So for the rest of us... are we going to get a rejection/waitlist/on-hold email soon? I just really want an update.
 
Congrats on those accepted! This has to be the busiest/best thread on SDN.

I am hoping the committee is meeting this coming week despite the students leaving for winter break for the U track!

I just wanted to thank all of you for making this thread so interesting/informative!

I have been reading along for a while but waited until I was accepted to post (didn't want to get my hopes up just to be crushed...). 😍

Welllll, I spent five hours on a bus. And now I am sitting outside of Cinci's computer lab waiting for my ride. I didn't have a good CaseMed desktop, so I made one.😏

That bus ride doesn't sound very fun! Ha, nice. How long is your winter break? Have anything fun planned, or will you be preparing for Step 1's? Regardless, I hope you have a great one!👍

Studying for boards!

Actually, the bus ride was neat. Apparently, if you ride early enough, it stops in West Salem, OH, which is in Amish country. I looked up just in time to see the steam rise from a horse's nostrils.😱 As you can imagine, that caught me by surprise. Good looking horse, though!:laugh:
 
I just got accepted into the Class of 2016 Facebook group! I think that basically makes things pretty final. :-D

From last year's thread it looks like CCLCM acceptances went out in 3 batches. Maybe it's different this year?

They said at my interview that there would be two batches of acceptances this year. After that, acceptances go out when people withdraw, since CCLCM can't overadmit.
 
Will the next batch be just/mostly for people who interview after mid-December (or whenever the cutoff is)?

All interviews will be completed before the second full admissions committee meeting. All candidates will be reviewed/re-reviewed at that time.

Same thing here. I rode the bus down to Cinci last year when I interviewed for residency, and a whole bunch of Amish people got on the bus at the first stop. I had no idea before then that Amish people ride buses. Well, I guess it really WOULD take a long time to traverse the state of Ohio by horse and buggy, especially in the middle of the snow storm we were having at the time.

So I interviewed at CCLCM in the middle of November but I haven't heard anything yet and my status page doesn't say anything either. Would I have to wait until the second round of acceptances to hear anything or should I find out something within the next few days? Thanks!
 
So So SO SO excited to come to second-look for CCLCM! Interviewed November 10.

Who-hoo! To those accepted, congrats!

(BTW - I also look forward to Second Look. It will be a fun time. I look forward to meeting all the accepteess We usually go to a really nice bowling alley and reserve a private room with about 5 or 6 lanes. But we might "change it up" this year and do something else equally fun. 🙂)

Well, you may or may not hear anything at this stage. :shrug: I wish I could give you a more definitive answer. No news is good news at this stage, I suppose. The fact is, many people are still being considered and will be re-considered at the next full admissions committee meeting. Either way, IF there was an update to iApply - I wouldn't expect anything to be posted until after the New Year (even for those accepted) - since most of the offices are closed between then and now.

I don't have the schedule in front of me, but I believe the second round of decisions will be in mid-February. But to be clear - NOBODY interviews for a waitlist spot at CCLCM. The last interviewed candidate will be considered for one of the remaining 16 spots and will be reviewed at subcommittee and presented to the full-comittee. To reiterated: everyone will interview before the 'second batch' goes out.

Awesome, thanks for the info! I had been wondering if my Feb 6 date was going to be one of those "for the waitlist" dealies, so this is nice to hear.
 
I personally do not suscribe heavily to the US News rankings as a meaningful metric for judging medical schools, but I was asked by a fellow pre-med if the Case ranking includes both the 4 year and the 5 year program? The question only seems to have any relevance because the programs are fairly different (which would be relevant for the peer/residency evaluations, etc.), in my opinion. Any thoughts?

Where can I find some information about the second look weekend? I am definitely planning on going, but I'd like to know what it entails and if it is mandatory just in case something does come up. Also, I was wondering if I can bring my by-then wife. :-D

The date has not been set in stone yet. It is not mandatory. While you're welcome to bring your by-then wife (congrats!) to the social components (Friday night), the curricular components (the vast majority of the weekend) are for prospective students only.

Having been through the process, I can understand your excitement. It's not that cheesy. Good luck to ya.
 
I was among those accepted to Case (UP) last Wednesday (interview 11/28). Save for the early start date, I love everything about this school, even the essay exams! Unless I get a full-ride somewhere or am blown away at my next interview, I'm pretty sure I want to come to Case next year. I was a little disappointed to not get an interview with CCLCM because I too was attracted by the free tuition as well as the stronger emphasis on research, but after reading some of the posts here, I realized that it would have been a difficult "fit" for me. I'm actually pretty glad that things worked out the way they did.

Also, the latest Case newsletter does have the Second Look weekend date listed. It's scheduled for April 20 and 21, 2012. Perhaps it's different for CP though.

Speaking of CP differences, would it not be better if the UP and the CP tracks were separated into different threads next year? They're rather different programs in curriculum, grading, people, and environment. Sometimes, it's a bit tricky to distinguish what info is for CP and what is for UP. Just a suggestion.

How useful do you find the tablets during PBL? Do you vastly prefer them to normal laptops? Do you happen to know the make/models the school hands out now-a-days? Or how long the battery lasts?
I anticipate accessibility of information and streamlining ones search and sharing of it will make PBLs more useful and fun. I guess a more general question is what sort of technology or search engines do you guys find useful during these fast-paced group sessions?
 
Does Case accept pre-interview updates? If so, to whom are they addressed?

Ahh, good to know.

As to the thread(s), they're separated every year and almost no one uses the CP-only one, so here we are.

...It is in fact the couple of days right before the UP second look. That way, students accepted to both programs can attend both.

Duly noted. However, we are ALL case students, and I doubt it will happen (although I have no say in it either way). Information would be redundant between the two threads, anyways. I understand it can be confusing. :shrug: We are trying our best to keep the information straight. 🙂

I don't know of anyone who uses their PC in tablet mode during PBL, or even on the wards. I asked a graduate of CCLCM after 5 years with a tablet-converting PC when he ever used the tablet function. He recalled one time on the road stuffed in a car being able to pass the tablet to someone else between car seats as the only time he used it. 😛

I doubt ANYONE would ever say that they "vastly prefer" them to normal laptops.

We use HPs. Really, the laptops are decent, and they get the job done. They likely will change year-to-year. I cannot tell you what model they'll be next year. :shrug:

I think you are missing the point of PBL. Beyond the ocassional questions like "what is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis?", PBL time is not really about searching for things. In fact, many leaders limit the number of PCs to one or two during PBL so as to not distract from the group process.

Usually your learning happens outside of PBL and you bring what you learn back to the group to share.

On-line resources like wikipedia are frowned upon since they are not peer-reviewed. There are specific subscriptions that Case (and Cleveland Clinic) provide (e.g. UpToDate, MDConsult, and Lexicomp) as well as public databases (e.g. PubMed, NCBI, kegg pathways, etc) that are much more useful. You become proficient in utilizing these databases rather quickly.
 
would it be rude to call the cclcm and ask about my status? as in waitlisted, rejected...
