Thank you, thank you very much you're too kind

The interview day yesterday was nothing short of amazing. I was really impressed with the facilities, the staff/faculty, and of course the happiness of the students. Show me some love Brown!

My II came after 4pm EST... I think I can feel it coming down the tubes...

Edit: I stand corrected.

I spoke with admissions this morning and they said they plan on sending out decisions late this afternoon.:xf:

Waitlisted..

still haven't heard back...almost three months post secondary. at least give me a rejection or hold or something so i know

Eeeek. So many waitlisted... Now I may be slightly dreading the dec 10 decisions .... :scared:

WL isn't terrible though...there's always the chance that you'll be accepted later! I'd say this is a win. Congrats nonetheless!

+1 for waitlist.

I really really wish my interviewers hadn't been in such an incredible rush. One didn't even spend 20 minutes with me and told me before I got through the door she didn't have time to read my app and we needed to be quick. She then took cell phone calls throughout the whole thing.

I was just hoping for the best I guess...maybe I'll get off right?

0/5 Waitlisted =/= 77% acceptance 🙁 I had really gotten my hopes up for this one and now feeling very disappointed

Uhm, yes it does. The 77% accepted statistic includes those taken off the wait list later.

The statistics are something like 210 out of 270 people interviewed get accepted. I don't know whether that includes people who did their 8 year program (~1/2 the class comes in from that), but there's no way that they accept 210 people right off the bat for their 110 person class. I predict, though I may be wrong, lots of waitlist movement, so try to stay positive. 👍

It wouldn't surprise me if they are very conservative with acceptances and waitlist nearly everyone, that way people who get...shall we say, vengeful, will eliminate their own chances, or look at other schools, and Brown can cultivate a class of people who stick it out and really want to be there, as opposed to people who just applied and got in and oh golly gee how nice why not.

That being said, did ANYONE get accepted? It sounds like the whole thread got waitlisted.

Waitlisted... Bummer!

Sadly, guess I didn't click with my interviewers as much as I presumed? 🙁
Nevertheless, still thrilled with this cycle thus far -- I can't complain.

Good luck to everyone!

EDIT: Med students at Brown, can you shed any light on when most WL movement occurs? For example, I know some schools have a lot of movement during the cycle, while other schools have virtually zero movement until the May 15th deadline. Thanks!

EDIT Part 2: Is the WL ranked? If so, are there any keywords in the waitlist letter that describe our ranking?

From what I've heard (take it how you will) there's minimal movement until March, then it starts to pick up when the nonrollers drop their acceptances. It hits a head between then and May 15th, after which it's pretty minimal.

Also, I want to stalk your mdapps but you don't say which schools you're doing well at... :'(

I really really hope there is a lot of waitlist movement because brown def is my top choice. I suppose the idea of not knowing where I'll be spending the next four years of my life until May/June is a little scary for me but I guess it's worth it for Brown. So I'll just make myself comfortable here and send 'em the best letter of interest they've ever received 🙂

I'd give it some time, but also keep in mind the letter of intent - the "If I get accepted here, I will withdraw from everywhere else and go here, hell, high water, or no scholarship money."

Did they say at your interview whether they've accepted people? I wonder if they accept a small handful (10~20 of the 50 slots) and then wait until later to fill out the rest. Fair approach to the later interviewees, I guess.

First post, long time follower. Also got the WL today. Heart broken, but we all have to stay positive as it seems like there will be a lot of movement. Did everyone's read like this?:

"While your application was evaluated as highly competitive, we unfortunately are not able to offer you a place in the class at this time" blah blah.... It doesn't read like a ranking WL...

We did indeed accept about 20-30 people if I recall correctly, really sorry you guys weren't on the list (and I mean that sincerely). That being said Brown does use the waitlist pretty heavily because thanks to the PLMEs there is a bit more uncertainty as to final numbers (they don't go into the stats for interviewed and accepted btw b/c they don't get interviewed by the medical school). There isn't really a rank order to the waitlist, it's more about Barb filling out the class. LOIs help but I'd give it some time to settle (waitlist won't start moving until Spring).

Best of luck to you all!

Accepted today via email! Top choice, couldn't be happier. Good luck to everyone else! :xf: for waitlist movement.

Congratulations!! 🙂
You going to keep hitting the interview trail, or just call it a day?

Thanks! I've just got one more interview scheduled, but after that I'm putting the suit away. Short of a full ride offered at my second choice, I'll definitely be matriculating at Brown.

Do you mind sharing your stats, when you were complete etc.?

Brown I love your school so much, please don't reject me :scared:

I feel the same way and I was complete 9/23, I hope I'm not in the next round of rejections...

Sorry to hear, everyone. Brown is extraordinarily selective when it comes to its interviews. I don't think any other school is as selective. With Brown, it's quite clearly not a reflection of you or what you bring to the table, but just what spots they're looking to fill in their classroom. I'm confident you'll have a great, albeit potentially long, season 🙂

I just finished a 3-day ICU shadowing experience at RIH...everyone here is SO amazing! The teachers are brilliant. I would give anything to get in here! I was so impressed by the type of experience-based learning that goes on here. The attendings/fellows/residents really go out of their way to answer questions and really cover all the bases.

So Brown? Give me an interview? Let me stay here? Pleaseeeeeeeeee?

No one jump on my back for being so late... but is anyone else having issues with filling out the secondary right now? I can't type anything into the forms.

Does anyone really know when schools (Brown) stop offering interviews? I have a lot of schools I haven't heard anything from yet and I feel like interview days are all full already.

Hey guys, couple of tips on interviewing after having seen a few mistakes in the past and this year.

1. Guys, wear a tie.
2. If you are being interviewed by a physician, call them Doctor X unless they specifically tell you otherwise.
3. Be familiar to your application. If you have done something for several months we are going to ask you about it. You should know all the different sides of an argument. For example if you have worked at a free clinic that handed out needles...you should know that it prevents HepC etc...but at the same time have you thought about the argument that providing free needles creates dependency and continued use? Just adds to your maturity factor.

#2: ...what did they call them? Their first name?

Thank you ayushman80! Very helpful!

Could you elaborate more on "adding to your maturity factor"?
Do you mean we should be prepared when the interviewer asks the dependency problem?
Or we should voluntarily bring up the dependency problem?

The homeless clinic was just an example. The point being that medicine has a lot of emotionally charged issues: reproductive rights, universal healthcare, obesity, etc.... Each issue can be discussed from multiple points of view: yours as a provider, as a patient, society's points of view etcc.... IF asked about something like this, state your point of view, and state that you are aware that there are also many other considerations and counter arguments. A lot of times, there is no "right answer." But being adamant about your point of view being the only correct one is always wrong.

this answers my question. thank you!

I think I read somewhere on the website that after an offer of acceptance, the recipient has three weeks to accept it. Is this true?
