Withdrew my acceptance as well, simply could not afford it.

I just wish I knew that they offer merit scholarships within a few days of acceptance. If I knew that when I was accepted in January I sure wouldn't have wasted the extra thousand to fly back to Boston hoping I still was being considered for a merit scholarship haha.

Good luck to everyone on the waitlist and all of those attending BU, I wish you the best in your medical education!

Got my financial aid letter! 10,000 in scholarship and 18,000 subsidized institutional loans! YAY BU!

I was also given some institutional loans. Do you guys know what the advantages are to taking the institutional loans? I think with the federal loans you can go under the income based repayment option so your payments are pretty low during residency. But, with the BU loans you still have to pay during your second or third year of residency. On the other hand, I guess its subsidized and the interest rates are really low.

Already confirmed acceptance on the BU website and sent the deposit and completed all required forms/questions. Do I have to do anything else before May 15? Is there anything needed to be done through AMCAS?

background check?

I actually called the admissions office a few days ago and they said that they are still over enrolled so they won't be looking at the wait list until they have it all figured out >.>.

That's discouraging news. Thanks for sharing though.

Gave up my spot last week just to let you guys know, good luck!

There are a lot of people in the BUSM facebook group :/

Emailed admissions office yesterday. No wait list movement to date and they're still over-enrolled. 🙁

It's been more than a month since applicants are allowed to hold multiple acceptances and 3 months since we've had any word from them. Guess that means we have no chance of getting in now.

Just wish they would release an email like they did last year informing applicants of the status. Have no idea why they are so secretive. I just want some closure instead of checking this page everyday

I completely agree!

Do any of you on the wait list have acceptances elsewhere? Just curious, thx.

No acceptances here - four waitlists. I'm starting to accept that it probably won't happen this year, but I just want some closure so I can move on. So much is up in the air. I did start my application for next year though.

Keep your heads up high. 4 - 5 waitlists isn't bad at all. And if it doesn't work out, at least you know there wasn't any black mark in your application.

I guess when they meant small, they meant smaller than other schools where the waitlist extends into 500+ like vanderbilt. Really misleading though. Thought I stood a chance

Can those who were on the waitlist post their MCAT/gpa and whether they were rejected or not yet. It would be helpful for me.

They said in the email that they were already over enrolled and did not have any spots left for waitlisters T T

When did you receive this email???

6/28

The email:

We wrote to you several months ago inviting you to take a position on the waiting list for admission to the entering class of 2012 at Boston University School of Medicine. It is with great regret that I write now to inform you that we will be unable to offer a place in the class. This is a disappointment, as much for those who are responsible for the decision as it may be for you, the candidate who is turned away.

Most of the candidates we are considering this year are qualified to attend medical school and are likely to make important contributions to our profession and to society. Sadly, with about 100 applicants for every seat in the class, we are forced to deny many exceptional people.

We acknowledge and respect your accomplishments and appreciate your patience over the past few months. Please accept our best wishes for all your future endeavors.

That sounds like a rejection to me. I'm on the waitlist too and I haven't gotten that email. I wonder if they are narrowing their waitlist down? I did email them this week with my last day for consideration and they told me that there hasn't been any movement due to "over subscription" in the upcoming matriculating class. Who knows if that is the whole truth, but I haven't heard of anyone getting accepted off of their waitlist yet. At any rate, I'm not holding my breath.

My guess is that BUSM is still overenrolled, so they rejected a good number of people from the waitlist. In the event that enough people drop their acceptances before classes start, they are keeping a smaller batch of students on the waitlist for consideration later. I wouldn't bank on it, though.

So if the waitlist was small to begin with, does that mean the number of waitlisters are right now are down to <20? Hahha

I didn't receive an email either, but at this point you would hope they might give some deferral offers to the waitlisted students, I wouldn't mind waiting a year to go to BUSM. Whatever, I'm sure everything will pan out for the best and I definitely don't mind being patient because you never know what can happen.

I've never heard of that happening before, so it seems unlikely if not impossible. That would be awesome though.

Deferrals are usually offered to accepted students that want to delay a year for a legitimate reason. Sometimes you see schools offer deferrals with a partial scholarship if they are overenrolled, which BU may have to do as orientation looms. To my knowledge, no school will offer a deferral to a wait-listed student who was not accepted. A few schools even have rules that students coming off of the wait-list are not eligible for a deferral. A wait-list is meant to fill the incoming class, not a future class. If you are not holding any acceptances at the moment, you should consider reapplying. Best of luck.

Yea, I agree that's not gonna happen. There's no benefit to the school. I may be cynical but that's 1 less applicant fee for those who do not get in anywhere this cycle.

That aside, anyone still praying for just 1 acceptance? Why are my waitlists not moving? Was 2011-2012 an unlucky year or what? Or is it just me? oh oh trouble

I would just like to mention that University of Nebraska will occasionally waitlist students during the current application cycle while, at least, guaranteeing them acceptance for the next cycle. I was surprised to learn this - just sharing.

Alright then, I'm applying there for the upcoming cycle.

Nah, I'm in the same boat as you. I'm on 5 waitlists at the moment haha.

Haha, hope there's no red mark in our applications then. If we both get into BU, I'll buy the drinks. I will drink till I puke

It's extremely unlikely, and I don't know if BU does it, but there are some schools which will offer acceptances to the next years class to a few waitlisted students. Very rare, but it never hurts to be hopeful.

It seems pretty late for any substantial withdrawals... So either they are close to the wait list or they really ought to dismiss us all very soon.

I'm pretty sure there won't be anymore rejections. The remaining waitlisters will be waiting till classes start

I guess I was just thinking that since their wait list questions email said that if it became clear by early July that they would not use their wait list they would let us know they may do just that... Maybe they will use it though! Fingers crossed!
