they say anywhere from a few weeks to march.
I sent in my secondary less than two weeks after receiving it, mailed it out on a Thursday, they e-mailed me saying I was complete the next Tuesday. I sent it in pretty early though, so their processing time may be a little slower now, and I applied via the Early Decision program, so they probably put my app in the front of the line.jeez thats a huge block of time. May I ask how long after you actually submitted it actually takes for them to mark u down as complete?
Pre-secondary rejection via snail mail..ouch! This one hurts. 👎

Same here....and some harsh wording....gotta focus on the schools who truly want to give me a shot.
On to the next one! Don't worry about it, there are plenty of other fish in the sea. 🙂![]()
What did it say? I got a call from my mum about the letter. I couldn't read it myself. Either way, getting a pre-secondary rejection is the worst..they didn't even consider you worthy enough for a secondary? lol..
It just said that "The Admissions Committee does not feel that your application is competitive"...that sentence sounded flat out harsh. It is what it is....this med school admissions process is so fickle anyways. Just in the Detroit area schools alone, I'm still shocked that I have an interview at Oakland and got rejected pre-secondary here when I did research at Wayne for two summers and one of my relatives went to their med school.

Hey, you got an interview at Oakland. I got rejected from Oakland but received a secondary to Wayne. It's a crap shoot and don't worry too much about it.

Yeah, they're stupid. I don't know how to put it lightly... sometimes the admissions committee makes mistakes. People with 3.5s and 26 MCATs get the secondary, while other 3.6s and 30s with AMAZING ECs get the boot. It makes no sense. Don't try to find logic in the process, cuz none exists.
I wouldn't necessarily say that the adcom makes mistakes. They are more holistic in their approach. It's not always the stats that get you in. They might be looking for something else that isn't so quantifiable.
K... explain this to me...
Applicant meets with with dean of admissions... 3 times before applying.
Dean tells the applicant everything to make app competitive.
They scheduled a 4th meeting, pending applicants new MCAT score...
The dean has primary app sitting on his desk... and says oh... we sent you a rejection letter yesterday.
Applicant says WTF?
Long story short, the dean missed his new MCAT score... and then his app went out the window...
guess what he ended up rescinding the rejection and giving applicant a shot... oh and then the applicant actually was successful in the cycle. Sooooo yeah adcoms make mistakes.
Sure those kinds of mistakes happen. But I'm saying if they already received your new score and still decided to send you a rejection, that isn't a mistake. There was something else that they probably didn't like. And the new MCAT score may not always "save" you in the end anyway, since they look at other factors. It may have made a difference for that particular applicant you are speaking of. But it's not always going to be the case. Unless the people who are receiving pre-secondary rejections that are in the same situation as the example you provided, I wouldn't be so quick to say that the adcom made a mistake. As humans, of course, we will make some sort of mistake, like not taking into a new score into account, but you can't say that happened to everyone...
No, but it seems that people have qualms with Wayne State admissions every year. In terms of the treatment from the office staff, them being rude etc.
Sure, you can say that about any school. Of course, seem nicer than others. But during a time when they are receiving a lot of applications and having to review them all, it can be really tense. I am not giving them an excuse for being rude. There's never an excuse for that. They probably don't intend on being mean, but it just comes out that way at times.
And maybe since people have issues with Wayne State Admissions every year, maybe it's better that they get in somewhere else. There's more schools as you said earlier. So all you can do is move on...
SO either you work for WSU School of medicine admissions... or you're just.... I don't even know.
Honestly, I just think that sometimes things happen for a reason. Like I got accepted into University of Michigan for undergrad but I hated their admissions/financial aid staff for being rude during the process. And that was a major reason why I didn't go. So there's probably other options that people would like just as much. That's all I was trying to saying. Admissions process doesn't really make sense in general. You just have to roll with the punches...
I am also perplexed by the pre-secondary rejection. I'm IS, 29Q, 3.5 overall, 3.4 sGPA. I have 2 years full time research with a publication, 2 years peace corps, 150 hours clinical volunteering, over 150 hours shadowing, and a masters degree (4.0 GPA).
I understand my stats might be slightly lower than their averages, but as an IS resident with great ECs, this is very disappointing. 🙁
I imagine it must have something to do with the application as a whole. The average MCAT is ~30 and the average GPA is 3.66 for matriculates, so the GPA and MCAT shouldn't have auto-excluded him, especially considering he is IS. There must be some other aspect of the application the adcom didn't like, unless random selection really is a major component. Now thats really weird. I didnt get a presecondary rejection (strangely), but if your IS and you did better than me, how the hell did you get rejected? Is this process really as arbitrary as it seems? Do they have a cutoff of 30 or something?
Very strange indeed.
Aside from being a non-traditional applicant, I really don't think I have any glaring weaknesses to merit a pre-secondary rejection from my state school. Nonetheless, I'm learning that the app process really is a crap shoot!I imagine it must have something to do with the application as a whole. Sorry to hear that 🙁. Since Wayne takes almost 80% in-state each year, I imagine not having impressive stats as an OOS applicant would be an up-hill battle. Very-high in-state percentage = huge advantage for in-state applicants and huge hurdle for OOS applicants. Good luck with your other schools."At this time, the application committee does not feel that your application is competitive,".....guess they are looking for more then a 36 on the MCAT and several years of research and being a TA. Rejected with out even sending me the secondary. Ouch Wayne State....Ouch.

Their deteriorating relationship with Beaumont and especially the DMC does not bode well for the 300 student farm.Unfortunately they are very STATS heavy. I remember meeting with the dean of admissions, he had my GPA and MCAT circled. He also looked at the percentiles of my MCAT scores.
And did some weird calculations... probably a LizzyM score. He told an applicant a few years ago that he/she wasn't competitive at all and to look at other career paths or do more post bacc work.
Yeah that person went on to Case Western Reserve.... soooo yeah. Wayne State needs to ground themselves a little bit. I love the school, I work there, it's awesome. But they can be a bit pompous. And now with Oakland University William Beaumont school of medicine opening l in the area and closing the door to the Wayne State students... the monopoly is over. Wayne is going to have to step up their game.
Can't be the emphasis on international medicine. My interviewer harped on and on about how many international programs Wayne has. That's really surprising. Especially considering how heavy they are on community service and whatnot. However, Wayne State is really big on their docs staying in MI. So if your PCV experience plus maybe something in your essays made you sound like a flight risk for international medicine, that might've been a reason.

To echo some of the sentiments above, I just didn't have a pleasant interview experience with Wayne (which led to an "August" rejection since the interviewer presents your whole file to the committee). She liked to talk more about herself/the school than to hear what I had to say so it was basically a series of necessary interruptions in between going down the list of activities, zero flow/depth.
Also, I have heard time and time again in the past years from Wayne admissions people that they're looking for at least a 10 on each MCAT section. They say they are holistic and are big on community service, but they put a lot of emphasis on numbers.
I am sure at many schools, Wayne included, sometimes the difference between being accepted and rejected depends on who is sorting the applications. Unless they do a strict numbers cutoff (different numbers for IS vs OOS of course) to determine who gets secondaries, any other evaluation of the application has some degree of subjectivity. It sucks, but there is no perfect system, unfortunately. 🙁I do find the whole process at Wayne to be very strange, especially after reading the message board. I was screened in for the secondary:
IS, Non-trad: BSN Nursing. cGPA: 3.82 sGPA: 3.85, 27Q, 325 hrs shadowing, 1 semester of medicinal chem research, NCAA Div. I track & field athlete, 2 service trips for hurricane katrina relief, 900+ random service hrs, currently work as an RN while finishing pre-reqs.
But I know people with VERY similar ECs and much higher numbers who were rejected. interesting. 😕

Are you really saying people with much higher numbers than a 3.8 and a 27 were rejected pre-secondary? In state applicants??

Interesting. I am not sure how accurate this is (overheard in a course at Wayne UG) but I have heard that for highly-competitive applicants, Wayne COM tends to often pass them over because they assume they are being treated as a safety school, and the applicant doesn't really want to go there. No clue if this is the case, but that may play in. If not, I wonder what they are looking at that would rule out applicants with stats well above-average.This is exactly what I'm saying. I don't know if Wayne adcoms need to visit the optometrist, but some of my friends that got rejected... had 3.8s and 34s with invites to U Michigan and Pritzker... but they would have GLADLY AND HAPPILY stayed at Wayne State. Way to go Wayne.... way to go Waynin' us before we show up even.
Has anyone else received an interview invite? I applied early decision, but I know last year the first non-early decision invites were sent out around this time.
I'm OOS with no ties whatsoever, 3.66 and 30R and got a secondary
