Only 3 days till we can find out our position on the wait list, so I figured it was probably time to have a thread for everyone on the WL this year!

Once we find out our position, hopefully everyone can add when they interviewed and their position on the WL.

I know it gets tons of movement each year but that doesn't stop me from being nervous!

I also hear there's a lot of movement but let's say your in the middle third couldn't you get moved down so I feel like any position you're in isn't a safe one

True; they stress that it's a snapshot of what the waitlist looks like now. You can move in either direction depending on the quality of the interviewees from now until April. Maybe quality of interviewees is a rough way to put it...the committee score they receive. But it's a good indicator of where you are now.

I'm appreciative of it because not a lot of schools make it so clear and you're sitting there with a waitlist status and just looking like this 😕😕😕😕

What about the bottom third?

Some years they do take from the bottom third, and some years they don't. If you are in the bottom third now, there is a chance of moving up to the middle third in a few months, so I would recommend calling at least once a week and asking Mr. Rosso.

In many past years, but not all, they have accepted the entire top and middle thirds, and a few from the bottom. Top third is a highly likely acceptance, usually around March-May. Middle is still a pretty good bet, usually a June acceptance. Bottom third could be a last minute acceptance in July or Aug, unfortunately, but it does happen.

One guy in my class was accepted during the first week of school after classes started. He went from not being a med student to dissecting in the gross lab in a matter of hours. He was super happy that day, obviously. Anything is possible.

Bottom third. My only interview that did not lead to an acceptance and was probably my best interview (by some margin.) Go figure.

I got accepted last year after being placed on the bottom third. I think I was accepted in the second or third week of July. If it helps at all I had one really bad interview (was pretty awkward) and one decent interview.

It can't hurt, and they do look at updates for applicants on the waitlist.

That said, position on the waitlist is determined by a numerical score calculated after the interview (it reflects the entire application and interview day). When they start accepting off the waitlist, which usually gets going when the list is finalized in April, they really do just go in order, so its also perfectly fine to not send updates.

I didn't send any updates last year, but I did call the admissions office every week and spoke to Mr. Rosso. He would tell me if I was still in the same waitlist third. That's always a good thing to do.

You're right, that did happen last year, where one guy had to wait an extremely long time for seemingly no reason. No idea why that happened. He is in my class, and he's a cool guy.

I second this. It's still early, and people have been accepted from the bottom third.

When UB is done with all interviews, the waitlist is finalized. You could move up to the middle third around then, and have a decent shot.

Give admissions a phone call every week, and keep checking the waitlist status.
