And one new day of waiting starts for us.

this whole concept is completely stupid. why can't they just release everything (acceptances/rejections/waitlists) on the same day by email and let everyone know that date (like Yale)?

i think we can both agree that the constant waiting and not knowing is immensely more stressful than knowing for sure the date when decisions will be released.

The current system does help some people out. I got my acceptance at the end of November/early December in the year I applied and that allowed me to cancel interviews I had lined up for late Jan/early February. It's not that they don't make any decisions until the end of the cycle, it's just that the people in the middle of the interviewee pool don't hear until rather late.

I agree with you. My first acceptance came around the same time as yours and that allowed me to cancel other interviews I had lined up for. However, is it really that difficult to have set dates for rolling acceptances (as in WashU, on certain Fridays acceptances are released and only those dates which were published) so that people don't have to be stressed out over decisions on a day-to-day basis?

I think this is why a lot of wait-list movement is seen though, due to their later process, it really weeds out who wants to be here/is willing to wait for it and diversifies the educational backgrounds of the class because of later acceptances... but trust me the stress is definitely killer!

* crickets chirping *

I'm slowly entering a painful state of delirium.

Waitlisted. It must be tough to get in here 👎

According to their email: "Historically we have experienced wide variation in Waiting List activity from year to year, but in general we plan to admit additional candidates. In some years the number is small; in others, close to two dozen." So if they waitlist 200 students, it's only about a 10% chance.

+1 for good news today

Chrome19 I am sorry to hear that man 🙁 but may i ask when you got your waitlist email and when you interviewed?

If one doesn't have an acceptance or is admitted to a place he/she doesn't like, perhaps one can hope to get off the list. I have been waitlisted at two places but admitted to a place I could easily see myself attending. So I'm not too bummed about it. But I hope to get off the waitlist, and then attend Dartmouth :xf:

I have an interview at Penn State which I will attend "just to see".

Oh, March interviewee, email came today around noon. Back to my reading--lots of it.

🙁 Two dozens seem rather few. Then again, it's still better than being rejected.

I guess delaying decisions and giving out acceptances that gradually makes them able to send almost exactly the right number of them.

I interviewed recently (3/20) and remember being told that prior to May 15 Dartmouth offers around 200 acceptances. Once the 15th rolls around and they get a better idea of how many accept the offer, they start making offers to those on the waitlist. Bill Brown told us that when all was said and done, generally around 300 offers go out. Perhaps the 24 they are referring to are the number of people who actually attend after being waitlisted and then offered a spot.

Interesting....but I thought that they do not over accept?

Either way, still nothing on my end (interviewed beginning of Feb; international student).... 🙁

Anyone else got reply of any kind (accept/waitlists/rejects) from Dartmouth today besides Chrome16?

I got waitlisted as well earlier today. Interviewed in early December.

I guess they know enough about the percentage of folks that are accepted who will matriculate to be certain that 200 will not fill all the slots.

Going through the previous posts, it appears that a lot of us have been wait-listed... does anyone who has recently interviewed know approx. how many people they do wait-list?

I have a feeling that no more acceptances will be.released and that we are just on a long waitlist 🙁

Very true. I was just trying to get an idea of when it was written; the only evidence I could find of a date was the "spring00" in the URL.

I think there'll be some waitlist movement. The question is how much ... let's hope for some good news in May.

If the committee meets twice a month, why have waitlist decisions been sent out over the past three days?

I understand that applicant withdrawals could potentially explain some of this dynamic.

I just thought of an interesting hypothesis relating to the admission cycle results this week.

I think that the later you receive a notification, the higher you are on the waitlist. Obviously, there will be some people who decline acceptances late March/early April due to other acceptances elsewhere (especially in Top 30 schools like Dartmouth). As a result, it naturally makes sense, from an administrative perspective, to send these acceptances to others next on the applicant ranking.

Of course, it is possible to waitlist the next applicant on the list first then wait till May 15th. However, that wouldn't be very efficient would it? Plus, it may lower Dartmouth's yield rate (since people may be less interested to attend).

As a result, for those ranked higher, they are held until late March/Early April in case someone decides to withdraw from Dartmouth and an offer of acceptance can be offer to the next on the list.

What do you guys think? (obviously my self-justification for not receiving anything to date )

I developed the same hypothesis this week! I have also not received word and interviewed in March. This theory helps me hold onto my sanity.

Really not sure what to make of the lack of post-interview rejections to balance earlier acceptances. It seems to throw the entire system as described out of whack.

If you mean we don't see a lot of people posting their rejections here on SDN, I think it's only because people are more willing to post acceptances.

Tomorrow is coming... another day of anticipation and horror. :bang:

+1, although the theory makes sense it's mostly just us trying to make us feel better.

We could just be that batch of interviewers who failed so badly that Dartmouth felt too impolite to reject us the day after we interviewed.

I agree with you Lunt. That was actually the second part of my hypothesis. It is also possible that people who are rejected are held till later. It explains why, so far, there hasn't been anyone posting any post-interview rejections. but yeah i sorta lost 95% of my confidence of being able to predict stuff after yale rejection when I thought that the interview went pretty darn good hahaha 🙁

This entire process has been one hell of a rollarcoaster ride.

I've passed the 200-day mark this week!

Well, take what you have (a top 20 school already no?) and don't worry about what you don't. Since there's nothing I can do right now, I've been telling myself I'm rejected so that I don't feel bad in case I actually am.

I interviewed on Sept 8th, the second available date, back when trees were still green :luck:.

Hey all,

I interviewed march 13th and still no word yet. I am actually a NH resident (don't know if that matters?) and I work at Dartmouth Medical School (since october 2010) Dartmouth was my only interview of the 29 schools I applied to and I really want to go here so I am reaaaaally hoping that the lack of news is good news and there are still spots available!

I also interviewed on the 13th. The suspense is a killer. Staying positive though.

Accepted! Interviewed mid-March. Looks like there are still acceptances out there!

Waitlisted! Hm. interesting! i interviewed in december...Odds are very high that i'll be pulling out of this list soon though.

🙂

Waitlisted, interviewed march 13...that was a fast decision yo...didnt even have time to send a thank you card (or maybe thats just cus I procrastinated) ahha...

CYA kids.

Waitlisted. Will withdraw from waitlist though. Best of luck to all.

Was March 20th the last interview day? If the people from the 13th are getting decisions today, we're probably gonna get ours soon. I'm guessing either a waitlist before they finish all the files or an acceptance/rejection after they finish.

From last year's thread all decisions were sent by April 12th but some people didnn't get their waitlist email. Nothing to help us 🙁

Accepted as well! Email came at 2:55 pm today, interviewed way back in October XD

I thought they lost my file or something...
