Oh i was off. and thanks.

I accidentally sent an e-mail update on my application, even though I was never given a final decision response yet. I realize that I am technically not supposed to this...is this bad? sorry!

Hi Case applicants! Just coming up for air briefly to wish you all good luck. For those who are new to this thread, I am a CCLCM alum. Happy to answer questions about rotations for both programs, research year, residency apps, etc. that the current students haven't gone through yet.

For those who want to get to the airport during rush hour, take the RTA. It's easy, even coming from CCF. If someone as directionally challenged as I am can manage it, all of you can, too!

It's fine. Really. 🙂

Hey guys, I was complete a week ago. On average, how long does it take to hear anything? Is the general trend that the longer you wait, the higher the chance for rejection? Thanks

what is the interviewed to acceptance percentage/ratio?

With the recent CP rejection for interviews, im curious as to how many they interview for CP? Vc any thoughts? or Myu?

I know the UP interviews ~800/3500ish I think...

Honestly, it is hard to say. We are a small program. If people don't sign up for the earlier spots, or cancel suddenly, then that spot is lost. It will depend partially on the applicants showing up! Anyway, the number interviewed has little bearing on an individual's "chances". I know people are neurotic here, but the number (possible about 1 in 20 to 35) won't help you much. Do your best, and sleep easy knowing you did. 🙂

Again, the ratio/percentage is not very helpful. It assumes that every applicant has an equal chance of acceptance...which is grossly wrong, and would beg the question "why interview if everyone has an equal chance"? See the WAMC sticky by sector9 and my post in particular for more on this misguided thinking.

It wasnt so much coming from a neurotic nature but more from the curiosity part of me based on the number of people he matriculated. My CP one isnt for another month or so( actually one month) and i have 3 before that so ill get in some good practice

I'm not sure what the trend is, but I was complete on 7/27 and was rejected today from the University Program (I didn't apply to the College Program). Good luck to everyone with interviews/those of you waiting to hear back!

Well, we usually have to extend acceptances to around 40ish candidates when the dust settles before the start of class. I hope this helps?

Yea. Thanks! Getting anxious. An old roommate of mine is up there now doing BME research and is getting me pumped for my visit

you didn't answer my question
if you don't know, then thats okay

So now that the CP shat on my dreams. How soon can I expect to hear from the UP, or is there no relation?

That's real professional right there.

you didn't answer my question

As is this.

Bet you can't guess what one of the qualities we value highly is...

Oh, oh oh! A pop quiz! Hold on...hmmm... Ok, given those examples I've narrowed it down to:

1) Being professional
2) Having good grammar
3) Being able to punctuate properly
4) Some combination of the three?

I give up...this is why I don't go to a med school with grades.

The general trend is that there is no general trend. It depends on how long it takes for your app to be screened, whether you're applying to one program or both, how complicated your app is, and a whole host of other things. If you haven't gotten a rejection, then you're still in the running. Embrace this fact and hang in there.

what is the interviewed to acceptance percentage/ratio?
It varies from year to year. Someone already posted the stats from last year further up-thread.

What he's trying to say is that your question isn't the right one to be asking. It's not relevant what the ratio is, because not everyone who gets interviewed has an equal chance of being accepted. Some people have a 0% chance of being accepted post-interview because they looked good on paper but were clearly not a good fit for the program in person. Other people are such rock stars both in person and on paper that they pretty much have a 100% chance of being accepted post-interview. Most people fall somewhere in between. You have no way of knowing where you will be, because you're not privy to your interviewers' evals or to the adcomm discussions and votes. So trying to figure out your "chances" this way is pointless.

Wouldn't you say that whether someone receives an interview is more predictive of acceptance than other quantitative factors one could use to judge your chances?

Hi everyone! Would someone be kind enough to post the available interview dates thus far? Thanks and congrats on the invites!

Do Case med students typically have cars? Not sure what transportation is like in Cleveland.

I was going to ask this, but then i figured I should wait until i get in first

Well, if you don't receive an interview, then your chances of acceptance are definitely zero, right? 😉

There is no point at which everyone is on equal playing ground. Even when people get invited for interviews, their chances of acceptance are not equal. Everyone who gets invited for an interview looks good on paper, but some still look better on paper than others do. Then after the interview is over, some people are rated higher by their interviewers and higher by the adcomm than others. Your interview day may help your cause or sink you for good, but the adcomm considers everything in your file when making their decision, not just how your interview day went.

Most do. I'm one of the few who didn't. There is plenty of housing within walking distance, and you can get through the first two years without a car fairly easily, especially if you're in the UP program. Getting through third year without one is a lot harder. It can be done, but you'll probably be a lot happier if you have a car for your rotations.

How good you'll think the public transportation is in Cleveland depends on where you're coming from, I suppose. To me, coming from a city with basically no public transportation, it was amazing. To someone coming from Boston, NYC, or Chicago, you're not going to be too impressed with it.

It's perfectly ok to ask questions even before you get in. 🙂

Thanks for the info! Good to know. Sounds like any other moderately sized city. I come from Houston where public transport is non-existent and traffic is the name of the game.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of research did you do in the program?

Which program? Have to ask why you are interested too?

I'm scheduling a trip to the area and was wondering what UP's interview dates were like. In the event that I'm fortunate enough to get an invite, I'm hoping to save some money and only make one trip.

Hey flddfeesh, UP interviews on almost all Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays as far as I can remember. Since I've scheduled my interviews, I can't see the available dates any more but I remember there were very few dates where an interview was not available. Sorry that I can't be of specific help.

For the interview confirmation e-mail for CCLCM, there are links to the interview itinerary and directions. Neither of those links works for me - anyone having the same problem?

Same.

Really? Hmmm...ill tell the admission staff tomorrow. Sorry about that. What are the exact link names, or is this all of the links within the email? Better yet, PM me the email and I will take a look.

Thanks, vc7777. I've PMd you the e-mail and links that are broken.

Hey ncrassa, thanks for looking that up! Congrats on the invite

I'm...not following along? Can you re-articulate? 😕

Nevermind. I was just saying that at least knowing the ratio of acceptances to interviews gives you a more accurate prognostic sense of your chances (after receiving an interview) than judging based on factors like your MCAT and GPA.

More clearly: knowing this ratio is better than nothing. But yes, as CCLCMer says, it's not a perfect predictor on the individual level because people don't go into interviews with an equal chance.

If you already got the other guy's PM about the links, great and thanks!

If not, I'd be willing to send them

Just got the

"The University Track is unable to interview you."

status. Good luck everyone!

I hope student hosting works out for one or both nights; i'd like to hang a bit with someone on the inside. I'm also a bit  cheap.

I'm thinking about couchsurfing if it doesn't 😛

Weird. Your stats look really good. When were you complete?...wondering how long they sat on your application.

I don't know...the big void in my application is shadowing experience, of which I have none at the moment. Every time I approach a doctor to shadow, they don't allow is since I'm not in medical school (weird Canada law)

Sorry to hear that! 🙁 ...best of luck other places! You know you are always welcome to be a pirate 😏 ....waiting for Prateek to post image in his/her top post, declaring his allegiance to Team Awesome (a.k.a. Pirates)

This is all making me nervous. I was contacted last week about getting more info for the review of my application. I took this as a positive thing (my app was not thrown out) but it's been some time and there is still no decision. I'm wondering if I got thrown back into the pile after the initial review.
