I think it's just who picks up the phone when you call. I've even tried tricking them into telling me--'So I can assume I'm in the middle of the top third, right?' -- but they're too good.

I'm top 1/3 bottom portion too. Regardless, I think our chances are pretty good, if you look at the US News medical school data you will see that out of the 300 OOS interviewed, 200 are accepted. Having that information, I think we have a pretty good shot being at the top 1/3 out of 500 people on the waitlist (IS+OOS)!

yeah what i've been thinking too
when i initially called a few weeks ago about my status they told me 'top tier', though i didn't ask for more info. anyways, if they really try to 'match' people 'holistically' to those that decline acceptances then top tier is simply top tier, order can't matter that much...

(...but if they don't then order does matter lol 😛)

do u have a link for these numbers? or is it something you read somewhere
 
Yeah search US new medical schools ranking. But you need to pay to see detail info such as admission stats, just take my words.

Maybe, but from their point of view, its worth just waiting an extra week to see outcome of May 15th deadline. So I would say we shouldn't see any, but this cycle is anything but logical so...
 
Great news! The waitlist is no longer over 500 people, it is now only over 400 and evenly distributed (roughly)!! Hip hip huurray!!!

Did you hear this when you called EVMS?

And by evenly distributed do you mean that there are equal numbers of people in the top, middle, and bottom tier? If so, that would mean about half of the top 1/3 is OOS= 70-80 people

Maybe some people in top 1/3 got bumped down😱 Too scared to call and find out.

When I called and asked about this, they said people don't get moved down at this point (I think other posters heard the same thing). It's just people withdrawing which would cause the wait list to deflate like Garrbear says.
 
Do they call you or send you a letter/email when you get off the waitlist? I've missed two calls from an unknown number and I can't call them back.
 
Q for you guys that called recently: any indication of when they will meet to... deliberate?

I think everyone who has posted before got the acceptance package via snail mail. I would call and check, though, but it's probably a telemarketer (after this cycle, I'm convinced there's special place in hell for telemarketers).

5/12/13- So maybe we'll here something next week?

Finally, it's D-Day! I will be excited to see how big the waiting list is tomorrow! Hopefully in a few more days we will have some great news!
 
Has anyone called to ask about the new size? I forgot to when I called today to verify my last update was received.
 
I'm assuming the acceptances will come a few days after now since EVMS does snail mail.
 
Withdrew earlier today. A tough choice- best of luck to whoever the spot goes to!
 
I called, and they weren't able to tell me the size. They said they weren't sure but thought it was around 500. I suspect that it has decreased below 500 with the May 15th deadline and the email asking applicants to respond if they were no longer interested, but they don't have any real information yet. I'm guessing that they were waiting until today to consider which students to accept.

im guessing u called a few days ago? someone should call today and find out if they made decisions 🙂. I would but I called yesterday lol
 
just called a little while ago and was accepted! IS female, first acceptance

long-time lurker and first-time poster..just wanted to let all of you who were feeling a little defeated from this draining process that there is hope 🙂

Congrats! When you called did they tell you right away when you asked for your status?
 
after i gave them my amcas id and name, they asked to verify my address (i had updated it back in september). then they were like, we just wanted to confirm because you've been accepted today and want to make sure that we send information to the right address.

When did you interview?

Were you placed at the top third? Also which position were you at the third?

no, but i didn't think evms had a way to check your application status on their website..?

Ask them what tier you are on. If possible ask them what portion of the tier are you in.
Then ask them the size of the waitlist, and if each tier is divided evenly between IS/OOS.
I would totally call, but I called too often within the last two week, feeling a bit hesitant to call and bug them again..
 
seems like right now they're moving thru the IS WL. Maybe OOS will be next week?
 
Does anyone from the Norfolk area know how safe it is to bike along Olney Rd?

yeah... I feel like if waitlistees don't get off from the list this time, then pretty much no more chance... Does anyone know whether the adcomm is going to have additional committee meetings?

I'll be contemplating it over the next couple days! EVMS felt great I really loved it out there so it's going to be tough.
After all the time and effort we out into this process, it feels painful to turn around and decline an offer!
