to work go in LA/LBC.

Drew is well respected. It's on the same level, if not higher, than UCLA. The students refer to themselves as "DRUINS" and other students consider them almost an honors program. Their averages are HIGHER, yes, HIGHER than UCLA's standard med program. You are educated at UCLA and rotate at Olive, Harbor and St. Mary's - all hospitals I am familiar with and know do wonders for the underserved. Other than the opportunity to work for the underserved, these rotations also provide a more hands on experience. Over the winter break, I had the privilege of doing one of the rotations available to current students and saw just how hands on and engaging the experience was. And that was with the doctor limiting me cause he knew I wasn't a full fledged medical student yet. Talking to students, and from experience of my other family members, the diversity of patients in these rotations trains you to become a more well-rounded and compassionate physician. Especially, if you want to work in underserved LA, Drew students would usually be favored over standard UCLA (assuming scores and other factors are the same). My father, a PCP, makes a conscious effort to hire physicians who graduate from Drew. He calls them a package deal cause they usually come with better people skills and abilities to speak other languages and adapt to different situations. Finally keep in mind that with attending Drew you have the resources of both UCLA and CDU at your disposal.

With all that I said, it explains why I would give an arm and a leg and my firstborn to attend CDU.
Hopefully, this helped and wasn't an incoherent rant.

USCTrojan11, you explained the program wonderfully!:claps: ...all the reasons why I feel it's the perfect program for me! I have not been invited to interview and probably will not (was told file was with committee in mid Jan, but haven't heard back from school yet), but I hope you get in (and get to keep your arm, leg, and firstborn intact )! You sound like the kind of colleague I want to work with, so :luck:!

Just wondering if anyone knows how many interview dates there have been this cycle, and when the interview season ends.

Hey Guys,

Just found this thread. I recently interviewed at CDU/UCLA. Do any of you guys know if they happen to notify applicants of acceptance based on the block they interviewed in?

Thank A Bunch...Feeling a bit anxious to hear any news at all.

I did interview, back in December. Was just trying to get an idea of how many people they have interviewed so far... And I know. I'm so jealous of you.

I heard there has been at least 4-5 rounds of interviews. Not sure if they are looking to have anymore.

Thanks I appreciate that. Hopefully I'll hear from my dream school soon. I've been having dreams about CDU for the last 2 months. It's killing me haha

Hi Everyone!

I'm withdrawing from the CDU program because I was accepted into the PRIME/CDU...so I will still be part of the incoming CDU class but with Prime class.
See you at second look! 🙂

Thanks Conchita! 🙂. If I don't get into Drew or Prime, I'm off to UW. I'd rather stay here...ahh!!!

Lol, I screwed it up twice! It isn't easy posting on SDN using a touch screen phone while driving.

I just want to know already! Please Drew...if you let me know I can move on with my life! This school is pretty much the only school I care about at this point. +pissed+

Lol. I know the feeling! :luck:

Well, I hope you get into CDU (my dream med prog too) Esteban. If not, I'll probably see you at UW (top acceptance thus far)!

So on the status page, I think the programmer meant to write "4 to 6 months", but accidentally typed weeks. It all makes sense now! 🙄

is it really running on 6 months? I'm going to snap any day now.....:boom:

It's been four months since I submitted my secondary, and I've heard nothing. Are they still giving out interview invites?

I'm not positive about this, but I assume that it is a bit late for more invites. Sorry. 🙁

I saw Sandy at the LMSA Conference at UCI today. Apparently the class is 1/3 full and they are looking to make their selection by 4/15/11. The files are with UCLA now. Some of the students there said that they weren't accepted until May.

Thanks for the updates man! Hopefully there's news this week.

acceptances are going out now.........I managed to get one........good luck guys!!

Congratulations! When did you interview? I was there in December.

Accepted yesterday!! I'm so excited! I interviewed in January.

Congratulations to those accepted!!! What an awesome feeling 🙂

For those waiting to hear for interview invites, guess what? There's still one more interview date! Yay! And the invitations for that haven't gone out yet! So let's not lose faith! 👍

I hope to get invited and join the pool of accepted students 😉 :xf:

So that probably means more waiting for those of us who have interviewed! Sweet, MORE waiting...👎

Don't give up hope bro. Also, who is going to second look weekend? It's Friday I believe? Do you think they'll have a full class by then?

Serious?? Just made my day 👍

Don't want to have false hopes but that's pretty cool to know!

Congrats to those accepted!

Yup, I talked to Sandy today 🙂:xf:

No... just when I was all set, UCLA/CDU decides to offer another interview date? Pick me! I waited over half-a-year now since submitting my secondary application. Doesn't that count for something?! 😉

Second lookers, did they provide any information regarding number of spots available or anything else that may be of interest to those of us waiting? Thanks.

I interviewed back in October and I'm still waiting to hear back. I'm starting to lose hope now :-/

sorry, nothing was mentioned regarding number of spots. not all 24 people were there, partly because some who were accepted were at a different second look. we did ice breakers and were shown the simulation center. we also tried on white coats for sizes, given the CDU pin 🙂, and other CDU things. overall, i personally had a great time meeting people, and felt the community even the next day at the Geffen second look.

+1

For those still waiting, the last day of interviews is tomorrow 🙁 Good-bye last chance to land a spot at UCD! :luck: to those that interviewed and I hope the rest got a spot elsewhere!

Sorry about CDU not working out for you. 🙁. I've lost hope myself- interviewed in December.

The area around Drew is very dangerous so I have heard, is there any type of protection for the students on campus and at the MLK hospital?

Everyone always says how bad the Compton and Watt's area is and tells me that at night it is okay to even go through red lights as it is the type of area you would want to avoid. Is this really true or is it just a big exaggeration? I would ultimately like to come and raise my family near where I do the rotations.
