I received the email regarding my application under consideration the day after my interview. Is it a bad sign??

No, that just means all your stuff is in and you've been added to the pile for the next committee meeting. I went "under consideration" right away too. My applicant portal still lists that as the status even after acceptance, actually. So now just try to relax and wait it out. Good luck!

i just got a second interview invite for next wednesday! what does that mean? Did that happen to anyone else?

Does anyone know when IU will send out its first acceptances? Do they start on October 15th?

The way they explained it on interview day was that admissions committee meetings are held once a month on the 15th and notifications go out right after that. However, they said that not all applications in the pile will get voted on in that meeting, so it is possible to interview in September/October and not hear back until spring. Basically no news is good news, so if you haven't been rejected, you're still being considered.

Oh and I had read that in previous years acceptances came in thick envelopes and rejections in thin ones. This is no longer true. I pulled a very thin envelope out of my mailbox and about had a heart attack, but upon opening it, the letter started with "Congratulations!" They now email all the additional forms to you, so if you pull a thin envelope don't worry, just open it. 🙂

Do you guys think they mail acceptances/rejections to the preferred or permanent address on AMCAS?

I'm out of Indiana right now and was curious.

No, I meant WHICH address do they send it to? Preferred or permanent?

It came to my permanent

I just called the admissions office and asked them this question, and the lady who answered the phone seemed very confident that decision letters are sent to the PREFERRED address on AMCAS. Not sure why yours came to your permanent, but preferred address would be better for me anyways (hence the name "preferred" haha).

I called and made a special request for mine to be delivered to my preferred and my acceptance still went to my permanent... although the letter head was addressed to my preferred!

Hmm..that's interesting. I guess it may come to my permanent then. But if it's an acceptance then I will be thrilled either way!

does it say second interview, or is it a glitch/mistake? hard to imagine what couldn't be clarified over the phone if it really is a second interview -- maybe they lost the notes on your first?

Reading through this thread is making me so anxious! I got the confirmation IU recieved my application on 9/26 and am waiting for a secondary packet right now... I am IS so fingers crossed for an inteview at least!

I got an email around 9/12 inviting me for an interview and asking for supplementary materials. I see on the status page that they received my materials but no interview date is set yet. for people who have interview dates, how long did you have to wait before getting an interview time?

I got my email 9/14. I believe earlier in this thread people said around a month, but that their status changed like a week before they got the email with the interview date and time. Hopefully we get them this week or next!

How long did it take everyone to get the email for supp materials and an interview invite (from the date you applied/they confirmed your application)?

Does IUSM have a portal site where we can check the status of our app?

Their portal site is: admissions.iusm.iu.edu. Above the boxes for username and password, you can change the page to enter your AAMC info.

Hey Guys, OOS from illinois here. I just got my II/secondary today. I was complete for AMCAS around August 22nd. 3.81 cum, 37R.

Interviewing here on weds! Sooooo excited! I will be driving in from NY tomorrow night and staying at the hotel on campus. I am honored to be presented with this opportunity. Anyone else interviewing on weds too?

Yep, I'll be there!

Does anyone know if we can store luggage at the admissions office?

Flyers, if you rent a room in the hotel, you can have the luggage stored in the counter

Just got my Secondary/II. 3.79, 31 Q, OOS app. Was feeling really good till I read earlier in the thread about how tough they were on OOS candidates. No research background, but 80 hours shadowing and CNA job. Feeling like it's gonna be a waste of very limited money to do the app./interview so I can be swept under the rug. 🙁

But an II is definitely a positive thing, even if IU is pretty tough on them. Will you have to buy a plane ticket or can you drive in?

You're welcome. But call to double check before you book the room

Does anyone know how many people are accepted from out of state? MSAR shows the amount that matriculate, but not the amount accepted...

Should be able to drive in, so that will keep the cost down. But gas+ hotel + time off work makes any Interview a significant investment of money I already don't have. Of course I'll eat whatever the cost is, I just hate the idea that I'll be doing so with little chance of actually being accepted.

2-part question:

1) Do you guys think IU will mail out the first batch of acceptances (non-EDP) on the 15th?
I'm just trying to figure out when I may get one (wishful thinking 🙂). I am OOS (~200 miles) right now, so I am wondering around when I can expect to get it?

2) Does anyone know if IU sends out post-interview rejections this early? i.e. if I get a letter in October, will it automatically be an acceptance?
Or maybe IU just wait-lists all in-staters who haven't gotten acceptances post-interview???

Btw I walked around the campus tonight. It is so beautiful! I love it!

Staying at a nice bed and breakfast in Indianapolis. Very excited for my interview tomorrow!

MSTP II

Anyone else out there going to interview or have interviewed for the MSTP program? Their website regarding the MSTP is a little vague I had a few questions before booking my flight etc. I'll PM my questions to anyone that has knowledge about the program if possible 😀

1) I would be willing to bet yes, although I believe that last year some people's letters were sent a couple of days after the 15th for the first batch. So if your letter is going out in the first batch, I would say it could be at least a week or so after the 15th for you to get it where you all (but this is all just conjecture)

2) More conjecture, but personally I doubt it. IU is notorious for holding onto applications for months and months before waitlisting or rejecting applications. The committee meets once a month, accepts a bunch of applicants and sends out letters. From what I understand, rejections from IU this early are possible but also not super common.

...So hopefully, expect a letter several days after the 15th with good news 🙂

I checked, and last year the 15th occurred over the weekend, so that's why it took until like the 17th for people to start getting acceptance letters.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the admissions office won't give decisions over the phone, but does anyone know if they can tell us if a decision has been made? (Just not what that decision is.)

Good to know, and yeah I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some good news!! :xf:

I called and asked them because I was considering canceling a few other interviews right after 10/15 if I were accepted, and they said they would not tell me over the phone.

Just had my interview today. Great experience, the actual interview was pretty low stress. All in all, today left me with a good feeling about the school. The only thing that left a bad taste in my mouth was the fact that many of the students I talked to did not seem to think as highly of the school, or be as happy, as I thought they would have.

Are you talking about the MS1 or MS2s at Indy? Or other students interviewing the same day?

If it was current med students, mind sharing if there was anything in particular they didn't seem to like about IU?

I was talking about the current med students. There wasn't one that I talked to that was extremely happy about the school. All were very so-so about it, some mentioning how depressed they were there first two years.I mean don't take it the wrong way, this was a VERY VERY small sample size and a lot may depend on the person but it just didn't leave me with a great feeling.

However I still loved the school and it still remains one of my top choices. I think I would be extremely happy here.

That wasn't my experience at all. All the med students we met seemed really happy about the school.

MS1 here, it doesn't surprise me that people were so so about med school. I don't think that has to do with IUSM in particular, just med school in general. I've only had a couple months of experience but so far it's been a lot of work. I've talked to some MS2's and MS3's, and they say you just get busier. My friends in other med schools say the same thing,

With that being said, I am very happy with IUSM. I've made some great friends and we enjoy studying together, which I think is key. My only gripe so far would be the organization. I'll get random emails saying I have to go to some mandatory meeting in a couple hours, when I've already made plans. It gets annoying when things like that happen.

is anyone else having trouble logging on to check the status of your application? i interviewed 9/5, went on yesterday to check and it says "please contact admissions office." called and the secretary said they are having tech issues and she would get back to me but hasn't yet... i know committee doesn't meet until the 15th but still wanted to see status!

I can login just fine. Have you been able to log on before? I don't think that the committee necessarily meets on the 15th of the month, just that decisions usually go out on the 15th (please correct me if I'm wrong). In the past people have gotten acceptance a day or two after the 15th and their letters were mailed on the 15th, I don't think the committee would meet on the 15h and mail out letters the same day. Also, I don't believe that once you're accepted you will be able to see online, I think you have to wait for the letter. All you will see is "Under Consideration."
