Super excited about the opportunity to attend HUCM, I've done a ton of research on the school and it's history and am ready knock this interview out and hopefully gain acceptance! Thanks everyone for all the love and we may be future classmates soon! I live in Florida and would like to know if Howard offers any kind of roommate matching service for students. I know there is no housing but would they have some sort of list or system students can use to find other students looking for roommates?

I don't understand why all medical school haven't figured a way to provide housing...I mean, it is just such an issue to move for four years and then have to pack up and leave... For younger students this may be easy... but, some students have families, and or partners. And signing a lease for a year- especially that last year of med. school... is such a financial strain if you have to break it, and move to your residency in a new state.

It's more like a dorm-living situation though so most students opt to move into apartments off-campus. When you are accepted, there is a facebook group that is used for looking for compatible roommates, housing opportunities, etc.

Hi everyone! I just joined SDN! To be honest I used to avoid reading threads and joining this network because I was afraid I would doubt my ability. But knowing there are others out there with the same passion of going to Medicine like me helps and I want to reach out to everyone and say GOOOOOD LUCK! A big part of this journey is BELIEVING in yourself. Let's believe in ourselves and others and keep on pursuing this dream of getting into medical school.

I handed in my secondary in the first week of November; really hoping for an interview (I'm sure you guys can relate lol). I'm thinking we should keep on e-mailing and preferably visiting the campus (if you are in DC) to show our continued interest. If you really want to go here, you should fight for it! Let's do this guys 🙂

PS: I went to the open house the first Friday of November and it was great. The admission staff starts out with introducing themselves and there is always room for question and answers. They take you around the Medical School building, including the classroom, cadaver lab etc. It's a good idea to go if you guys are thinking about it. The next one would be in December and if anyone wants to visit I'm down to go again!

I think it is too early to call it quits!

Howard does not send out any rejection letters before March (end of the admission cycle), therefore we all have a fair shot until then. They are the one school I know of that actually go through each and every application (if you meet their minimum requirements, MCAT 22+ and GPA is flexible I believe). This is also the one reason I want to go to HUCM because every candidate is evaluated on individual basis and given a fair shot at an interview or acceptance.

I remember Ms. Jones saying at the open house that last year they accepted one student one day before classes began for the M1's. Point is, don't give up hope right now, be patient and maybe send a letter of continued interest by January?

I haven't received an interview here so far. The interviews for Howard will be until April. My advise is don't give up and stay strong. I hope that each of us can share that good news. I hope that we will become part of the class at Howard University College of Medicine 🙂

I think I will send a LOI to them. I just finished my UTMB interview yesterday and I love it. It feels like a excellent fit for my career goals, but it sucks that I am an OOSer. I was accepted to my state school MD program on Wednesday, so at least I have a place the Class of 2017.

Would you guys recommend calling the office. I sent them my secondary and money order in the mail on October 29th and I still haven't received a confirmation email about my application becoming complete. Any thoughts?
