I love the feeling when you're writing one of those "Why this school" essays and the more you research, the more excited you get about it. I hope my excitement shines through in my essay, I would love to interview here!

I received the secondary from Georgetown about 3 weeks after my application was processed by amcas.

Same. Unfortunately I don't have superstar stats :/ but hopefully I'll get the opportunity to interview here

They ask at the start of the day if anyone has a tight plane flight to catch. Those people interview first so you should hopefully be fine if your flight is from DCA.

Did those of you who've RSPV'd for interviews receive a confirmation email? I scheduled an interview a while back for 9/14/12. Perusing my Gtown emails right now though and don't see the confirmation on this anywhere, no on my post-secondary application page. just wondering... otherwise should probably hurry up and schedule for another interview date before they withdraw my app on 8/7.

thanks

Yeah I received a confirmation email right after I scheduled mine.

how long does it take after submitting the secondary to be marked complete?

I submitted mine on 7/16 and wasn't complete until 7/28. I ended up calling them though and making sure there wasn't a problem with my letters or anything and then was marked as complete like 20 minutes after I called so keep an eye on it for sure.

I have a question for those already at gtown...I know this will most likely change in my 4 years at med school, but right now I'm heavily interested in ob/gyn and reproductive endocrinology. I worry that being at a catholic hospital will limit my learning experience and make it more difficult for me to move forward as a pro-choice physician that would need to know how to perform an abortion - or even just in terms of birth control distribution and understanding how that is dealt with as well. Just unsure of what to do here...I love Georgetown as a school but obviously I'm going to med school primarily to get an education that will serve me well in the future.

I'd worry about getting into medical school first before you obsess over these types of issues.

I am worried about getting into medical school. I think that's pretty clear as I'm concerned I'm wasting an application at a school that doesn't necessarily fit my needs.
I'm only asking for input from someone who knows.

I would know I am a student here. And what I'm telling you the most prudent thing right now is worrying about getting into school not worrying about what type of physician you will be because if you don't get in then this won't be an issue. You will have ample opportunity to figure all of that out later. Besides, most of the specialized training you are discussing comes MUCH farther down the road than medical school so it should not matter.

Georgetown is Pro-Life and does not provide elective abortion services. If necessary, the Hospital allows abortions if the life of the mother is at risk or other circumstances such as rape or incest.

I immediately received a confirmation. I am interviewing on the 14th too...hope I get to meet you!

Thank you for your help...I'm (obviously) new to this and just don't want to make silly decisions now that will negatively affect me down the road. My concern came mostly from not wanting to waste anyones time-- mine or the adcom's if georgetown was definitely not the school for me. I'm happy I asked the question, because it seems like my concerns were mostly unwarranted.
I never meant to imply that you didn't know what you were talking about, I only wanted to clarify that I was asking a question and just hoping for a simple answer from someone in the program who would know. You obviously fit those qualifications.

Congratulations to everyone that has obtained interviews.

We look forward to meeting you and showing you around Georgetown!

While you are waiting for your interviews, acquaint yourself with our Match Lists from recent years. From this data, you will see why we all chose to come to Georgetown! We match INCREDIBLY well at all of the top programs (MGH, NYP etc etc).

Question for any current Georgetown student:

I know this is a tough question to answer, but is there much financial aid available to students (particularly need-based grants/scholarships)? I'd LOVE to go to Georgetown (if I get in), but I'll likely end up having to choose between Georgetown and a MUCH less expensive state school. FWIW, my parents don't make much money. I really really don't want to graduate from med school ~$300,000 in debt (med school+undergrad).

Would also like to know this..

They do not offer much money at all.

If you get in, you can hold multiple acceptances until you see just how much money they give you. Honestly, I would not expect much, but you can always hold out and see.

Drat. 🙁 Well, thanks for the answer!

That's a shame. This school is my top (practical) choice..

boooooooo 👎

Couple questions for current students, thanks in advance.

Does Georgetown offer many research opportunities even if youre not applying md/phd? Id like to maintain performing research, but i dont want to commit to an additional 4 years as a phd candidate. I understand there is a research project, but I'm unclear on if it results in publications.

Can you comment on how effective and what is incorporated in to the 60/20/20 learning curriculum? Specifically, do you find that the small group and independent learning exercises are helpful and what are the aspects of them.

Are there any insights or comments for programs involving volunteering with the disenfranchised in the DC area, as well as mission trip options available in other countries?

How does catholicism affect the curriculum and environment of the class. I understand it's a catholic institution but I'm curious as to whether there is a strong dynamic of religion among the students.

In regards to the md/MBA dual degree program. Any one with experience think that it is a good idea or have any comments/insights regarding the program.

That's all that I can think of. Again, thanks in advance for your responses.

Has anyone who was complete on/after 7/27 received an interview invite? I was complete 7/27 and have heard nothing yet 🙁 Very bummed, Georgetown is one of my top choices. I'm wondering if it is too early/unwise to send an letter of interest ... any advice, HoyaDoc?

I'm in the same boat. Complete on 7/27 and starting to worry about the lack of updates. A few of my friends who applied earlier ended up getting an invite about a week after their completion email.

SAME. I don't like this.

Same here complete 7/27. Hopefully well hear something this week....

Has anyone submitted his or her secondary and immediately received a rejection? Or is it still a little early for that tactic? To my understanding, in years past Gtown has been notorious for that...👎

Any insights for any of these questions?

After inquiring about overnight hosts for interviews, it seems that I should not rely on staying with a student for the interview. Does anybody have any input for places to stay near the Gtown campus? I'm a thrifty man, so paying less to travel a little farther would be just fine.

What makes it seem unreliable? I was just about to inquire about staying with a student host...

They said this in an email.

"Unfortunately, we are just coming back to school to start classes this coming week and thus the student hosting program is still on hiatus. We are the former M2 coordinators and are planning to hand over the responsibilities to new M1 students within the first two weeks of classes. Once we assemble lists of students hosts from the first and second year classes, and find new coordinators, they should be in contact with you regarding potential hosting arrangements.

Unfortunately, due to the high demand for student hosts early in the year, we cannot guarantee you will be successfully placed for your interview. I would recommend coming up with alternative plans in the event that we cannot find you a student host.

Thank you very much for your patience."

If anyone familiar with DC traffic/area can comment, that would be great!

GU says to plan on being there until 4 PM at the latest. However, my train back leaves Union Station at 5:05 PM. I'll of course be traveling very light and do not mind taking a cab. Can I realistically make it?

I was thrilled when I figured out (finally!) that I can take a train from my town in NJ to my interview here. Where to park my car was causing me undue stress, but now I can be free from an automobile for that day!! Woohoo!

Haha, traffic in DC is awful. However, I think you could make Union Station by 5pm if you let the admissions office staff know about your situation. I would not plan to take a cab all the way from Georgetown to Union Station, as city traffic at that time will be a veritable crapstorm. Your best bet will be to take a cab or bus to the nearest metro station (Foggy Bottom/GWU), then take the Red Line directly in to Union Station. This option will be both faster and cheaper.
