Couple of quick logistical questions. What is the best way to get from the airport to near campus and similarly, what would be the best manner to get from near campus to the Amtrak station? Thanks for any insight you guys can provide

Hmmmm. The internet seems to think this is a good solution:

"If you arriving via AMTRAK in downtown Cleveland, take the RTA Waterfont Blue Line train to Tower City and transfer to a Red Line train eastbound for University Circle. Taxis are also available at the AMTRAK station."

You would do that in reverse.

(Hopefully, you'll be taking a train that leaves during a rational hour of the day...)

Late at night/on weekends, the grad students might notice that there's far less space available...

Can I ask what was so appealing to you about cleveland? I think I might have missed something...
 
It's been rather quiet. seems they haven't sent out a new batch of interviews

Depends on the kind of city you like. If you're a SoCal/Florida/Arizona kind of person it's probably a nightmare, but to me it looked like a miniaturized Philadelphia; Old industrial city on the water, with nice new stadiums and museums and an interesting mix of neighborhoods. Now the weather... :laugh:

But yeah, the thread's been pretty darn quiet lately. Anyone else on here interview yesterday? Personally I was blown away--not so much by the facilities as the students (MS-1s and 2s all seemed happy, excited to be there) and the curriculum. (4 hours/day of class, 2 of which is a small-group "IQ" session) If you have to learn a crap-ton of information backwards and forwards in two years, this seems like just about the most humane possible way to do it. And not having to wait a super-long time to hear at least a preliminary decision is nice too.

Haha don't get me wrong, case was awesome, Im just not so sure about Cleveland. Also, it was raining the day I was there and I didnt get to go anywhere around town, so I'm genuinely interested in hearing what Cleveland has to offer.

Well, it was a nice sunny day when I visited Cleveland. The people I met in Cleveland were very nice. Some of the things I liked: cheap housing, Little Italy, museum, music (orchestra), restaurants, great hospitals, etc. I also sat next to this guy who has lived in Cleveland all his life on the plane, so he told me lots of great things about the city. Also, my shuttle driver basically gave me a tour around the University Circle, praising how great the city, Cleveland Clinic, and Case are.

I'm also from the middle of nowhere, so Cleveland might have seemed like a vibrant city from my point of view. The students seemed genuinely happy in Cleveland. The interviewer also told me it's a great (I think he said the best) city to live and raise your children (well, I don't have kids, but if you did).

The only complaint I can make with confidence is that it's a tragic city in which to be a sports fan. :laugh:
 
Which airport did you guys use and how did you get to Case from the airport?

Sigh. I am avoiding the answer. I know there are 6 layers to visual cortex... is it the visual cortex? Fighting the urge to google the answer!
 
Interviewed today at CCLCM. My mind = blown. This program, this place, this school: incredible.
 
My friend is a 1st year there and he said ~150 have been interviewed and that they plan on interviewing near 700. Can anyone confirm this?

I can't see with enough resolution. Might be because I am old? 😕

They're interviewing ~250 for the college program. My student host suggests they interview upwards of 800+ for the university track.

Im not going to lie, I only chose that avatar purely because I think Cajal's drawings are pretty cool.

I have a question. Did I understand this correctly? If we are initially put on post-interview hold for UP, then will we not hear anything again until March when they make the waitlist? Or could we hear back each time the committee meets?

Ah, yeah, Cleveland's not as pretty when you're getting rained on in your suit. Plus, that week was randomly in the 40s and 50s. Back up to the 60s and 70s now with amazingly clear (and consequently gorgeous!) skies. Is there a particular thing that you are interested in?

So! If you are headed to an interview with the University Program (inexplicably without stopping anywhere first), the Rapid (light rail) terminates within the Hopkins terminal, very conveniently. Take the red line east (you can't go west from there) to the Cedar/University Circle stop. Upon exiting the station (on Cedar Road), proceed to the intersection on your right (Murray Hill/Cedar to the east). Go up (north!) Murray Hill and stay left (Adelbert) when it forks. Cross the bridge (over the tracks) and (poof) you will have found the back end of south campus.

You have a couple of options from that point, but I imagine you probably won't hop off the RTA and then run to your interview. Unless you will, in which case you should tell me.🙂

Welllll, over at Case-actual, it ranges from 10ish on up to 30ish.

If you're referring to the UP, the last two years have seen about 900 interviews each.

😍 TOP I guess working the nightshift and being awake at weird hours on days off has it's advantages.

also, notice how Myuu says "they" referring to cleveland sports fans....instead of we, but says "we" when referring to other clevelander/Case related topics

Ok, soft serve story for you and myuu. I stopped at a Dairy Queen in Mitchell, SD (yeah I know, took a wrong turn at Albuquerque) and ordered a chocolate cone. The girl laughed at me and said, "This is DAIRY QUEEN, we don't have chocolate! Dairy Queen is vanilla!" I started looking around for the hidden camera and then figured out that they were actually serious, no chocolate!😱 What was also bizarre was that they refer to the cone as a Dairy Queen as in, "what size DQ do you want?" Haven't been back since and I'm still in counseling.:laugh:
 
Wait, wait. Since when does Dairy Queen not serve chocolate?

...and all this time I thought I was preferentially selecting chocolate-dipped cones... 🙁

I was in the backwoods of Ohio this weekend with a classmate, enjoying an ox-sandwich and apple fritters (whole OTHER story) when we stumbled across this:

^ My dad took the family there when I was a kid! No lie! All my friends got to go to Cedar Point, and I got.....Materials Park!!:laugh: "Hey look kids, it's chromium!!" "Dad, it's a rock..." Back in school my friends are all talking about the awesome coasters and I'm talking about some geodesic dome. Ahhhh, so THAT's why I am the way I am, eh? Yeah, that and my pocket protector and electrical taped glasses!:meanie:
