Same weird email here. Are they really that desperate to need a backup pool not even for admission but for interviews?

It's like the school has separation anxiety. "I'm going to put you on hold....wait..keep waiting...can't let you go yet, waitlist for an interview...rejection (wait come back)!"

I got the same weird e-mail today. I don't even know what it means -- am I really on a pre-interview wait-list? This is my favorite part of the e-mail:

"Although this does not end what we are sure is an unpleasant waiting period for you, your desire to become a physician, your understanding of the requirements, and your perseverance are commendable."

Translation: We've been stringing you along since the beginning of August, so why stop now?

Got the same email... been on hold since August. Seems like they sent out a LOT of these. I like how they underlined "very slim".

I think they are just trying to get rid of the people who already have acceptances and/or aren't completed committed to attending GW.

I got the email too. Ugh, I just sent them an interest letter too. Do I have to write a completely new one for this email too?

I got this email today as well. I decided not to send the letter. Best of luck to everyone else!

Received the same "very slim chances" but "take some more time to tell us why you like us" message.

I got the same email...so weird, especially the "unpleasant waiting period" part.

Also got the weird email. Seems like this went out to hundreds of people...not really expecting anything to come out of this, but I sent in the info they asked for.

I'm thinking they haven't ended the interview season and they just want to see who to invite for the last month....

Right? Wasnt impressed

I agree. This letter really decreases my desire to go to GW. I'd rather go somewhere that wants me enough to not put me on a waitlist for an interview.

+1, it's an easy enough way to eliminate a large number of applicants that have been on pre-interview hold for months.

While I agree with most of you that this waitlist for the interview is not just annoying but hurtful, I'm gonna play a little devil's advocate...

This school gets a ridiculous amount of applications, being one of the schools that get the greatest number of applications. With over 13,000 people applying for one institution, they cannot be limited to "great applicants" but "great applicants who REALLY want to be here" Imagine if you were on that committee..how do you choose one over another in terms of similar stats and comparable experiences? Answer: how strongly they feel about the institution, its mission, and will mesh with the class.

I wouldn't give up. If GW is really the school you want to attend with your whole heart, then tell them that. And tell them how well you'll fit in with the opportunities there, the community, and the rest of the class. But if GW is just another school to you, you are destined to go to the school that you ARE in love with.

Just my .02...don't mean to hurt anyone or cause issues by saying this. I hope it all finds you well.

well said, this is my sentiment as well. good luck to you!

I wouldn't give up so quick...there are only 70ish people in the official group...seems like about half the class still to go!!

So many people get alternated...dang, I'm sorry. Did you just find out today? Best of luck to you.

if this school is our top choice...would it better to call dr. schroth and tell them about our intent/interest or better to send in a letter of intent?

Letter, they dont have time to hear that. Would piss me off if i was dean.

Med school admissions is so cold blooded; you have to somehow learn to not take it personally even when you want it so bad. Thankfully this is the toughest step for simply getting in during the road to becoming a doctor.

This is so true, you just have to have a positive attitude and hopefully positive outcomes will follow.

Last year a couple of SDNers got II's after that LOI Email. I sent my LOI in today.

Has anyone who interviewed after January 6th heard back regarding a decision?

I don't think people after Jan 6th should expect it now. They said expect a response 8-10 weeks after the interview, that means, Mid March or later. Any thing earlier would be ice cream on the cake, but we shouldn't expect it to be the standard.

Interviewed 1/13. Accepted 2/21.

Has anyone who interviewed 1/20 heard back yet?

Congrats on the recent acceptances, everyone! You're all making me nervous now though. 😛

Congratulations!!! To those of you who were accepted, did your status on the online status page change and if so, to what?

Same thing here....interviewed Jan 4th (>36 MCAT and >3.9 GPA) after delaying my interview invite from December 2nd......

not a peep yet from George Washington. 😕

I was interviewed on Jan 6th and got an acceptance on Feb 6th. I am in the process of deciding but I think I am going to decline. Hope this helps someone on the waitlist!

Can an accepted student comment on what your status page says?

Status page? I didn't even know we had one. I got an email from them basically saying "congrats!" And then a week later I got an acceptance packet... and a week after that I got a tshirt in the mail.

Once your sign your acceptance form your status changes again, this may be why you havent gotten an answer (people cannot check/remember). :luck:

Does anyone know what day of the week the admissions committee meets ?

Received an email this afternoon about being placed on the alternate list. 1/20 interview.

I'll continue holding out hope tomorrow--right now, this one stings. 🙁

I will be withdrawing my acceptance due to the fact that GW requires financial information on the FAFSA from BOTH natural (living) parents (or requires that you go through an appeal process). http://www.gwumc.edu/smhs/Fin-Aid/application/appeal.html I feel pretty dumb for not having picked up on this yet but out of all of the schools that I have applied to, GW is the only one to not allow me to provide my step-father's information in place of my natural father's. Wish I had figured this out earlier and saved myself a lot of time and $$$. I am guessing that you all already knew this, but I wanted to share this just in case it is helpful info for anyone else. Hope my spot goes to one of you on the waitlist!
