for those who interviewed i have a quick question about financial. I know you start off with a base loan and then they calculated expected family contribution and then the remaining is covered by scholarship. did they provide an example of what the expected parental contribution with a given parent salary? I know schools like harvard, yale, etc get rid of parental contribution if your family does not make over 100,000. IS this also the case with Dartmouth. thanks.

UG 2.7
Grad 4.0
MCAT 37

Rejected last week, and it's e-mail. Completed 8/6.

No interview invite. It was my alma mater too 🙁

Heck I didn't want to go back to the middle of nowhere anyway
(But I secretly did because it's Dartmouth)
I am sorry man, but well, it looks like we will be together soon! I am shocked, your MCAT and grad stats should take you far. Why, why? I feel for you mate..tbh, I would not complain if you get in before me. Good luck with the remaining schools. I am sure you will get in somewhere, hang in there buddy!

I fear for my sanity! Complete 2 weeks before premedgrad with almost identical stats... I don't even know what to think.
One of us will get in, maybe it's you 🙂 Hang in there...but I am truly going nuts about this

They told us EFC is calculated using FAFSA and tax returns.

I was complete mid july and there has been no communication whatsoever. Anyone else in my situation? what should I think?

how are people sending thank you notes? are you emailing your interviewer directly or are you sending them to Whitney Hatch to pass on? thanks.

you should think that a lot of people are in that situation.

do you think interviewing at dartmouth early on like september and october is advantageous is does it not really make a difference since they use some sort of score ranking system? thanks.

According to what they said in the interview day it does not make a difference whether you interview early.

congrats to the people with II

did everybody fill in the 'Please share with us...' essay?

I think if you interview before new year's, then you are considered for acceptances beginning in January.

i was just curious if anyone who interviewed here had a similar experience. I had a student and faculty and for my faculty interview she only had 3 or 4 questions for me and said she was done after that. I asked a lot of question to make the interview last at least 20 minutes but she did not seem to want to ask me too much.
Do you know if getting two faculty is better than one faculty and one student? thanks.

I find students are better to talk to and I often find myself in control of those interviews. I had a similar experience at Penn with a very old faculty member who asked me a handful of questions and answered all my questions in a very terse matter. I think that's just how the dice rolled and it's bad luck if you don't have the engaging conversations that interviews usually turn out to be. Don't be discouraged though.

Don't overthink it. I've had a smattering of interviews where the interviewers didn't seem well prepared or didn't ask me many questions. Without being specific, I've been accepted to one or more of those schools. I've heard over and over that it doesn't matter how you felt about an interview, and my experiences certainly lend credence to that idea.

Are interviews mostly just a friendly conversation, in which case the interviewer would help you if you're having difficulties, or are they mostly answer-these-questions type, in which the interviewer would expect you to spend a good 5 minutes answering each question with very minimal interjection?

I had one of each of these last year. It just depends on who your interviewers are. One of my interviews was very conversational, while the other was like being grilled. The second one was quite nerve-wracking, but you just have to keep your cool.

did anyone interview with a female md/phd and find her to become very unconversational and very "questioning" and did not really want to speak. thanks

i noticed when was at dartmouth that they put alot of emphasis on the fact that they like to have 60+ different undergraduates institutions. do you think coming from a less well known school is advantageous and decreases one's competition?

As someone from an unknown school with well-above matriculation averages here, early complete, and no II - I don't think so, at least not significantly.

Maybe they just don't like my app, but I have several other Ivy interviews done already.

Rejected this morning 2 days after sending an update letter about a new publication haha. 35 3.7, complete 9/20 I think.

Rejected via email just now. Can't say I wasn't expecting it (complete since 9/1) but still sucks. Four rejections, no ii so far. Fingers crossed for better news soon.

we have similar stats... also 4 rejections so far (BostonU, UChicago, UCSF and CWRU College Track).

Rejected today too. 36 MCAT 3.75 GPA. Completed 9/21. 🙁

Rejected as well. GPA 3.7+ MCAT 33+ Sept completion. Glad I am in good company

are you guys receiving the email right now, or did you receive it before, and are just now posting.

Just wondering if I should be expecting it now too :scared:

Sorry to hear about the bad news! Is there any indication that you were rejected on your status portal?

Any good news yet? I keep trying to remind myself that I am good enough for medical schools and that I will hear something good soon, but so far all I've heard is bad news :scared:

i was looking at the msar demographics and i saw that they have a high number of hispanic class members especially considering their class size of around 90. Do you think dartmouth accepts a lot hispanic students given that it is not located in a great location?thanks

Medical students and interviewees frequently say that they really like the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center as one of the best hospitals that they've visited. Could anyone elaborate on this point please?

I think it's just because the facilities are easy on the eyes. I think it was designed to not feel like a "depressing place" for the patients and families, so there is a lot of natural lighting and open windows looking out to tree lines and gardens. It also has a feel of an indoor shopping mall and doesn't seem like a hospital inside.

The dates on your MDapps confused the hell out of me for a minute.

hahhahaa.. The reason I write them like that, is because it is the accepted practice scientifically and that I learned to use for my phd... more completely it would be 20121101, for instance for today, although we usually just write it as 121101. So it kinda eliminates the confusion caused by the the /'s and different ordering systems.

II this morning! I'm so excited! Sent a LOI/in the area notice to them a couple of weeks ago and was starting to get nervous not hearing back either way. Cannot wait to visit Hanover! 😀

Congratulations Cheezhead! I was complete waaaayyyyy back in July as well, so perhaps I'll try an LOI. Did you submit yours via snail mail or email? Also, did you get any sort of confirmation that they had received your LOI/in the area notice?
