As much as I don't like to look too much into this whole match list business, this match has gotta be one of the sickest I have ever seen. 😱 Not surprising though consider the 240 step 1 average + proximity to Boston and the rest of New England (hence the insane number of MGH/BWH-Harvard matches)

Only 3 people staying at Dartmouth though? Is that due to a lack of IS people to begin with or is there another problem? (Or am I overanalyzing?)

v Good to know!

You're over-analyzing. Students matching with Dartmouth also do not necessarily come from the area.

Anyone know how well DMS students match? I tried looking for their match list but couldn't find it. It would be interesting to see how they do considering the school appears to have a really nice step 1 average (236-240, I think).

All I could find is the 2010 Step 1 average scores, has anyone seen the 2011 scores? Here is the link to the 2010 results in case someone hasn't reviewed it, and please post a link if you have official info on 2011 results-

Anyone who interviewed in March hear anything?

I interviewed March 13 and was accepted March 23🙂
Also, my numbers were well below avg #s for Dartmouth, and I am not from an underrepresented group. I hope this helps, and good luck!

That was really fast, do you know if anyone else that interviewed in march heard anything yet? I interviewed before you but haven't heard yet.

I also interviewed early march and haven't heard anything. People who interviewed on feb 28, just found out last Monday. So far I've seen admissions decisions being sent out on Monday and Friday. Maybe tomorrow will bring good news.

I interviewed in November and haven't heard anything ...

At this point, if you interviewed way before February and still haven't heard anything.. is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Dartmouth always says that no news is good news, so don't worry too much; there are plenty of people from last year's thread who interviewed early (e.g. September) and was accepted during the late March/early April wrap up.

Indeed. Interviewed mid-October. Should hopefully get news this week or next...

I got Wait-listed today 🙂! Joining the boat of individuals waiting for May.. good luck to all!

(Interviewed in December)

WL'ed this morning as well. Interviewed 2/28.
Good luck to everybody still waiting.

The interviews are over right? So now they're telling everybody up and sending letters?

Just called and the lady at the desk said letters are going out every day now.

So has anyone actually had a rejection, post-interview so far... I'm trying to figure out how many individuals are rejected and how many are wait-listed approx?

I was told "no news is good news" at my interview too, but seeing that no rejection has been sent yet (i.e. I might get rejected, accepted or waitlisted any day) is just as stressful.

Or at least no rejection has yet been reported on this thread.

JohnGalt/calidoc/bruin: no news for you today?

Ah, just got an email a few minutes ago: Wait Listed! Bummer...
(I feel like a deer that just got shot in the leg by a hunter, instead of the head 🙄)

Best of luck to everyone still waiting!
Stay cool. 😎

Seems like several people were waitlisted :/

I interviewed earlier this year and have been anxiously waiting for some love from this school. So far I haven't heard a word.

Good luck to everyone else hoping to matriculate at DMS!

I think there is a lot of waitlist movement. Hang in there!

I got wait listed this morning. Bummer. My interview went really well and I really like the school.

Any idea how many people are on the wait list?

I'm going to be applying to Dartmouth in the next application cycle, and I was hoping that you guys could give me some idea of where I stand. Dartmouth is my first choice by far, and I'm really stressing out about how difficult it is to get in.

As far as numbers are concerned,
GPA ~ 3.8+
MCAT ~ high 30s

GPA has a significant uptrend, with a relatively weak first semester (3.5). My mum passed away 10 days into that first semester after a long fight with brain cancer.

Volunteering:
Volunteering at a summer camp for kids/teens who have lost loved ones (comfort zone camp)
Will have 130+ hours at the local hospital with the "personal touch program," significant patient interaction

Shadowing:
50+ hours total, including 30+ with the neurosurgeon who treated my mum, who has become a close friend and will be writing an LOR

Research:
Will have one year in the undergrad biology department, no publications

Leadership:
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club president, 3 years (a fairly large club that has grown under my leadership). This includes a lot of teaching of newer members.

Teaching:
Supplemental Instruction leader for undergrad classes (basically a TA)

Hobbies/avocations:
Purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (a fairly high rank)
I have competed in and won tournaments across the country

I would really appreciate it if some of you who were accepted, interviewed, or rejected could let me know where I stand here. Thanks in advance for your help.

*Addendum: Those of you who did get accepted, was there anything on your application that you feel really made you stand out? Unique situation, activity, etc?

I have similar numbers to you and I have a lot of extracurriculars too and I just got wait listed. My advice to you is apply broadly.

Any accepted applicants thinking of giving up their spot?

calidoc10, did you hear by post mail or email? I interviewed early March and no word on my end.

Totally felt the same way when I got waitlisted... I'm really hoping for some movement as this is by far the school I would attend if accepted! Just have to wait for May to come around... :scared:

Ya it sucks. But then again, they interviewed something like 600+ people for about 80 spots.

Still nothing on my end... but it looks like that people are only reporting waitlists now 🙁 sigh....

international and interviewed early feb

Cynicalbrit - I think you'll be in a fantastic position. Best of luck on the cycle, I'm sure you'll do very well.

This is a bit of a repeat from an earlier post, but I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted has any specific things that they feel made them stand out, i.e. a unique experience or activity, etc.

Are you by any chance a brazillian jiu jitsu world champion...?

Not even close. None of the current world class, top-level BJJ competitors are the sort of people you're likely to see applying to medical school. They're the sort of people who have been training every day since they were 5 for BJJ and only BJJ. This most certainly doesn't include me, though I am quite proud of my athletic accomplishments.

Edit: and technically, they isn't a "world champion" as such. There's ADCC, IBJJF and so on that are generally help to be "world championships"

. . . . and I feel this is getting slightly off topic for this thread . . .

I do apologize for diverting the thread a bit. It's just quite a striking coincidence, see, this guy posted on another thread:

What if all my hard work end up not being worth it in the end?

I'm a Junior Chemical Engineering major.
Chemistry and Mathematics minor.
3.8 GPA.
2 years of undergrad research, published.
1 year volunteer at the Intensive Care Unit.
3 summers of physician shadowing.
Treasurer of the Chemistry Club in campus.

Brazilian Jiu jitsu World Champion.
Golden Gloves winner (boxing).
4 years of Lifeguarding.

Have not taken my MCAT yet..

I'm just really glad I still have time for my girlfriend even though I always seemed busy on paper.

and naturally I was surprised to see what apparently are 2 BJJ superstars applying this year. Well, there's your competition for the "BJJ niche applicant of 2012" spot lol.

Whatever applicant claimed to be a BJJ world champion is talking a massive load of ****.

They should let you guys spar during the interview, and whoever wins gets in

A charming thought, but I suppose if he really is a world champion, that may not be good news for me . . .

Still no words from Dartmouth. 🙁 However, I phoned the admissions office today. The good news is that there are still acceptances to be handed out.

And one new day of waiting starts for us.
