Sorry to hear about the rejection. I'm sure you will have luck this cycle.

From those who have unfortunately been rejected, does anything change online as well or do you just receive a letter in the mail?

Thanks!

For those that just interview invites, when were you complete, state residency, and how competitive were your stats compared to their average (if you don't mind saying)? Congrats !

Interview invite this afternoon. IS, Complete 9/7

Hi there. I know this topic has been covered already, but I'm still hung up on it. I've stalled on sending the secondary because I really don't know what to do with the life experiences section.

I called the office recently and asked if they wanted the descriptions to be the same as on AMCAS, and the lady basically said do whatever you want, because all they really care about is that graph thing. 😕

I spent a lot of time (as I'm sure you all did!) perfecting the activity descriptions for my primary, so I'm hesitant to re-write them. I could expand on them, but then the descriptions would become super long. Does anyone know if they look at the secondary descriptions in lieu of the AMCAS ones?

Anywho, I would love some input from you all on what you did (and possibly the outcomes, if you have any yet!).

Thx!

I just copy and pasted from AMCAS, then filled in with some additional things that I didn't put on my primary.

I interviewed on their first interview day of the year, at least for non-early decision kids, and they told us we won't hear until the end of October at the earliest.

Anyone know if the interviews are open or closed file?

After reading all the rejection updates, I can only think that I'm next... I really hope that's not the case. This school seems to be an amazing place from what I hear the students and residents say.

Complete 8/25 and still haven't heard anything (watch me get the rejection snail mail today). OOS

Is it a positive thing that you haven't received a rejection yet? Or do they just come in bunches?

Anyone know if the interviews are open or closed file?

Semi-open. They have your AMCAS, minus grades and MCAT score/s. My interviewer had read my application before hand and had a lot of questions based upon my activities.

The student interview panel is completely closed, the only thing they know about you is your name.

These are my thoughts. Please tell me if this seems right (although for selfish reasons I hope I'm wrong)...

First, i'll say that I'm a non-tradid, OOS, with unique experiences, high GPA, but well below average MCAT. It's been about 6 weeks since I was marked complete. At first, I thought this was a good sign, seeing as though many people complete before my date have since been rejected. However, I also noticed that many of these people getting rejected quickly (within one month or so) had really good MCATs and were generally good applicants...

I noticed that my status update online says that applications will be reviewed based on STRENGTH of application and date of completion. I'm beginning to wonder whether my not being rejected yet means I haven't been reviewed due to my low-ish MCAT . I looked at last year's thread and noticed that many people with below average stats sometimes took a while to get rejected. If this is true, it means that being complete for a long time isn't necessarily a great sign.

Again, this is just my thought and, of course, I secretly hope I'm wrong =)

Interview Invite!

MCAT: Verbal-Physical-Bio 9-9-8-O | 6-11-12-M | 12-11-10-N

BCPM undergrad 3.27 | BCPM grad 4.0 (only 9 credits)

Overall undegrad 3.28 | No non science grad classes

Really, really bad E.C. (worked 20+ hours / week throughout college)

Interview Fri, Nov. 4.

Now- how friendly is the school towards asking for an *earlier* interview?

Complete 9/2. I dunno why the rejection though I suspect it might be a combination of OOS and mediocre ECs. Think I should call them to ask about it?

if you're curious it couldn't hurt. I suspect you're right about the OOS. try not to take it personally! I'm sure someone else will recognize your strengths 🙂

Congrats and good luck to everybody with interviews! Don't stress AT ALL about your interviews; all the faculty that interview are very laid back (everybody on my interview day loved their interviewer) and very conversational. There's only one question they are required to ask you, and that's if you have anything you'd like to add to your application. I don't think anybody even got asked flat out why they want to be a doctor/medicine.

If you have anymore questions about the interview process and what to expect, feel free to PM me!

I'm a little curious whether anyone noticed that the secondary application forms at UW are not encrypted? I seem to recall that pretty much all the schools have the pages secured because of the information being asked. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If this is answered anywhere else, I apologize. I couldn't find concrete and current answers for it.

Is there a screening process for the secondary application? I have submitted most all of my secondaries a few weeks ago. I just assumed I was rejected from UW. However, I got a secondary today. Is this normal and I should not put much stock on it?

Thanks!

Question answer #4 - http://www.med.wisc.edu/education/md/admissions/faqs/108

Let me know if I can answer any questions about the school, interview/selection process, or anything else.

I visited there not long ago and fell in love with the town. I could see myself living there and having a decent time of it. Long question short, how do I get in? 🙂

I've got some time, aiming for Autumn 2014 matriculation. Anything I can do to look better for them ( no, I don't think I can move there early to become IS)? Non traditional engineer, out of state for reference.

UW has a pretty good amount of non-trads in their classes. I would focus on having lots of clinical volunteering, and of course good stats. Research helps as well.

OK, so my GPA is 3.73 and my best combined score from two MCATS is a 27m(10,7,10). I'm also economically disadvantaged. what do u guys think my chances of getting in madison are? I'm a WI resident btw.

Honestly, things don't look too favorable right now but you are an in-state resident and the secondary is relatively cheap in the grand scheme of things. You miss 100% of shots you don't take so give it a try.

OOS Interview Invite today via email. My Interview is on November 11.

They seem very very friendly to non-traditional students (of which I am king, lol). My GPA and MCAT are both significantly lower than the averages and I am an OOS student.

However, my story is very unique and my EC's are pretty good (well they must be otherwise they would have never even given my application a second glance, lol).

I guess GPA and MCAT aren't everything. You can check out my mdapplicants for stats (for encouragement to those of you who have sub-par GPA/MCAT, but still have something special to add to the student body).

Look forward to seeing some of you on November 11.

Good luck to everyone!

Does anyone know if out of state with strong WI ties helps at all? I grew up in Wisconsin until I went to college. Went to college in MN, and have been out of state for three years after college. Think this counts for something?

3.7/35

I believe being born in WI and going to HS there makes you an in-state resident but you should check the state residency guidelines.

Incorrect. There are a number of factors that go into the determination of residency for the purposes of tuition: residence history, location of present/past employment, location of past/present educational institutions, WI income tax history, WI voter registration history, Car/ driver license from WI, parental info (if applicable), reason for relocating to WI.

Just because someone used to live in a state will not automatically mean residency.

I grew up in Wisconsin and I went to college and now grad school at U of M, but I am technically a Wisconsin resident and was considered that for the application. I got an interview too. So YES it does matter 🙂
best of luck to you!

Interviewed here on Friday. Absolutely loved it. Everyone we met--students and faculty--were so friendly and accommodating. As was said before, the interviewers are very conversational and laid back. Best part...they are the ONLY school that designates themselves as a school of medicine AND public health and you can really see that they incorporate that into the curriculum.

Fingers crossed! :xf::xf::xf:
