GOOOD LUCK!

I'm nervous- my interview is friday!!

For those of you who have interviewed- I know it is closed folder but did you offer a resume?? Thanks

Thanks!

I took a copy of my resume to my interview, but they didn't ask for it, nor did I offer it to them. The interview was very laid back, and mostly about why I wanted to go into medicine, what would make me a good doctor, and why I wanted to go to GW. It's pretty conversational, so just relax when you're there and you'll do great!

Good luck on Friday :luck:

I just sent an update letter which also shows some intentions. I hope for the best!

I hope it is common to get drinks after the interview. I really want to experience the city before I leave. Lol

did anyone email their application and if yes which email did you send it to?

Yes, I e-mailed it and was complete the following day. From the Secondary Application web page they send you a link to:

If you are unable to use the mail or would prefer not to, you are also welcome to fax your completed secondary to 202-994-1753 or send a scanned copy (w/ original signature) to [email protected]

Slev,

Just wanted to tell you how IMPRESSIVE your mdprofiles page was! I was :O the whole time. It takes a lot to start from a scratch..hats off to your patience and dedication! 👍👍

On a different note, so excited to interview here! I love DC so much!!!

I'm put on hold for re-review. So, what are the chances guys? So sad 🙁

Serenade...there are A LOT of us in the same boat. I think GWU tends to put a lot on re-review, but its certainly not as good as an invite. There is hope though, if you look back through the threads there are people who were put on re-review that eventually got interviews. Good luck.

Thanks R1MD. I hope that is also the case for me. Here goes a sad weekend 🙂

I think everyone gets re-reviewed lol I haven't read or heard of a single pre-interview rejection yet.

Can anyone who has already interviewed at GW share some insight on the day? It would be greatly appreciated since I have one coming up real soon. Getting a bit nervous!

Try not to be nervous! The interview day for me was a welcome by the dean, tour of the school/hospital, presentations by financial aid and office of student opportunities, followed by lunch. We were basically in one room for most of this. At the beginning of the day you are given your interview times. After lunch the interviewers come get you. Each of my interviews were only about 20 min long (and a lot of that time the interviewers spent talking about why GW is great). I was asked Why GW, Why medicine and not much else really!

I'm interviewing next Friday -- I found this very helpful http://www.studentdoctor.net/schools/school/gwu/survey/26

Thanks for the link/info. Definitely helps!

The day is structured to be informal and relaxed, and it's nice the interviewers come to get you so you don't have to track them down! Like hurricane said, you'll need to answer why medicine and why GW, which should be easy!

The students all seemed really happy, even the 3rd years that stopped by. Everyone kept emphasizing how collaborative their classmates were, almost to the point of overemphasizing 🙂

On Hold for Re-Review. Once you get complete they decide relatively fast.

this stuff is very unpredictable

I just checked my status and I'm on re-review! I'm in a panic. What does this really mean???!!!! I have a 3.6 and balanced 36 MCAT. All my recommenders are associate professors of medicine at GW.

WHHHHHHHYYYYYYY?

The advice I was given before applying is -- that the application process is a CRAPSHOOT. There is no method to the madness. There is no way to predict it or control it, soo just stay calm and see what happens...

Maybe you didn't apply early enough? there could be hundreds of reasons..... GW and Gtown don't really care too much about stats. I have seen people that applied extremely early with way worse stats than yours and received an early interview.

You probably applied a little late, I got an interview from re-review though so don't lose hope. My GPA is lower than yours by quite a bit and my MCAT score is a 30-32 (on a retake) not well-balanced though. GW takes it's time because there are so many applicants and they like reading other components such as personal essays, ECs and LORs. So, hopefully your ECs and personal essay were very impressive.

I second this. I mean, for a school that gets approx. 14,000 applications a year for under 200 spots, someone could be more than qualified and still not get an interview. Why is that surprising? There are only so many spots...and there are SO many applicants.

On another note, I also got put on "re-review" yesterday...:xf: Hope it works out for all of us!

Here's some hope for you guys 🙂

Just got an interview invite off of re-review (since about early July)

3.92 GPA, 34R MCAT

Yea I wasn't sure if it meant anything...I sent a Thank you/letter of interest yesterday and received that email this morning so I didn't know if it was sent to everyone or in regard to my email. Hopefully it is an indicator of getting in! lol. I would love to go here, though. Great campus and program, excellent people, and wonderful city.

i rather not say but it was early in the process...still think i was really lucky to land an interview in the midst of 10k+ applicants! i think it just may be a general response but it is sort of unnecessary on their part so maybe it is a good sign...

Yes I Also received the thank you email (and sent my thank you on Monday haha). I thought it was for me because it was from Dean McQuail and she was my faculty interviewer. Anyways, it was nice for them to thank us!

Best of luck to all 🙂

FOR ALL OF YOU THAT HAVE BEEN ON HOLD FOR A WHILE

I was put on hold in June (GW was the first school I was complete at) and basically lost hope that I would get an interview here. Just got home today from another interview and I found an invitation from GW 🙂 Don't lose hope

Got a bit nervous when I got the email, I interviewed about 2 weeks ago and I absolutely loved the school! I cannot wait to hear back from them.

Yeah, I think it's something general they do 🙂 Does anyone know when they send out acceptances by any chance? Is it after Oct. 15th, or sooner? I've heard some school send them out sooner than that. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that AMCAS forbids participating schools from sending out acceptances prior to Oct. 15th. It's possible that the schools that you are thinking of are TMDSAS schools?

Where did you hear this? I've seen MDapps of applicants who were accepted prior to Oct. 15 in previous years, but that could be irrelevant for this year.

Also, where is everyone getting this Oct 15th date? I've seen it mentioned in several school-specific threads, and find it curious that so many schools are going by a similar timeline.

The Oct 15 date is an AAMC common date agreed to by all the schools to participate in AMCAS.

Early decision applicants are notified before Oct. 15

DO schools under AACOMAS do not adhere to the same schedule.

Well, at a recent interview the admissions director stated that it's "AMCAS trafficking rules" that prohibits schools from releasing admissions decisions prior to October 15th except for ED applicants. Schools can choose to hold the information longer, but they can't admit applicants prior to this date. This is common for all schools that use AMCAS. That's why Oct 15th is going to be such an exciting day for many people!

Indeed, however GW said that decisions might take 8-10 weeks, potentially meaning that the first batch of interviewees might not have decisions by Oct 15. Also, the 15th is on a Saturday, and many schools tend to make calls to give acceptances and I don't see that happening during the weekend.

Hey guys, so I mailed my secondary app last week and was wondering if they send you an email when they receive and/or when you've complete. Thanks!

I got an email when the secondary was received and when my file was marked complete. I believe it took about a week to get the first email. Sadly, I was promptly put on hold for re-review after being marked complete.
Good Luck!

Thanks elblackwell! good luck to you too! 🙂

For those that already interviewed: what time do you guys arrive? It says the day starts at 9:15 -- but how much earlier do they want us there? I know some places don't want you there too much ahead of time... thanks!
