(my mom is so excited that she wants to drive me there haha)

So where on that website can you check your status? It just looks like the applyweb confirmation...did you get an email with another link or just an email telling you about the invite?

email -- no link. I thought I was imagining things for a second.

hoorahh!! ii for me too 🙂 does anyone know if there's an option to stay with students vs. hotels?

We haven't been asked to host anyone yet, so I don't think officially that there's a program in place for that sort of thing yet.

Just got the interview invite. Congratulations to the others. See y'all on the 28th

Very nice guys, when were you complete if I may ask?

Just got an invite too! I submitted 7/31 and according to the website, my app was "confirmed" on 8/4

Got the interview invite Friday. OOS submitted secondary approximately July 18th...... Very excited definitely my first choice if I am accepted!

for some of you worried about not recieving a secondary or an interview invite at this point... here is how my application cycle progressed last year...

Submitted AMCAS primary on June 3rd 2009... Recieved VTCSOM Secondary at the end of July... They received/confirmed my completed secondary at the beginning of September... I interviewed at 4 schools before hearing back from VTC towards the end of December... Interviewed with VTC on January 15th of this year... received an offer of admission in February... just finished orientation week at VTC and will begin classes tomorrow...

be patient and don't lose hope... you are still at the beginning of a long process...

ps- we have a student who, from what i gather, received an admissions offer less than 48 hours prior to the first day of orientation...

Congratulations Freezer, and thanks for the update. I'm annoyed how it seems like VTC sent out a batch of secondaries, but then kind of stopped there, leaving us all kind of just hanging there.
Congratulations to all who are getting interviews 👍, I look forward to hearing about their unusual method of interviewing students. I hope I get the chance to interview here someday.............if they'd just get on the ball and start sending out secondaries again.:meanie:

I'm guessing you didn't apply to Drexel.

No I didn't, why do you ask?😕

Because in comparison to other school's, VTC's timeline of admissions is a lot faster than many others. Drexel is a bit infamous in how long they take to respond to anything.

It's the first week of August. I think you folks who are worrying already should probably relax. Several of my classmates(myself including) weren't even complete at the school until October or later and we still did just fine.

I second vtbuc. Calm down folks. I was complete in JANUARY and it was fine. also...yeah drexel takes a decade to respond to anything

:slap: Ok, ok, I must learn to be patient

It sounds like there aren't any real official avenues to find a student host. Are there any current students that would be willing to help? I'd much prefer to stay with someone who has a little more insight on the school, especially given how new it is. If any current students are reading this, please pm me and maybe we can organize something.

Ditto on the above. At the very least it would be awesome the night before to meet one of you and have you "show me the ropes" Any insight would be invaluable. PM if any of you would be so nice to offer.

My roommate and I would be willing to be student hosts. Contact if interested. I am male and she is female, and are okay with either gender staying so long as you aren't an ax murderer or creeper of any kind.

I will also talk to my roommate about being student hosts. I think it would be a great experience and also give us a little bit of a break too. I am also in VTBuc's situation, except I'm female (if you couldn't guess by the name) and he's male. I will talk to him about it, we have a couch and an empty bed.

I'm so excited to see so many people getting interview invites. I got interviewed late in February and still got in but I also got my secondary done and finished in October. So I waited quite a while to hear from them.

But for those that got early interviews, don't get too cocky, early doesn't mean accepted. Keep your head about you and prepare really well for the MMI format, it is pretty tough. But most importantly, always remember to be yourself! 😀

So, I'll get back to you all about the student host stuff and I'll bring it up with some people tomorrow. I'm sure we can get something going for you guys in need of a place to stay.

Thank you for the offers for student hosting. I'm debating if I would like to stay with current students or stay in a hotel. I'm very much a hotel person -- even lived in one for a month+ haha

I looked at the class pics and is there really only 12 woman in the program? 😱

Hey guys!

Just got an interview invite for August 28th! So for those who didn't receive an invite in the bunch that went out last week, don't give up hope! 🙂

See you all on the 28th!

wow I'm an IS student actually in southwest virginia and just got an e-mail saying I wouldn't be receiving a secondary....and I already have an interview scheduled with VCU and EVMS has said that I will be granted one but haven't officially received the e-mail...thats cool

Did you not receiving a secondary e-mail say something about re-reviews in the future? I am confused if they have rejections and holds or if their hold email is their rejection because my e-mail says, "No secondary at this time."

Yeah, my e-mail was the re-review in the future for a secondary, but I just don't see how I would be anymore competitive later on in the cycle if I'm not competitive enough early on to even get a secondary.

Me too, and I have 3 interviews elsewhere, but not at the schools that you have>>hey, and by the way, congratulations on those!!!😀 VCU is my top choice, but I don't have an interview there. I'm OOS to Virginia.

😕 To echo your statement, it just kind of seems like they'd want students from SW Virginia, isn't that kind of the whole point to having a med school in SW Virginia😎
Anyways, time to move on......best of luck to all.:xf:

Weird, do you have under a 3.2 or under an 8 in one of the MCAT sections? It's really odd that they wouldn't even send you a secondary IS.

Did people get a complete email? I submitted the secondary on August 1st and never got a complete email.

Not exactly a complete email, but an email saying that they received my secondary and would be checking for my LOR's. I submitted 7/31 and got this email 8/4. But I don't think there's a complete email after that because I got an interview invite a few days later.

No all mcat sections are at least 10 or above and my gpa isn't exactly stellar but it's above 3.2 and i'm also a research assistant right now at another medical school so I'm kinda shocked I didn't even get a secondary....oh well saves some time and money i suppose

Hmm, I submitted 8/1 but haven't gotten that 'received' email yet. On applyweb, it says submitted and confirmed.

Is anyone else in the same boat?

Does anybody know how deep the cuts are for each point in the application process? More specifically, how many people get screened out from secondaries to interviews? I am hoping maybe someone from the charter class knows...

I received the "can't offer you a secondary right now." I think they have high standards; however, I'm OOS and they favor in state and OOS from nearby.

I guess I was more wondering how stringent getting the secondary was, as in, does getting the secondary very likely mean you will get an interview? I feel that this school is somewhat unusual in that the interview isn't automatically tied to the secondary.

So you got an email after your submission? See I never got that email.

Can anyone find the contact info for VTC? I'd like to give them a call/send email.

Where did you hear that? I'm OOS and not nearby. I've only driven through Virginia before.

1. What schools have you been applying to? Out of the 30+ schools I am applying to, I can only think of 1 that a secondary sorta equals an interview invite.
2. I think VTC is looking for a certain something in the applicant in order to get a secondary (I feel like they are looking for individuals with research, teamwork, and leadership experience). I feel like they are like Wake Forest in deciding who gets secondaries (maybe 1/3 of applicants get rejected pre-secondary... but I also don't think getting a secondary means you will get an interview invite. But who knows.

As far as I know, only Vanderbilt really has secondary = interview type system? And I got a secondary and my stats aren't great as OOS, so I think they're probably using some other system than pure stats.

Well Avoid, I kinda forget if VTC favors in state? I assume they do. I assume they also take OOS from nearby that region. Also, small class size so I'm sure they have to be picky right now. It's cool though, I'm fine not getting a secondary. lol I'm super behind as I'm applying to 30+ schools. ha.

Considering their is no stats yet about the accepted class, it's hard to say if VTC prefers IS applicants. Maybe some of the chapter class knows? But even then that might not be an accurate picture of all the people who were accepted and ended up going elsewhere.

They also are a private school and nowhere on their website do they state they prefer IS. I wouldn't count yourself out if you are OOS but it does sound like they a re being pickier this year about secondaries than last year.

We find it amazing how much misleading information is discussed on SDN!

Hey guys,
Just first off, VTC does not "favor" in state or out of state students. If you look at the stats for the first class, the majority are from VA, but many are from all over the country. I'm from the University of Florida, and there are two others in my class from UF as well. There are people from NY to CA. Their goal isn't to train IS students to work in VA (like FSU training Florida students to work in Florida), but to become a school of scholarship at the highest level and send out researchers and leaders in medicine. It is just as competative in my opinion for IS people as for OOS. As for being told that secondaries are not available for you at this time is not to say that you wont be getting one in the future. I think that admissions committee is being very selective but also wants to take their time with each applicant and choose wisely who to interview. If you aren't granted a secondary now, you may get one later when application submission amount goes down. Remember, out of all the applicants, they will probably only interview 240 to 280 people and that is very very selective. If they send out secondaries to even half the people that apply, it would take them forever to make their selections for interviews. Don't give up hope though!

As for contacting VTC, I'm pretty sure the email address is [email protected]

😍 good luck everyone, if you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Gonna go study now...

Thanks for the incite along with VTCAdm. Def, I didn't really know if they were hardcore IS or not. Great info guys on VTC. Thanks.

"If you choose to complete the ETS PPI process, we request three (minimum) to five (maximum) evaluations, including one from a science or math faculty member w ho has had significant contact with you. You are free to choose your other evaluators. It is NOT necessary to use the same evaluators as the faculty members who wrote your standard letters of recommendation. We would encourage you to get PPI evaluations from some of the supervisors, mentors, or employers that you listed in the Work/Activities section of your AMCAS application."
-- I assume this is true if you just send in LOR (without ETS) - 1 science and the rest people who know you well.

I am not familiar with ETS PPI, what does that mean? Is it a special track?
Also, I checked the website but could not find this, does VTech accept international students with undergraduate degrees in the US?

ETS PPI is a way of doing the letters of recommendation. Most schools have their letters done through AMCAS application, some schools have their own letter program, like VTC. If you have a question about international students, you really should contact the admissions office. Shoot them an email and they will let you know. The email address is in my above post.

Thank you (and the current students) for participating in this thread and providing info... I wish more schools did the same 🙂

So, this question is directed towards those either already at VTC or received an interview there recently or anyone who has some valid input ...lol so I guess everyone,

I was wondering if writing about my four-year commitment in a cultural show as a participant and later as a choreographer/leader would be a good experience to write about.

I am hesitant just because someone had told me that these kinds of experiences are not looked upon as highly as experiences like volunteering or research which have some kind of end product for others.

What do you guys think?

FYI I am just an applicant haven't even gotten an interview

The cultural show idea seems interesting if I were a reader i would love someone writing about something unique. Yet it is about putting forth your best foot, can you show the qualities that you think a physician should have or you believe the school is looking for with this topic or can you do so better with an essay you have about research or volunteering. Like an earlier poster said look at the mission statement and think about whether you can showcase the qualities they are interested in.
