Received my rejection yesterday and was heartbroken... Felt the interview went well and I had positive feedback during it. Their reasons in the letter made no sense and I feel that they were wearing blinders and looking for applicants who were like themselves... Greatly disappointed in the process.
Considering whether or not I should apply again next year... Due to persona reasons this was my only MD secondary... Do any reapplicants have any advice? And congrats to those accepted!
As a second time applicant who was accepted, my advice, if this is your dream, is to kick your ass into gear. Reflect upon yourself. What improvements do you know you can make?
Did your rejection email mention your grades or test scores? If not, then look to employment, volunteer activities, and anywhere you can get the experiences that you are lacking. Make sure that you find activities that are going to be important to you. Also, make sure they are realistic. If you are like me and cannot afford it, then remember that one does not need to travel overseas to make a difference in their application.
Besides getting the ball rolling on those now, make sure you attend the focus groups at the end of may/beginning of june. The past web videos are on the website, but go to the new ones. Ask appropriate questions. Get noticed.
You may want to read through this cycle's entire thread for even more advice. Actually, you may want to just start reading more in general. Websites I found helpful were here, blogs, kevinmd.com. The more you read, then the more well versed you will become in the topics they ask you about.
It hurts and it hurts bad. But, it is important to have confidence in yourself. Take it from me, although I thought I was absolutely ready the first time, my experiences since my rejection have ultimately fueled my desire and enhanced my understanding of what it truly means to be a doctor.
