Got my letter! OOS waitlist #11...I guess that is better than a rejection 🙂, I am hoping that they didn't over accept by that many people for OOS...does anyone have an idea of just how many OOS people did they over accept this year?

reeeejjjjjeccctttteeeeeddddd via snail mail. I am a West Coaster.

this may be confusing considering my name (I lived there when I created it), but I'm in Chicago and I still didn't get anything.

Thanks Guys....I'm glad that I'm not the only one....good luck to you guys for tomorrow.

For those waiting for the mail:
My letter was delivered to a rural area in AZ - mail takes an extra day to get there, so usually I'm the last one to hear anything... odd that I received the news so quickly. I'm sure everyone waiting will hear back tomorrow 🙂

So I am OOS waitlisted number 61. A friend of mine was >100 and asked the admissions office what his chances were. Apparently in the 2 out of the last 5 years, they reached number 105 on the OOS waitlist. So don't lose hope!

FINALLY got my letter! Top 10 on the OOS wait list....that was a long wait.

Rejected 🙁 I really liked Iowa and would've loved to go there but oh well... (I hope I don't come off as a show-off or anything like that) but I do have a couple of other acceptances that I am pretty happy about so it's totally not the end of the world... Congrats to those who got accepted or on the waitlist... to my fellow rejects, I wish you all the best in the future. I am a student 2 years removed from college who got accepted so if ya'll need anything for future apps or what I did, don't hesitate to ask...

Wow I wonder how far they'll get this year! I'm number 44... You'd think they would be fairly consistent every year with the number of people they take off the WL?

Well I don't think that it's they take 100 people off the waitlist. I think they send out the waitlist notifications. Then a bunch of people remove themselves from the waitlist. So now you've moved from 100 to 50. Then May 15 comes along and a bunch of people drop their positions and suddenly you're at 20.

In reality, they probably invite very few people off the waitlist. It's just the people that do take the offers ORIGINALLY had numbers 5, 23, 35, 42, etc. etc. until you reach 100.

Granted I really have no idea, and that's just my opinion hahah

I've been lurking for about a week and started feeling guilty about it, so I registered! I started out as IS alternate list #13... not sure where I am now, but I appreciate people posting updates so I don't have to ambush the admissions office with phone calls! 🙂

P.s. I feel like a supercreep reading everyone's convos, but it's nice to know I'm not the only one freaking out! 😀

If anyone on the waitlist is thinking about abandoning ship, please do so as quickly as possible and update this forum. 🙂 I'm afraid the butterflies in my stomach are going to morph into mini Cujos.

that made me lol.

Much prefer that phrase to the "R" word. Thanks for sharing your thread with me.
Good luck. Remember - the Matrix cannot tell you who you are...😎

I live inIowa City and STILL haven't gotten any mail!

Live in TX and received by bad news on Saturday (took a while)... I really really like Iowa too....oh well... Life goes on.

I LOLed as well but it is weird. Maybe give them a call. In the eastcoast and received 3 mail from them since tuesday so you should give them a call if you have not yet received it.

Would anyone already accepted be able to share when 2nd look day is?

Has anyone recently barraged the admissions office to see if the waitlists have moved at all? I know it's only been like five days but my fingers are crossed for a lot of movement!

I'm #13, and I think you said you were #16? I was hoping you assaulted them with phone calls so I wouldn't have to! 😀 I promised myself I'd wait at least a week... I. Am. Going. INSANE.

Noooooo! This is killing me. I keep hoping someone else is going to call because I know that after the first update (hopefully we don't have to wait that long) I'm going to become that kid who calls like every three days and annoys the bejeezus out of the committee.

grrrrrrrrrr!!!!! I'm doing everything I can to distract myself from calling.

Example: I am super awkward on the phone, yet volunteered to man the phones for a Red Cross telefund to raise money for the Earthquake/Tsunami relief (we raised 16 grand yay!)

... running outta ideas cuz I'm on spring break...

Same thing here. I'm #9 on the IS wait list and I promised I would wait until Monday. Never thought I would be more excited for a Monday...

PS- I decided it was time I stopped lurking as well and signed up.

Im not sure if you already got this update or not but I received an email from the admissions staff last Friday that I had moved from #3 on the IS wait list to #1. So you should be at least 2 spots higher now. Possibly even more if people in between us on the list decided not to accept their position.

Nice!! And trust me, you don't want the opposite dilemma. I think my profs completely misconstrued "break", taking it as "break the backbones of these already spineless students" and just blanketed me in papers. At least if I can get into medical school I can fix my inevitable carpal tunnel.

Now I'm unhealthily excited for a Monday!

I received an email from the admissions staff...I had moved from #3 on the IS wait list to #1.

I remember Midwestern Blot saying the WL had moved, but I just ran through my Gmail and I didn't get a notification. So we've all moved up at least two, which is great. I'm hoping to hear about more than that. How quickly do you think ISers will reply to that WL letter? If they don't within two weeks are they taken off the WL permanently?

I don't think they send updates to everyone right away. From last year's thread, it looks like they will send an update for WL progress every three weeks or so.

Just called the admissions office. The in state waitlist has still only moved up 2 spots. I started at 8 and have moved up to 6. She said it was rare for the list to start moving so early though, and she will send everyone on the waitlist an update of their position next Tuesday or Wednesday. Finally, she said that she will email people who do not respond to whether or not they want to remain on the waitlist next week, then call them on Friday before actually kicking them off. Happy St. Paddy's

Thanks for checking 🙂 my nerves get a break... for now...

Second TT0710's thanks. You're not just a stallion. You're a stud.
Also, I really like all the new users this thread is attracting--we could use 'em. I was looking at last year's thread and they were a chatty bunch.
Now we just have to wait until Friday for the kick-offs to begin. No problem! The wait is gonna be great! On a completely unrelated note, does anyone have a belt or a piece of tree bark I can chew on?

Hi everyone, congratulations to those who have been accepted and wait-listed--sounds like the list is already moving, so that's good news! I was accepted in the fall, I'm from Colorado, and I believe I'll most likely be at Carver in the fall, unless my instate school takes me off the waitlist (unlikely) and offers me a lot of money (even more unlikely). I have a lot of family in Iowa and my folks both went to U of I, so I'm familiar with the area, but I have no idea about living situations. I would like a 1 bedroom apartment in a relatively newish complex that doesn't look compeletely dreary, and within walking or busride to the MERF building. I heard at the interview that parking is terrible, so I want to avoid that. For those of you who are from Iowa City, or undergrads/recent grads from the University, do you have any suggestions of complexes I should look into? I would really appreciate it.

Again, congrats to other future Carver students! I really loved the school, and got a very welcoming feeling from them--something that could be said about the whole state of Iowa, actually ;-)

I would suggest looking into the complexes across from the dental school or carver hawkeye arena on Newton Road. They are about a 5 to 10 minute walk to the medical campus with a bus stop that will take you wherever you want to go on campus. There are some pretty cheap rent places and some nicer options depending on what you are looking for. Also, you might consider the medical fraternity which is very close to campus, but I don't know how their living situation works.

No problem. I figure we can get a rotation going and then we don't have to personally annoy the admissions office so much, but we can still find out the status of the waitlist quite often.

Sounds like a plan!

Alright, Week #2 of waiting. Bring it.

Good call. Sooo....one hour rotations? Haha. We just have to wait a couple more days for the updated e-mail, so I probably won't be calling until at least Friday when people start losing their spots.

Haha wouldn't it be nice if they had news every hour? But then we'd have nothing to incessantly stew over here...

I was thinking the same thing about waiting for the deadline to past before bombarding the office with phone calls. Is it just me or does it feel like it's been forever since we got the letters??

Nope, it's been forever!

Tuesday has passed and Wednesday is pretty close to over. Has anyone received an e-mail update about the waitlist?

Maybe they meant they would send us an email the Tuesday or Wednesday after the Friday that they kick people off the list? Maybe? if that made sense? That was a lot of days in one sentence...

Yeah, I would bet that they meant the 29th or 30th. We'll have better news then anyway because they would have kicked some people off. 🙂

If you are on the waitlist, do you need to send anything other than a FAFSA for financial aid? If so does anybody know the deadlines?

I know out of state list has moved one spot....a friend had to call for something unrelated and was informed.

Here is a link to the financial aide timetable.

The only other form that you might need to submit right now is the Iowa Verification form, together with you/your parents' tax returns.....if you can get on ISIS as a waitlist student, you can fill it out and submit it. Other than that and the FAFSA, there is nothing more immediately to fill out for financial aide.

And, MB, I hope to be your classmate this fall 😉

Hey thanks. Being admitted to Carver has been one of my goals for a long time. I have three family members that have attended Carver so there is a great deal of tradition for me here. After being so disappointed two weeks ago when I received my letter, I'm moving on and thinking positive again. Even though I don't have great odds at making it into the class, there is still a chance which I will hold on to until it is no longer possible this year.

But as far as financial aid goes, I really don't want to get left behind. Thanks for the info.
