Accepted! Got a phone call tonight around 7:15pm and got an email to follow up. Congratulations to all those accepted, and good luck to those still waiting!

Hi! Did you find out via email or status update or both? Thanks!

I got an email about a status update this morning. Most terrifying email I've ever opened, seeing as that the subject was only about a "Status Change". They have a ton of people to get back to this round, so I'm sure the news is just rolling out slowly to everyone! Good luck!

Do you guys think not hearing anything yet is a bad thing?
Getting worried.

has anyone received their "official acceptance email" yet? i got the letter today but have not yet received the email and do not have the option to accept my place in the class yet via "My Application"

If you don't mind me asking, what state are you in? I haven't heard anything yet and I'm trying to figure out if maybe they're doing the whole process in batches? Thanks and congratulations!!

Did anyone here interview with Dr. Ng? If so, could you please PM me her email address? I left her business card in my apartment at school and now I'd like to email her, but that's kind of difficult to do without knowing her email address :smack:
Thanks and good luck to everyone!

Does anyone know when the committee meets to make the March decisions? I am wondering how long I have to write an update letter.

I haven't heard back yet either. I suspect that those deferred received a status update online and those accepted did not so as to give the interviewers time to call if they wanted to. I take it letters should be arriving soon if they haven't already.

Congrats to everyone accepted and good luck to those deferred!

Deferred! Anyone else as thrilled as I am to still be in the race?

Haha - good for you for having a great attitude about it. I feel like most of us deferees are pretty bummed, but the truth is, yeah, probably 90% of all the applicants this year have been rejected up to this point, so getting deferred is actually something to celebrate 🙂 Good on ya.

It was definitely a pleasant surprise to be deferred after how bad my interview went and Dr. Witzburg blatantly saying, "if you have a poor interview experience that we can arrange another interview for you that same day," (it must be quite commonplace if he is bringing it up).

The thing is that they can fill the entire school with statistical all-stars if they want to and it's clear that they rejected people with amazing numbers and have accepted people with amazing numbers. This really makes me wonder what BU looks for in an applicant and having to sift through 12,000 applications and narrow that down to 120-200 acceptances. It's absolutely nuts to even make it to this point, but to be accepted would just be unbelievable.

One thing that is irking me is that Dr. Witzburg said that many people would be rejected post-interview in January, few would be accepted, and some would be deferred. It seems as though very few were rejected and many were accepted and many were deferred. That being said, I doubt too many people are going to come on SDN to talk about a post-interview rejection. I just wonder how many people my application is going to be compared to in March.

I agree with you on most points but i remember him saying that they would defer most people, and accept and reject a few.

If that's the case then this whole scenario makes sense. BU definitely does not seem like an institution that is scared of rejecting applicants; that can almost be a good thing and is definitely better than the silent rejections I foresee in my future.

In case some of you were wondering, it looks like acceptance statuses have been updated on the application website. The offer can be accepted there. Good luck to everyone!

Does anyone from previous cycles know if it is recommended for deferred applicants to send a letter of intent?

If BU is your #1 school, I don't think it can hurt to tell them this, unless you are insincere and tell this to multiple schools.

also

does anyone know if we have to do anything other than confirm the seat online before January 20th? Is there a deposit?

I didn't see anything about a deposit either so I'm assuming there isn't one.

Got the official email today!!

I dont think you have to do anything but accept it online. The deposit is due before May 15.

I think that's all you have to do at this stage; at least I couldn't find anything else. Presumably they would have mentioned the deposit if we needed to pay it. A previous MSAR says there is one, but its not due till May.

I think for now we just get to relax in relief. Congrats to all those accepted! Best phone call I ever received.

edit:
Just got a follow-up email after confirming acceptance saying they will send for the deposit later.

Accepted today via status update email. No call or email from interviewer (Dr. Vaughan).

Was accepted this morning via status update. This is my number 1 choice! Can't wait to meet all of you in August!

I was accepted in the most recent batch.

My Stats: 3.8/37S, at a heavily pre-med top 15 university. Good luck everyone!

You'll have about a month, depending on how much time you want to have off before 3rd year starts. Personally, and most of my classmates would agree, that a month is more than enough time to get ready for Step 1 (full time studying), especially since most people start doing some studying sometime in the second semester. I have known those who did it as shortly as 2 weeks after classes ended and those who did it the day before start of 3rd year.

anyone know how much time is given for step 1 studying?

I have a question in regards to May 15th. Maybe this would sound silly, but being an interntional student I've got no idea how this works.

From what I understand, we can only hold one acceptance after May 15th. So would I put the deposit down for Boston by that date? And would they want the full $45 grand by May 15th, or just proof a loan, etc?

I'm just confused in general as to what happens during this day.
If someone can shine any light on this, I would be really greatful.

I would also like to know this. Also, what happens if on may 15 I'm accepted at one school but wait listed at another, would I have to choose one and reject the other?

Got accepted by email on the 6th and official status change today!🙂

Deposits are usually a couple hundred $.

You can only keep one acceptance after May 15th, meaning that you keep your one acceptance and you stay on all of your waitlists. You don't have to make the choice right away, but if you get accepted off of a waitlist you have chose between the new acceptance and the old one.

If BU is your first choice and you have been deferred, definitely send them a letter of intent -- though wait until closer to the decision date.

Offer to withdraw immediately from all other schools if they accept you. It will matter.

you are allowed to keep waitlists, but if you want your letter of intent to be potent, offer to withdraw from those too.

By the grace of God, I was accepted as well. Is there really only 40 of us?

Dr. Witzburg said on my interview date (10/21) that they would accept 100 or so students right off the bat (this month) and then defer the majority to March, when they would accept the rest of the class (200 or so more).

Thanks for the confirmation, G. That's what I thought. One of the comments above threw me off a little. 👍

I might not be near an internet connection the month of May, as I will be travelling. So should I just choose the school I want to go to, make my deposit, and then I'm free to go? I guess what I'm asking is, is it ok not to be next to a computer during that time period as long as you've made the choice and made the deposit?

Yes it is fine, as long as you are only holding your spot in one school. You have to withdraw from all schools except for one by May 15th. You can still stay on as many waitlists as you want though.

i am pretty sure the entire class is only around 160 students, and 40 or so of those students come from the early assurance program at BU undergrad. so i'm not sure how it would be possible for 100 or so students to be accepted right off the bat...

I think it's because not all who are accepted attend.

I'll be withdrawing my interview from BU because of an acceptance from somewhere else. It's on 1/30 so if anyone really wants to reschedule you can. Hopefully someone else gets another interview because of this!

I just withdrew my interview offer for the end of January/early February. I certainly hope it goes to someone here!
