Guys, I just had my interview on Saturday 9/11 and it was a great experience. I would post an interview feedback, but I would like to write a quick summary for those of you who have not yet had yours.

The day began at 9:15 am with a powerpoint presentation about the school, program, Lexington, etc., after which all the interviewers came in. We introduced ourselves and they did same. Then the interviewers picked up their respective interviewees to interview rooms. Each of us had 2 interviews of course. After the interviews, we were treated to a boxed subway lunch and had an informal discussion with 2nd year students. The final activity of the day was the tour of campus by the 2nd year students.

If there's any advice I can give, I'll say make sure you know your AMCAS essay, your activities, and your secondary app essays cold. You'll be asked tons of questions from them. The second advice is to relax. Don't be nervous...they want to know that you are a normal human being that can work well with other people.

I'll give more details of the school in my interview feedback. You guys probably know a lot about the school already.

Most of the questions I was asked are as follows:
1. Tell me about yourself (I talked about my family and ended up with why I want to study medicine).
2. Why UK College of Medicine?
3. Discuss how your family background has influenced your choice of career.
4. Discuss how your father's ill-health affected you and your family.
5. Tell us about a time where you faced a challenging situation and how you overcame it.
6. Discuss a time where you had to take initiative to bring change.
7. If you don't get in this application cycle, would you apply again?
8. What other career would you pursue if you don't get into medical school?
9. Why did you do a Master of Public health degree before medicine?
10. Discuss your research.
11. Tell us about your shadowing and volunteering experiences and how they influenced your decision to go into medicine.
12. Medical school is very expensive, have you considered the cost?
13. Why have you decided to go into primary care?
14. What other specialty of medicine would you consider apart from primary care?
15. How would you balance being a busy primary physician with the public health research and advocacy you want to do?
16. What have you done after you graduated from college?
17. What work are you doing now?
18. How do you reconcile your great GPA with your MCAT scores (my scores are low).
19. How did you prepare for the MCAT?
20. Which other medical schools did you apply to?
21. What ties do you have to Kentucky?
22. Do you intend to remain in the US or return to your home country after your training? (I am an international student).
23. What does your husband want? To remain here or go back to your home country?
24. How would you manage without your support system? (I told them that we'll make new friends).
25. What qualities should a physician possess?

How did you answer that questions? I imagine I will be asked something similar, because I am interested in pursuing primary care + public health research too. I know a few physicians who do this, but I've never asked how their schedule is divided.

Thanks so much for posting these questions! They are extremely helpful. 👍

Yeah, this was a tough one. I basically told the interviewer that I would use all the technology available - video and phone conferencing, etc to keep up with my colleagues in the academia. In my practice, I would seek out research opportunities or cases to study and would collaborate with outside researchers. Another way is to work with the local health department - disease surveillance, behavioral patterns, etc (actually my interviwer suggested this).

If when I check my status on the UK app website, it says "Interview(s) to be Scheduled" does this mean I got an interview and I should just wait on an email from them??

Preeeetty excited if that's the case!! 👍

EDIT: Just read through the rest of the thread. Looks like my question was answered many times!! Hope I don't have to wait TOO long for the email!

I sent mine in 9/7 and was complete maybe 9/10 or something, and I'm pretty sure I got an interview (based on what my status says). Just waiting on the email to be 100% sure 👍

Congrats!! Yeah I just now got complete. I really hope to hear good news. I really like this school.

Thanks, Maiden!! And thanks for the rundown of your interview - it'll definitely be helpful during my own preparation. 🙂

I've had it a little over a week. I emailed admissions just to make sure I should be expecting an invite and they said they're working out the dates and will send an email as soon as they have one for me. Maybe it just takes a while? It's nice to know we WILL be getting on, though! :luck:

Yeah, I've called and email at various time points too. While I don't want to come off as annoying by harassing them,I am starting to get worried that if it takes too long, they're gonna change their mind and retract the offer...lol

hi

how many days after "send to screening", you got invite

Thanks

Finally got my official invite by email. My status was "Interview(s) to be Scheduled" for about two weeks before they got me my date. Anyone else on Sat, Nov 6? 👍

Same here! Except mine took more than a month to get an official date for! see you then!

hi guys

my application completed Sep 16, I am still in screening, I am scared , I think I am rejected otherwise I got interview sooner, i applied for rural program, oos
any idea? 🙁

Hey guys. I'm an M2 here at UKCOM. If you have any questions about the process or whatever, feel free to ask or PM me. I know when I applied there was a lot that I had questions about.

On a side note, good luck. I am very happy here and really glad that I chose UK.

I was complete on the 8th and am still in screening, too. I dreamt that it changed to "Interview to be scheduled," but no... Same ol' thing. I'm now crying myself to sleep. Again.

+pissed+ ----> :cry:

I think there is still time. Its still early; and I know this school is finished by December. But I feel like ya'll should give it somemore time and then call. I was complete on 9/09 but Im waiting because my app only said sent to screening since last week. Keep hope alive. If were rejected were gonna save all the tuition we cant afford

thanks 🙂

I will call in mid October, but if you guys call , please let me know what happened good luck🙂

I could not wait till October 15 here is the email I send today and their response:

Me: since students are
invited for interview after 2-3 weeks of completion, if I am still in
screeing after 2 weeks, does it mean I have been rejected?

Admission Lady: No...it means we are moving slowly with the screening🙂

I think that some of us will get interview but it takes time,😀 hopefully all of us 😳

please don't do this at all your schools - they'll get annoyed, and FAST. I think a lot of this application process is a test of our patience to see how well we handle the pressure. things take time, and the further we get into the cycle, the more time they are going to take. a little bit of patience goes a long way. I do hope you hear something soon, though. good luck!

I completely accept what you saying, but it is my 3rd time applying not to this school though, my application improved a lot, but I was wait list last year for 9 months before rejection, I am so worried now, I keep calling schools every week. Thanks

I keep calling schools every week.

Yeah, I'd cut back a bit. I think an email or call at each step in the process (complete, screening, interview, etc.) is the max amount of contact... at least for UK, because Kim Scott is the bomb! (I'm assuming it's Kim b/c of the smiley.) Other schools might only tolerate one status check before the interview.

Thanks for advice, no more call from today

How does UK do acceptances? Mail still?

Yeah, I think so and I think they call you if they accept you. Have you interviewed yet? You can call on the 15th to find out if so.

Had my interview there today. I wasn't asked about my activities other than shadowing and volunteering, really.

One interviewer I had said he didn't read person statements since he felt interviews should be more about learning who you are as a person rather than as an applicant. Overall I was way more impressed with the school than I was expecting. Everyone was great--staff, interviewers, and the other interviewees made the experience very pleasant. I'll be posting on interview feedback in the near future for those who've yet to interview.

To others who interviewed today/previously: How'd you feel about it?

Was my experience exactly...but I think both interviewers read my personal statements. Well, I wish you success!

You'll never know until you try. Talk to Kim Scott...she's nice.

To those who have gotten interviews and are OOS:
could you please share your numbers with us?
Thanks

I just checked my status today and it said "Interview to be scheduled." However, I don't actually know when I got that status since I pretty much thought Kentucky was gonna reject me (it was my last secondary, completed 9/22) so I never bothered checking until today. I went to high school for 2 years in Louisville, KY.

3.5 cGPA, 3.45 sGPA, 34R.

Today, my status changed to this as well so I'd sayyyyyy this morning. The committee meets every other Tuesday afternoon; updates post the following morning. I haven't looked back in this thread to see if they ever buck that trend, though.

Yeah my status changed today. I have been checking it everyday since it said sent to screening on 9/21 I was complete 9/09.

so we have to wait until they email us about interview date, right? I hope we get interview for November

Yeah. We should get one in early November, as long as they aren't already booked. I figure roughly 5 weeks from the last status update... 2 weeks for the next meeting, which should give us interview dates, then 3 weeks from invite to interview.

Mine was 5 weeks between invite and interview, FWIW. Official invite email: 9/28, inverview: 11/6.

Does anybody know if the committee met today? I interviewed on Saturday and am wondering if I will hear on the 15th or not... Good luck everybody!

I have been accepted my numbers:

Total GPA 3.79
Science GPA 3.5
MCAT: PS 11; BS 11; VR-9

How does UK do acceptances? Mail still?

You will get a call from one of the people that interviewed you after a decision has been made...at least that's how mine worked. However, unless you are early decision then you will not receive any notice until after Oct 15. A couple of weeks after I received the acceptance phone call, I received a letter.

Does anyone know how many people are accepted in the first go around. I am still waiting for an interview date (my status changed online - just waiting for an email now). I feel like I am way behind...

I will be interviewing Monday at Morehead and Tuesday at Lexington. I am applying for the RPLP. Interviews pretty laid back?
