there was an error and I was actually not put on the waitlist. Best wishes to all of you who attend next year. This is a great school with great leadership. You will all be excellent physicians , God bless you all!

I didn't receive an email yesterday either. I called the school today and found out that I was rejected.

So I talked to the admissions office and they gave me these numbers:

So far they granted about 130 acceptances (for a class of 75) and when creating the waitlist yesterday there were 100 people in the first tier, 50 in the second, and 50 in the third. (They also noted that these numbers are changing everyday as people withdraw their applications)

After getting the numbers, I feel kind of depressed about my odds of getting in off the waitlist...
It looks like there will need to be a substantial number of people that decline their acceptance before they even get down to a number when they will start pulling from the 100 people in the first tier. 🙁

judging by your numbers...it seems that not many of us were rejected in general. 330 people were granted acceptances and waitlists leaving 90 of us to be rejected.

I wouldn't fret too much wood2ash1 i think a lot of people will be pulling themselves off both the waitlists and withdrawing their acceptances. I know a few kids from my interview that were accepted elsewhere, and are taking those spots. Keep the faith and good luck!

Since its still a new school I imagine there will be alot of waitlist movement. Don't lose hope!

Based on typical yield at most schools, 230 acceptances (probably slightly less) for 75 spots seems to be about right. So I'd say if you're in the first tier, you have a very good shot at getting in.

That being said, Second Look blew most of us away including myself....so it's gonna be a very tough decision to make.

Anyone know when we should hear about financial aid packages/scholarship? I submitted my FAFSA in late January and have yet to hear anything...
Nope, I'm still waiting too 🙁 This is going to be one of my deciding factors if I will go here or not. They better get the info out soon.

On the fb group it says that we should hear back at the end of the week or early next week.

I decided to log in to SAIL (you can get your ID from the admitted student section of the secondary website) and I found that you can view you financial aid award already. I'm not sure if it may change between today and next week, but at least it gives you an idea.

Wow....those numbers are high. It's very difficult to turn OUWB down when they keep doing everything perfectly.

Wow OUWB has great stats for their inaugural class! The new MSAR says 3.73 cGPA, 3.65 sGPA, and 32 MCAT for averages

I wonder what the stats will be several years from now once OUWB is more established.

Did everyone receive their financial aid? I checked my SAIL account only to find that I apparently need to submit a copy of my social security card to the financial aid office. I've already e-mailed them, but probably won't hear back until next week. Just curious if anyone else had this problem....I don't recall being asked to do this before, or at any other schools.

I had the same thing posted on my account. Wish I would have known I could have easily taken care of that a long time ago

Probably similar to Case Western's...

OUWB takes a holistic approach at choosing applicants and I'm sure statistics aren't the main focus of what they are looking for based on the students I know who have applied, interviewed, and been accepted. That being said, the statistics are high, but I wouldn't look into them too much, Michigan is a state that has gotten rid of affirmative action and I'm not sure of the amount of URMs that Oakland takes and how heavily that is weighted in the choosing of applicants. And with 50 people an outlier here and there can really skew things, but impressive none-the-less for a brand new school.

Anyone know if they have a contingency plan if they don't get accredited (which I highly doubt would ever happen)?

Long time viewer, first time poster (i'm shy) 😉.
Does anybody know how much movement they guesstemate will be off the waitlist? I'm in the first tier but I don't want to get my hopes up.

I doubt they have even the slightest clue. I was told that last year they used it less than they had been told to expect by other schools, with OUWB being new and all.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but does anybody know how many people were accepted off of the WL last year?

Last year they went through ~175 applicants to fill 50 spots. They only gave out ~25 acceptances pre-May 15th, and then used the waitlist to fill the rest of the class. I believe there doing things a bit different this year, as they've already given ~130 acceptances for 75 spots. Based on the numbers from last year, you should have a shot if you are in the 1st Tier of the waitlist.

Thanks for the info!

I'm getting so nervous. I hope they are able to pull from the waitlist at least enough to let multiple people in from it. Do we know when they are going to start letting people know after may 15? I'm assuming it will be couple weeks so they can meet again.

I think that the general consensus (correct me if I'm wrong anyone) is that if you are on the first tier that you have decently good shot of hearing good news. I know what you mean by nerves though. It's hard not thinking about it.

Since I don't see any responses to this, I'll tackle it.

First and foremost, we didn't receive any areas of insufficiency during our LCME preliminary accreditation [http://www.oakland.edu/?sid=340&id=13407] which is pretty rare for a new school. Second, we won't have to worry about it because the Oakland U-Beaumont Health System partnership is built to be a successful model. Third, if something happens to *any* LCME accredited [keep in mind that preliminary accreditation IS accreditation] U.S. medical school, the LCME takes care of the students -- as in, they will ensure that you will receive a degree. This being said, because of the accreditation process we are currently undergoing, the LCME would warn us if there is *any* reason to believe that we might be straying and put us on probation before we lose accreditation completely [see Commonwealth].

That's how I understand it from Dean Folberg. Feel free to PM me if anything is unclear about the process!

Yeah, there have been a bunch of withdrawals in the last month or so. They have been on top of communicating with accepted applicants to make sure they make a decision on time. I withdrew last night so there's one spot you know for sure is available.

Just wanted to make a post and give a big shout out to Dr. Dean Folberg (apparently he reads these boards), and Dean Grabowski as well. Unfortunately

Sadly, I have withdrawn my offer of admission at OUWB. I have accepted another offer at my dream school. I hope one of you on the wait list gets "the call" soon!

OUWB is an AMAZING school. (Check my posts in this thread about letters that Dr. Folberg put out) They are doing wonderful things and they are very student oriented which is important.

Good luck everybody with your decisions! :luck:

+1

I withdrew, too. Good luck to you wait-listers! What school would that be, CodeBlu?

It's a Canadian medical school 🙂 Trying to maintain some level on anonymity on here... he he.

Just got accepted off the waitlist! Got the call an hour ago 🙂

Well HEY, you're welcome 😉

Congratulations!!!

From Facebook land, there are currently 62 students in the group for accepted students. There have been 6 people added to the group since the 15th.

These numbers should not be taken to mean the exact numbers of matriculating students of course but some may find this information interesting.

Those numbers are not comforting to people like me on the WL. I'm trying to remain optimistic in thinking they may dig a little deeper into the list, because I'm really hopeful for this school.
