Submitted Secondary 10/24
Complete Email 10/26
Placed on re-review (via status page) 11/22

32/3.6

Am I out of the running?? I see a few people that have been given IIs after being placed on hold for re-review first. Is that pretty common? Did those of you that received IIs after the re-review status send updates and/or letters of interest?

I was complete 10/17, received a status update email stating i was put in the re-review category on 10/19. Still waiting for a decision...the anxiety is growing by the minute!

Hi!

I was hoping to get some input on the secondary app maybe from some current students or anyone who would have a good understanding of this:

For my interest in the MD program and my experiences that make me good for it, I chose to focus on:

-the objectives to produce physician citizens..and then my community work
-emphasis on global health, specifically the international electives...and then my work in global health
-ability to participate in health policy..and my advocacy/leadership roles

This is what really intrigues me about this school after reading a lot about it and has made it probably one of my top choices. However, is this to specific? Am I misunderstanding GW's objectives?

Thanks in advance!

Anyone hear anything from GWU post-interview lately?/knows when decisions usually come out?

Congrats to everyone that's been accepted! You all deserve it 🙂
Would anyone like to give additional feedback on the interview day? What did you think of the school? Your thoughts on anything would be greatly appreciated!

Interview invite 11/17- still in shock, never thought I'd make it here.
31 MCAT balanced
3.3 cgpa
3.5 SMP gpa

I thought the interview day was great and really chill. They provide lots of opportunities to ask questions and talk to students. The only thing I don't like is the fact that the interviews are completely blind- be prepared for the "tell me about yourself" question.

Sounds good to me!! They emphasized a lot of those things on the interview day, so I would say that is a good call.
I would also add that, imo, you can't be too specific. I'm afraid that the reason I got alternated after my interview is because I didn't show that my passion was specific to GWU.

Guys, I was put on re-review then I checked my status today and it read:

"Your application is complete and under review by the committee. Correspondence concerning the status of your application will be emailed to you shortly."

Is this a rejection?

Interesting...please update if you do receive something. I have been on re-review since July, no status change yet.

For those of you who received a status online that says something about correspondence being emailed shortly...does this tend to turn into a rejection or an interview invite?

I tried using the search function on the thread but was not able to discern much from this.

oh I just tried searching again and it seems like some people who got this status did end up getting interviews! crossing my fingers... 🙂

Just received an acceptance from GW via email! Interviewed on 11/1 for those looking for a general timeline. They said letter packet was to follow.

Wow, I guess they are coming within ~4 weeks. :scared: I interviewed the same day, keeping my :xf: for some good news.

Will keep my fingers crossed for u too. I think the timing has more to do with how long it takes for individual interviewers to turn in their "reports." Best of luck through the whole process!

When was that? I saw the status update yesterday but I still haven't received anything. Did you send them an update letter after you were put on re-review?

Yes I did. Send them a letter of interest/update (if any).

received an acceptance email today too! i am SO excited! I will actually be going to medical school 🙂

Since they are rolling, it is worth submitting a secondary this late in the game?

Congrats Omelas! Judging by your mdapps page, I'm guessing you will be receiving plenty of acceptances over the next month or two...

Haha the irony of your signature.

Yeah, I know, but this is more of a money question. It is a spendy secondary and if they have already given out most of their spots, it might be a total waste of money. I have already applied to a ton of schools and was just considering adding a few more is all.

i know most ppl say go for it, but considering how many people have applied that are still on hold for re-review, i'ds ay unless you're an AWESOME applicant or have ties to the school, applying this late probably won't help you much / it's not worth the $125. however, that's just my opinion!

Congrats on the invite! Did you mean that your status changed yesterday and you got the invite yesterday? Or did this happen a while ago for you?

If I wanted to send a letter of interest, should I just send it to the update email address ([email protected]). I have no interviews in the area and no plans to go to D.C. in the near future, just want to send a letter telling them I'm interested.
What exactly is a letter on interest? This is the first I'm reading of this.

Thanks,

Chris

I have been on re-review for over a month now. Do some people get flat out rejected after submitting their secondaries or is re-review the "worst" possibility?

It seems like everybody is re-reviewed.

They do flat out reject people, so it could be worse! I've been on re-review for a while now, but I do know people that have been rejected w/o re-review

Just interviewed at GWU Med today and had such an amazing experience. The students were SUPER nice, all of the candidates that were interviewing were amazing, and DC is awesome!!!!!!

Based on a few people who interviewed in early november and have been accepted, it seems my file (interviewed late October) has been skipped over post-interview. Does this mean that I probably didn't get accepted and they're just holding off on the bad news or that I am reading too much into it all?

Anyone else have a similar situation?

Does anyone (or current MS1/MS2s) have a detailed sense of how the curriculum is laid out. Class M-F 8-5pm?

How is it structured if you choose a track? Thanks!

Hey guys! Not sure where else to post this but I am looking for a med school roommate next year at GW. Message me if you are interested! I am leaving the country in a month to travel for 6 months, thats why I need to find someone soon!! 😀

Hi, I have an interview coming up soon. (Dec 16).
I have questions for those who have interviewed at GW.

Q1. Approximately, how many questions did you receive throughout 25-minutes interview?

Q2. How long should each answer be? (i.e. "Tell me about yourself": for how long the interviewers usually expect us to answer that question? 2 minutes? 5 minutes?)

From reading other GW applicants' posts and SDN Interview Feedback page, I understand that it is much like conversation.
I am not trying to memorize my answers but I wanted to see how long I should answer each question.
Of course if I sense that my interviewer seems bored, I would be flexible in my approach and make it short and sweet. And I understand that it is quality over quantity (or length).

Any comment/advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! 🙂

All the best for those who are waiting to hear from GW! 👍

Hi, i faxed in my secondary yesterday but haven't received an email about them getting it? Should I call in to confirm that they got it?

I am interviewing at GW on 1/13/12. Are there medical students (preferably female) on this site who might be willing to host me for a night? I will be much indebted to you!

for those who have been on rereview for a while...DO NOT GIVE UP HOPE. I have been on rereview since the end of August and JUST received an interview invitation today!

if GW is truly what you want, don't give up!

Congratulations! Did you send in an update letter or anything or did they actually just re-review your application?

I really want to go to this school, but I am not sure how letter of intents and update letter's work? Can someone provide me more info on this? I'm thinking that its just "I really wanna go here please consider me" type thing

I was just complete for my secondary yesterday lol, but again I really really wanna go here so should I send in a letter of intent sometime soon? Like in a week? What type of things should this letter consist of?

When I interviewed, I emailed the admissions coordinator who put me in contact with the student in charge of hosting. The hosting program at GW is completely voluntary and they warned me that a host might not be available--but one was and it was a really easy process. So, I'd email the coordinator, if you haven't already, and tell her you're interested in staying with a student host.

thank you so much, tory! i sent in an update letter at the end of november, yes.

Good to know, thanks for posting. I have been on hold since the end of July and I also sent an update at the end of November. :xf:

is it a good idea to mention that you already got accepted to another medical school and seriously consider GW? I guess that makes a good case but then I don't know if it's a good idea. has anyone done the letter this way?

I've been on pre- interview re-review for the past month, and since GW is my top school, I was thinking of submitting an update letter. However, I'm having trouble deciding what exactly should be mentioned in the letter; I feel that just mentioning my interest in the school isn't sufficient. Any ideas or tips on what I should include in this letter? Thanks!
