Wow, this is exciting, congrats to everyone accepted! I thought they said 8 weeks, but I guess they work faster than that. I think I may have interviewed a bit late for this round so still :xf: for the next round.

Did anyone interviewed after Sept 20th got the acceptance?

Hey Everyone,

I have an interview at GWU next Tues! I am really nervous for my first (and currently only) interview, but also really excited!!! I hope we all get in. Any advice/people going the same day posts welcome.

😀

GOOD LUCK!

Anyone know what happens if you don't hear back? Does that mean rejection? or does that mean hold pending? i'm a little confused....I interviewed around the 14th...

Definitely take some time to explore DC. in addition, be prepared for a short interview day. interviews will be of a faculty member and a 2nd/3rd/4th yr student. pretty generic questions though. very laid back.

Thanks for your feedback! I've been sifting through the questions from the specific GWU site, do you see any glaring holes in this list?

1. What is the biggest problem facing medicine today?
2. What are 3 strengths and three weaknesses of yours?
3. Where do you see yourself in 15 years?
4. Which specialty and why?
5. Why GWU?
6. Why should we be interested in you?
7. Why medicine?
8. Tell me about yourself.

I had some of these questions with a few random ones thrown in. I would just relax because you can't rehearse some of the questions I got. Like, if you woke up tomorrow, didn't have work or school, what would you do with your day. Or if you could be on the cover of any magazine, which magazine and what would the headline say? They all still answer basic questions about your interests but it beats the question "tell me about yourself?" and it lightens the mood of the interview.

does anyone know when the next batch of acceptances go out or is it just somewhat random? ie is there like a set date say next monday when the next batch goes out? (if that even made any sense)

Freaking re-review. GW was the one school I was sure I'd get an interview at (lowest stats out of the schools I'm applying to), and now I'm on re-review! I've gotten interview invites at UNC and Pitt, which are both definitely harder to get into than GW. And my friend who has a significantly better resume, MCAT score, and GPA is on re-review too! And she got a "Highest Recommendation" from our Pre-Med Committee, and we go to a top-tier undergrad school! Why, GW, why?! =(

Lowest stats out of your list does not equal guaranteed interview. There are probably many various factors influencing who they pick to interview.

If schools interviewed every applicant with stats above their average, every school would be interviewing thousands of applicants.

This is what I liked best about GW. They told us straight-up at the interview that if you are numbers-obsessed this is not the school for you. GW is all about training great clinicians and they don't really care about national rankings or one-dimensional applicants with stellar stats.

Best of luck Mohnoes, hope you have a fantastic time at "a school that is definitley harder to get into than GW"

For those of you that were accepted, I don't see anything in the letter about an initial deposit (which I believed was $100). All I see is the $1000 tuition prepayment which is due by May 22nd. Does anyone know if were supposed to send in a deposit with this Offer of Acceptance form?

Woohoo! I just got the acceptance email this morning! Interviewed September 2.

No change on the status page.

Was there an attachment on your email? My message says see the Notification of Acceptance form, but I don't have any attachments : /

The Notice of Acceptance form comes with your snail mail acceptance letter. And I just called admission asking about the deposit. This year they only have the $1000 tuition prepayment due by May 22nd.

Ah, it seems I came off the wrong way. One-dimensionality and stats are not what I'm about; the process has just begun to be frustrating after weeks and weeks of waiting. It starts to seem a little arbitrary when one of my best friends, who seems like the perfect candidate in every way - passionate, driven, great essays, service, research, clinical experience, leadership, grades, MCAT, has been told repeatedly by professors that she'll get in to any med school she wants, etc etc etc - doesn't get an interview. Personally, I don't think my stats have gotten me any interviews because they're not amazing. I don't think I've applied to any schools that are all about stats and don't care about people. It really just confuses me that schools with similar values and higher rankings would get back to me so much faster.
I don't know. I was just looking for a place to rant. I apologize if I offended anyone.

Mohnoes, you are totally right it is a very arbitrary and messed up system. I'm sorry if my comment was a bit brusque and I didn’t mean to make any judgments about you or your friend. I’m becoming frustrated and disillusioned by the experience too. There is no way that an admission system where students apply to 20-30 schools and schools get tens of thousands of applicants for a 100 odd spaces can be efficient or fair. I'm starting to doubt if this system is very good at selecting the best future doctors, but it does seem exceptional at attracting application revenue, padding a schools stats and allowing them to boast of ultra low admission rates. I wonder what would happen if students could only apply to 8-10 schools or there was a match system like for residency.

Again sorry for my crabby comment – it’s just that in my case GW has been one of the only schools that’s actually treated me like a person - so got a little defensive. Best of luck to you and your friend, if you are as well qualified as you sound you will do amazing things with your lives. Don’t let some faceless, archaic admission system define you!

Alternate list. Boo 🙁 interviewed 9/23...

... is GWs alternate list a wait list or it one of those lists where adcom continuously considers alternates during their meetiings?!

sorry to hear that. i think it's a waitlist but im not 100% positive. when did you hear back and was it via snail mail or email?

You thought it would be a guaranteed interview....are you serious?

Same here. It says that status doesn't typically change untll Spring :/

Does anyone know the chances of getting off the alternate list?

That is quick turn around... definitely not 8-10 weeks like they said...

So I've looked at other threads from previous years and it seems like the alternate list doesn't see any movement until after May 15, so about 7 months from now. Does anyone know if there's any movement before then? And does everyone who is not accepted end up on the alternate list? I'm really nervous because after GWU, I only have one other school I interviewed and thought that my GWU interview went even better. I'm thinking of calling/emailing soon to clarify what the timeline is ... Spring can mean anywhere from March to May. Plus I don't have any grades to report since I'm not in school, I'm just working and volunteering like I was when I did my interview.

And if anyone from GW is reading, the wording of the email is really weird. I started getting excited when I read "The committee is pleased to inform you..." until it got to the word "alternate." false hope, thought I'd see the word "accepted" 🙁

when did you interview? yea that's a weird way to start an alternate list email, but you never know there could be a lot of movement on the list. You should ask them since you interviewed early, do you have a better chance of getting off the list?

That is one cruel way to let someone know they are on the waiting list after interviewing. Sorry to hear it and best of luck on your other decisions.

I interviewed about a month ago, so not really early but still a September interview. The email makes it seem that a lot of people end up making it off the alternate list.

Yea you never know, i would keep updating them and showing interest at least once a month. maybe send an intent letter latter on in the cycle, if GW is your top choice.

It seems like a lot of people get alternate listed at this school..which is another endless cycle of waiting. I have started to feel completely drained at this point and haven't even heard from 50% of schools I applied to. Phew.

I'm drained and I haven't heard back from 75% of my schools... I feel ya though. This is a long and tiring process, hopefully it's so worth it in the end.

anymore acceptances? i guessed they came out with some last monday. i thot there would be more this monday...

I was hoping to hear something today as well. Interviewed mid-Sept. Did you interview recently too?
