I sent a message via BU website message center to ask about student hosts. They emailed me a list of students, and I'm staying with one next week.

Remember, we are all competing for 115 spots. The remainder go to students in the BU accelerated/special program. Therefore, the acceptance % is probably very low in comparison to other schools.
 
Just got an II! Completed in early September. Wasnt expecting this, so excited 😀
 
interview invite this morning! Completed 8/30 and I sent an in-the-area message last thursday (10/20). I'm not sure if that helped or not but I'm happy nonetheless.
 
Also, I haven't gotten my interview date yet and I'm not sure if they will actually be able to accommodate the time I'm in Boston but I hope so!

Best interview day ever. The Head of Admissions is like the Willy Wonka of med schools. Right? And I mean that in the best way - this school moved to the top of my list from what I saw on interview day. He (Dr. Witzburg) is literally the best speaker I've ever heard. I want to have another interview day there just to watch his shpiels. I really hope I get the go-ahead here. Fingers double crossed!

Wait... does that mean that they are uncrossed...?
 
So I interviewed here recently and just want to say it is an amazing school. The Dean sells the school real well, but it's not even necessary. The location, the city, the school, the hospital, and the students are all amazing and the mission of the school is unique. My interview wasn't exactly stupendous and I don't know what my chances of being accepted are, but this school definitely has moved up towards the top of my list.

I recently took the MCAT in September and got only a 26. I am signing up for a prep course that runs from january to may. I was planning on apply in the spring of 2012. My question is is it better to submit your application and choose the wait for mcat score which will be made available in late june or do i wait to receive my 2nd score which i believe will a lot better and then submit. So my question is if they see a bad mcat will they not even bother to look at the score this is going to come in?

If you are taking the MCAT in June, then you should be fine. You will likely be marked complete at most schools after you have received your second set of MCAT scores. Then, they can use those (or both) in their evaluation.
 
I think it depends on whether you're willing to bet $160 that your MCAT score will be better and good enough. If you are, then submit very early that way by this time next year you might already have acceptances. Even if you decide to wait for your MCAT, as long a you have everything else filled out and ready (app, LOR, transcript, e.t.c), you can submit by July. That's still very early, imo.

thanks for your response. I was just curious if anyone knows anything about BU financial aid. Do they or any other med school provide real money and is financial aid basically access to loans. Thanks a lot.

Interviewing on 1/4~ would have been earlier, but their dates conflicted with my finals week ):

i am wondering this too. i could've sworn i saw my interviewer's name somewhere before but i can't find it anymore. is that information available somewhere?
 
No, you won't find out until the interview day.

Gene Wilder, except I feel like the dean would have even been a better Willy Wonka than Gene. Which is saying a lot. This guy really takes you on a magical journey! The result being that you kind of can't help but feel like BU is a magical Wonka Factory full of wonders! He is enthusiastic yes, but also composed, funny, and quirky - it really works for him lol. I want to be his friend 🙂

On your interview day they will give u a bio of your interviewer. It's a great asset 1. So u know who your going to talk to, and 2. So u don't put your foot in your mouth (I.e. saying I hate family medicine to a file
Medicine doc... 😉
 
I was supposed to interview here on Wednesday the 2nd, but I just couldn't justify the time commitment and missed class/tests, especially since I've already rescheduled once. Plus, I just don't see myself going to BU now that I have an IS acceptance. It would waste my time and theirs, and that's not right.

So if anyone wants to try to call the office tomorrow (probably in the afternoon to give them time to wipe me from the timetable), they might let you interview earlier.

It's pretty close to perfect. I was blown away at the interview day; the speaker was phenomenal, but you already know this.

Big city, diverse patient population, rich history, tolerant, collaborative environment, innovative...need I say more?

One of my top choices for sure.

EDIT: Apparently I do. Safety net hospital, with focus on under-served. Busiest trauma center in New England area, from what I remember.

This school was fantastic! So down to earth, but exceptional. By the way, not all interviews have an ethics question. I spent my whole interview waiting for it and it never came!!!

This may seem odd, but take the public transit from the hospital if you get the opportunity. I had some amazing and hilarious experiences on it! Half my stories about my trip to Boston happened on the bus.

It was a really cool school. Although they say they only give out a 3rd of the class in acceptances in January - they let in about 120 from this pool, so only 40 acceptances? From 600 or so interviews? Please tell me I miss heard/ am wrong, because that is a pretty intimidating stat.
 
I think the 30 day e-mail is generally a good thing. It probably means they're spending at least a bit more time on your application than the people who get rejected at day - 19. Unfortunately I got that e-mail today after being completed sometime early October.

Rough week.

I'm in the same boat as you and I believe you heard correctly. They will give 1/3 of the acceptances in January and way more rejections and then 2/3 in March with some more rejections and if you don't have an acceptance or a rejection at that point you are on the wait-list. Don't know if my heart can handle all this waiting.

What specific day were you complete? I passed the 19-day mark 10/31 and trying to be optimistic.

Yeah, they have two rounds when they send out decisions to people who have interviewed. In the first round (after about 2/3 of the candidates have interviewed) they only fill about 1/3 of the spots, defer a lot of the people, and reject some. This decision is sent out in mid January. In the second round (after everyone has interviewed) they use the candidates from the second round and the deferred candidates from the first round to fill the remaining 2/3 of the spots. Everyone who isn't accepted at that point is either rejected or put on the wait list (which apparently is a really small wait list). This decision is sent out in late March.

That's my understanding from what they told us on the interview day.
 
Dang. I just tried to move my early January interview up, no luck for free dates. Is it really bad to be interviewing in their second go?

I don't think so. They save a lot of the spots for the 2nd round of decisions, so I think you probably have the same shot at getting in as if you were in the 1st round. The only thing is that you have to wait until March for a decision.
